Tekken 5

I already have it, it's pretty cool. As of right now, the only additional character I know of for sure that will be on console release is Dr. B.

Total of 30 playable characters. We have an arcade board at our house we use, fully fleshed with card readers and all, pretty pimp stuff. My roommates are REALLY big on Tekken, they go to tourneys, etc. Right now one of them is in Chicago, ready to go to Dallas to get into the National Tournament.

Anywho, I play it lots, it's awesome, VERY much worth the wait past T4...(cuz T4 sucked).

Isn't that what all fighting games do? They add one or two (supposingly) new characters and tweek the game a bit (Not many are bold enough to totally scrap ideas from the previous game)...

Eh... One of the reasons why I don't buy them I guess...

Still looks better than 4 and heard it played better than it also... (I agree that 4 was bland)

i have Tekken 4, and its the best fighting game ive played on ps2. Tekken 5 will be a title i will get, however i will wait for it to go platinum

For anyone who simply "casually" plays a Tekken game, then 5 will just be a prettier version of 4, with a few new characters and moves.

The animation is MUCH better in Tekken 5 though.

For those who play HARDCORE, lol, and I mean with low parrys, reversals, break throws, etc...this game is good and bad.

Walls are in the game, however wall techs and wall pushes are not...which sucks.

I dunno, I'll give it a go but I can't see it even comparing to Soul Cal 2 and VF4 evo XD.

Tekken 4 was GOD AWFUL.

I find the pace of VF4 to be a little too slow for my taste, and SC2 was good, but weapon based fighters aren't my thing.

T4 was horrible, more or less because they added so many new elements it broke the system.

You add in walls, elevation, the ability to push people into walls (which stuns them). Then they took away some throws, and made it harder for you to pull them off, made Jin unGODLY broken (come on now, he was retarded in T4). There were just a lot of flaws.

As far as T5 going to the TTT T3 style, it's give and take. Basically here's what they did.

Keep walls, get rid of elevation/wall push. Side walking is still possible, however it requires a double tap and hold, so it's not as simple and abusable. Not to mention it's MUCH more balanced (with the exception of STEVE, the GAYEST Tekken character ever....).

Yea, Tekken 4 was quite dissapointing compared to the previous Tekkens. The controls felt clumsy and it was hard for me to chain combos together. The other Tekken 3 was alot easier for me to play because it simply was! :O

I am looking forward to Tekken 5 and cannot wait to get my hands on it! Just watching the video of it from Official Playstation Magazine makes it more exciting! :O

I also reserved the Tekken 5 Bundle. Did anyone else reserved it?

You should register and check out videos from Tekkenzaibatsu.com. They are significantly better than anything you could have seen on OPM

I have been to that site for the last month and it sure is a good Tekken site! :O I don't want to register because usually things I am looking for such as character strategy and such are posted already. I have looked at some of the opening videos and combo videos.

I plan trying to get good with Asuka Kazama just because I think her fighting style looks good from watching the videos and because she is beautiful! :O

What about everyone else?

Wow, thanks for the link. Upon reading this website I realized that Tekken 5 does have a lot of new material & I was wrong by assuming that it didn't. Tekken 4 just had a lot of renamed characters with the same moves. I guess new fighting games can seem original if you skip a few versions.

i agree with the anti tekken 4 sentiment here. tekken 3 was a top game and i spent many many hours playing it. it had smooth realistic animation and a whole slew of moves and fighting styles to master. tekken tag was equally as good, more moves, the tag mode if you like it (one of the very few mainstream fighting games to employ such a feature) and oh my god the amount of characters was awesome, especially if you follow the storyline as well, all the characters and their relationships were portrayed if you pair the right or wrong players together

tekken 4 seemed weak in comparison. fewer players, i felt with more limiting fighting style, and relying on more graphics than gameplay to get people to buy it after they've seen it in the arcades. any move towards the predecessors is a step forward in my book

i have tekken 3 and tekken tag, my girlfriend has tekken 4 so that saved me buying it :p i'll be buying tekken 5 when it's half new price, i'm keen but not enough to spend a hundred bucks the day it comes out like i will with gt4

It seems that Tekken 5 will include Tekken 1,2 and 3 aswell.Rumors were that only Tekken 1 would be included but it seems that all three PS-One games will be included with Tekken 5.You pretty much get 4 games for the price of 1.How cool is that.

That seems to be popular speculation as of right now, hopefully it's true, I'd love to play T1 again.

From what i heard and found about the $99.99 Bundle pack that I will be getting...:O It will include the followings:

Tekken 1
Tekken 2
Tekken 3
Tekken 4
Tekken 5
Tekken Tag
Hori Tekken Arcade Stick
Tekken 5 Art Book

:O

To me, spending $99.99 for all of those is a REALLY INCREDIBLE DEAL!

Here is a quote from TekkenZaibatsu about the collector's edition:

Namco Hometek Inc. announced today it has partnered with Hori Inc. to offer a limited edition Tekken 5 premium bundle set to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the fighting franchise. The bundle will retail for $99.99 and include a copy of the game, a Hori customized joystick and a special collectors DVD 6 disc storage case for all games in the Tekken franchise. Developed exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, both Tekken 5 and its limited edition premium bundle will be available in stores first quarter 2005.

“With so many peripherals in existence, we are committed at Hori to delivering the most unique and highest quality products available for gamers,” said Ray Hiyoshi at Hori Inc. “Our newest peripheral was designed for Tekken 5 and those who love the best fighting game franchise of all time.”

The Tekken 5 premium bundle set will be available at a limited quantity of 20,000 at specialty retailers beginning on the launch day of the software. As part of the pre-order program at Electronics Boutique, GameStop and Game Crazy, players will receive a collector’s edition art book that features the art of Tekken spanning the 10 year history of the franchise. The book is available while supplies last and delivered upon purchase of the game.

Talk about bang for your buck!! Thats a lot of stuff for $ 99.99... And a Arcade stick!! 👍

Now only if GT4 came with a thick manual (a la Japan ver.) and the DFP bundle for a price like that... 💡

I just read as I'm sure most of you have, that the regular edition of Tekken 5 will have the arcade versions of Tekken 1-3. though personally I would rather have the home versions as they had lots of unlockables, this is still a sweet deal. I'm debating whether or not I'll wait for this game to be a greatest hits title. 50 bucks is a little pricey for me, and I'm already planning to spend that much on GT4 cause I don't have the patience to wait for that game.

Why? You will get almost everything from all the old Tekkens in Tekken 5. BTW, the Tekken 5 release date is 2-22-05. It's on the same day as GT4.

I glad that they went back tekken 3 style. I didn't like tekken4 at all. It is good to see they're bringing back a lot of the old characters like Bruce Irvin (my favorite) , Ganryu and the old man. If I wasn't getting GT4 I would be all over this game

I think one of us have to be wrong, because from what I got, buying Tekken 5 will only give you Tekken 5. Buying the bundle package will give you everything I stated. The bundle is meant to celebrate Tekken's I believe 10TH ANNIVERSARY! :O

Look at these two links:

Bundle: http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=B281233A

Single: http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=B281117A

Bundle includes everything I said. Aslong as you pre-order, you get the art book too on any order.

The release date is on 2-24-05 as Namco officially stated recently.

I have the game.

T5 reg. comes with "arcade history" which is just a subsection that includes tekken 1-3 arcade ports.

Bundle only has stick as a difference.

Yea, you are right! :guilty: :O I have just read the Gamesopt detail on it again. 👍 But based from Gamestop site, the stick is not the only difference in the package. The game will come in a special DVD case which should't be much of a big deal...unless it really does look fancy! :O

By the way, how did you get yours already? My Gamestop says they won't get it until tommorow.

Could those who have the game please describe any gameplay changes, if there are any? they wanted to improve it, ok iw won't be like Virtua Figther 4V, but perhaps the success of button smashing was eliminated or at least reduced?do you like grafics and stages? thanks

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I have not really played alot of the Tekken series but Tekken 4 I have. Tekken 5 is simply just BETTER than Tekken 4 in everyway possible. You can check up a forum such as Gamefaqs, and you can find people constantly talking highly of Tekken 5.

I find that the game is VERY fun as it is quite fast paced and not so "masher-friendly" like Dead or Alive series. The graphics is gorgeous to me, especially the levels! :O I love the moonlight level where there are white tall flowers on the field and you are fighing with the moonlight in the background! :O All I can say is....JUST GET IT! :O

As I have every Tekken I will buy it, seems to be a really great game, I jsut wondered if it can keep up to VF4 Evo since I really enjoy that one.... But on the other hand it's ok if Tekken is a little more arcadish, because that also means more action...

Got mine coming from the US soon (I live in the UK). Should be here next weekend, I hope.
Looking forward to it. I'm not really a big beat-'em up fan but Tekken I like (and Soul Calibur). At least the characters in Tekken are interesting (well some of them...well one of them...maybe ;) )

I´ve read on IGN review that every fighter speaks before/during/after the matches in they´re own language, exept for Xyaoyu and Lei. But a friend of mine that already has the game said that Christie Monteiro speaks in english. I thought she was brazilian since Eddy Gordo is her uncle. Or am I wrong?
