What is the worst wreck you've ever been in? If you can bare the emotions, tell us about it!

I pulled out in front of a pregnant woman with three kids in the car. She hit me doing about 35mph. I felt like I was two inches tall, but no one got hurt, and my car was just a little bit bunged up. I didn't even get a ticket! Then two years later I rear-ended some old woman and she sued me for $90,000! Her car didn't have a scratch on it, and she wasn't hurt. The court probably looked at the resquested money and laughed. Hmm ... that was a little over two years ago. About time for me to screw up my life again ...

i rolled my dads van when driving down a country road. We were driving along hunting and i just kinda veered and just went up and over on the side of the van, it was scary as hell, my dad was like "bob, dont tell your mom" he didnt even ask if i was ok, it was hilarious :)

I was in the passenger's seat in my mate's new car when he reversed into our (partner and I) 2 year old Vectra.

Nothing serious.

The wreck I refer to is the state of his marriage for a couple of weeks after that incident.

Ha ha! Good stories.

A friend of mine hit a deer with his van on his way home one night. He was doing ~75mph on the highway and a deer stopped in front of him. He hit it so hard that it smashed through the front windshield and flipped all the way to the back of his van INSIDE. He didn't know what happened at first, and couldn't find the deer. He walked all the way around the van and couldn't find it, thinking it must have run off. When he looked inside the van to check damage, he noticed blood all the way to the back, and a big splotch on the rear window. The deer was all folded up behind the last seat. It was a 12 or 14 point buck. The cops couldn't believe he was still alive, it missed hitting him by inches.

They asked him if he wanted it, "Fair game", they said. But he gave it to the first officer that showed up because he didn't have enough freezer space to keep that much meat in. And besides, no telling how much glass you'd have to pick out of it.

By the way ... the friend and wife are all happy now, right? It would suck to have your car cause someone elses breakup. (:

Nah nah - they're fine. It's just one of those relationships where there are a lot of sparks. Very political, good entertainment, especially when I play golf with him and he makes the comment 'mate, if it wasn't for sex, they'd be stacked five high at the tip...'

The worst wreck I've been in happened about 3 weeks ago. Me & my friend were headed across the Isle of Palms connector bridge in his '98 GMC Sanoma(5spd, extremely bald back right tire) going about 70 in the rain. Because of his bald tire, when he gave it just a lil' too much gas the tires would start to spin. Anyways, we were just drivin' along when his dumbass punches the gas so the tires would spin & the back end would get a lil' sideways, and apparently he's not as good of a driver as he thought because he wasn't able to keep the ass-end of the truck under control, and we lost it...did a spin a little bit over 180 degrees while skidding into the on-comming traffic lane, smashed the bed of the truck into the concrete wall, and completed another 180 degree spin. Didn't do too much damage, just destroyed the bed, and bent part of the frame, smashed in the rear window, etc.

The only other "wreck" I've been in was about 8 or 9 days ago, and was with the same friend in his truck(which was fixed before this "wreck"). Same truck, same bald tire, AND there was a kid in the back of the truck, and by the back I mean the bed. We were driving on this narrow twisty road that had sand all over it. We were probably doing about 65(speed limit was about 45) when he loses the back end again. The back right spun 90 degrees to the right, then 180 degrees to the left, then 90 degrees back to the right(this happened with our friend Aaron sitting in the bed of the truck). We didn't drive off the road, and there wasn't any damage or anything, but we were all scared $h1tless.

I was more scared for Aaron than anyone else. I decided that was the last time I ever ride with that kid in his Sanoma again because I don't care to die anytime soon...:nervous:

Just incase you don't already hate that kid enough from those 2 stories, here's one to top it off. Him & my friend Sean(both good friends, both underaged) DROVE over to my house today in his truck, and they were both highly intoxicated... I've never been so mad before in my life. Not only were they stupid enough to drive drunk & risk their own lives, but they also put a LOT of other people's lives at risk too. Instead of taking his keys, or turnin' 'em in, I just locked his keys in his truck and told him to call his dad when he was ready to leave...

Oh yeah, I've never came close to causing or being in a wreck when I'm driving.

That's a freaking GREAT idea! I'll have to start doing that ... I guess it would help to know that they actually have a spare set of keys. That way no one has to pay for a locksmith. But even if you did, it would be 'cheaper' than your friend killing someone on the road.

Never been in a wreck... (knocking on wood) but I swear I have a target on the side of my truck I can't see.

The worst near miss was late one night I was driving home from work, highway was empty, I was coming up on a light and there was a semi in the left turn lane, with a car in the oppisite left to lane. Because the semi was in the left turn lane oppisite to me, this lady coudn't see... well she decided to risk it and go for it... coming out right in front of me, I slamed on my brakes, turned to the left to go around her, I spun, a 360 I swear my back bumper came with in inches of hitting her. After the spin, I put my truck in 1st, and drove out of the intersection. That, was pretty scary...

August 1997- me, my mom and my brother got into our then '89 MPV, heading for a bank, and then to my dad's work. We were on a 2 lane, country type road, that leads to a 4 lane main road. We had to turn left, and across the first 2 lanes. The light turns green, we start going, then we see a white matter coming towards us on the left side. My mom slammed the brakes(we were only going like 3 mph) and the guy hit us in the middle of the front bumper. We spun around about 180 degrees, facing the way we would have been going if we turned right. My mom starts yelling a few words out the window. The guy worked for a TV repair place, and was driving an '80s Econoline full size van. After he hit us, he turned into a gas station that was at the corner, hopping a curb, and then got out, looked at the damage on his van, scratched his head like he was wondering how that dent got there, and finally strolled over to our van. He asked us if we were alright, and we said we don't know(if you say this when you're in a wreck, it makes the person scared and realizing that it was a bad wreck). There was a cop at the gas station when we got hit, but didn't see us until the guy pulled on the lot. We were taken to the hospital(my mom had whiplash, me and my brother had bruises from the seat belts)and released in several hours.

Our MPV was towed to my dad's shop, and we looked at it several days later. The front was twisted to the right, frame was too bent to repair, but from the front of the doors to the back was in mint condition. It later went to a junkyard, never seen by us again.

This story does have a happy ending though. The next night after the accident, we needed another van, and found a '92 MPV with only 43,000 miles on it. Mint condition, and we bought it at a good price. We got the guy fired from the TV repair place, after he said that he went thought the red.

We still have the MPV, now with 82,000 miles and 2 trips to Florida and Ohio, and we will have it for a long time to come.

Forgot to mention, January of that year, my dad was on his way to work, and got hit at the same intersection, same situation:Red light runner. My dad was OK, but he was in his RX-7 GSL-SE, and fixed it back up to mint. Had to sell it several years ago due to the new emissions testing.

Good idea - had a house-mate used to do the same thing, not only would he drive hammered but would also take huge risks, to the point the rest of our group of friends wouldn't ride with him.

Wish I'd thought of locking his keys in his car - I threw them on the roof once at a party and heard him drive off ten minutes later....

Still, he got his come-uppance - put his girlfriend's Corolla into a tree whilst having a little nap on the way home from a part a couple of months ago. They got ideal injuries - not disabling, but enough to make them think about exactly where their lives were going. Car was a write-off.

This is the same guy who has 5 seat-belt infringements....

I was in a Honda Accord 2000 model and flew into the rear of a govenment car. It was in the wet. The car in front of me hit another car. I got the car fixed for free by some company I know. Luckily the airbags didnt blow out. There was also a nasty go-kart racing wreck I was in, lets not talk about it though.

Christmas 1999: I was driving 1997 Subaru Impreza Turbo on a country road, going round a left hander, came upon some water streams running across the road. Back end stepped out into oncoming lane. I would have gathered it all up were it not for the cement truck coming the other way

Heavy offside rear damage and a majorly bent shell led to instant writeoff. I was hurt, but not badly: the truck impacted about 8 inches behind the driver's seat  . The driver of the truck was shaken but unhurt.

After a lengthy delay, I was prosecuted for careless driving and lost my license for 6 months - I have it back now. I'm not at all proud of this, and it still hurts for the error I made in going too fast. I loved that car and still miss it, but to this day I count and thank my lucky stars for it being a truck coming the other way, and not some little car with some kid's parents in it on December 13th.

What makes me mad is that I was going a bit too fast, and look what happened. And then you see people doing 50mph on the wrong side of the road outside a school, or driving drunk or on drugs. It really gets me upset.

But I'm so glad that when I had a big one, nobody other than me was hurt.

My Worst wreck happened in 1998 when i was 18. I was getting a ride with my friend to a EB store (video game store). Any ways when we where leaving the shoping center he tried to pulled out on to the center turning lane, but we never made it. He ended up pulling in front of a Black ford F350 doing about 45 - 50 mph. Thats all i remember before the impact. I woke up in the car thinking i was dreaming all this. I could only manage to open up one of my eyes. The other was swollen shut. I turned my head to look at my friend and i saw that he was awake so i asked him "did we wreck?" and he said yes. Not too funny at the time. Next thing i know a firefighter opened my door and asked me how i was doing. I said "okay i think." He and another guy pulled me out slowly and placed me in the ambulance. In the ambulance they guys started asking me all sorts of questions like do i know what happend, and where where we going, and where did i live, and who i was. It tured out when i got the hospital that i had a major head trauma. But i didnt know it at the time. It was nothing you could see from the outside, other than my big swolen eye. 4 days later in the hospital i was improving and was asked to sit up in my bed. I did and a few sec later i had pink stuff driping from my nose. The took some test on it and found out it was (i forgot the term they used) brain fluid. They said that it was the fluid that found in the spine and in the brain. And that crap was dripping out of my nose. In the x rays and other crap (i think mri's ) they found i had 2 pockets of air in my head and 2 fractures in my skull near my nasle cavity. They gave me 2 days to see if it would heal on its own. Man i tell you i was praying for it to heal. If it were not to heal than they would 1 give me a spinal tap (from what i heard those are really painful) and 2 if 1 didnt work they would have to put a plate in my head. I was not to thrilled about that. But any ways the 2 days came and what do you know it healed on its own. 2 days later i was released from the hospital and was headed for home.

I had to do alot of follow up visits for the next 8 months to make sure everything was healing okay. Everything did and well here i am today. :D

I ended up getting about $15,000 from my friends insurace company pluse $25,000 to pay off my hospital stay.

Well my friend is not my friend anymore and thats okay with me cause he was an ass anyways. :D The only injury he got was a sprained neck and some glass in his eyes and ears.

Till this day i still dont know what hit me. My friends arm might have. Or i might have hit the dashboard. Or i could have hit my window. I dont know. But all i know is that im here still and i know i can take a beating like that bounc back up and keep on ticking. :D :D

there's my story. ;)

It's pathetic and sad, but here goes...

I was tired one night after work, ran a red light and broadsided a 1988 fully restored Harley Davidson. Sad, but that's not all of it.

The guy had just finished 2 years of work on it...and was driving it for the first time.

He's lucky he had a crash bar, or I would have easily removed his left leg. He went over the hood and crushed the windshield with his back. He landed about 20 feet from my car, and the bike was about 50 feet away, leaking gas from a 10" gash in the tank.

I still get a twisting in my gut when I think about it.

Dooooooooooooooood. That is so sad. How is the guy? And did you offer to help him re-rebuild the bike?

He was off work for like a year and a half. He sued (duh) and settled with my insurance company. He didn't exactly want to talk to me after that. (not that I blame him)

My worst wreck ever happened when I was 5. There was snow outside, and I was off of school(Kindergarden) and me and my brother went down stairs to ride our bikes(my basement is concrete, and has a wide open area(about 20" by 60" or so)) and my mom had carpet samples, so me and my brother stacked them up and would 'ramp' over them. I was on a 12" bike, my brother on a bigger bike. I was going pretty fast(how fast can you go in your basement?)and hit the ramp. My left foot slipped off the pedal(pedals were smooth, and didn't have any spikes like they do now)and went into the front spokes. When I landed(this only took a half a sec or so)the wheel turned, but my leg acted like a parking brake, but it broke. I was on the floor screaming, my mom rushed down the stairs, and picked me up and put me on the couch, and she got dressed and took me and my brother to the hospital.(If she called 911, my brother wouldn't have been able to go, and would be home alone).

I was in the hospital for a week, in traction. Instead of getting a cast, I got an External Fixitor, which had 2 bars, one on each side of the break, connected with a thingy that could be adjusted by the doc. I had that on for 6 monthes, and my pants had to be cut for it.

But I was back riding my bike soon after the thingy was removed.

be careful everyone with your driving over the holidays.....one of my high-school friends was killed in a head-on collision on the highway yesterday (freezing-rain) .......just want everyone to be careful and drive sober b/c it's not a good time of year to lose a life

Agreed.

JESUS WEESUS!!

It looks like you guys have been really ****ed up.

Anyway, the closest i ever came to getting the crap blown out of me was about 3 months ago.

We were in the second left turn lane. {Isn't it something that I was the closest to the wreck} This guy who had to be drunk comes swervin from a right lane at about 80mph severely scrapes the rear left tire{he almost flipped the d@*m car} Thank god he didn't smash head-on into us.

THIS TEACHES A VERY IMPORTANT LESSON FOLKS: DONT DRINK 2 40OUNCERS AND THEN TRY TO IMITATE YOUR LOCAL F686!!!!!!

I've been karting since my 8th and last year (when I turned 14) I made the leap from 100cc to 125cc kart (automatic, must be 16 for shifters in belgium and holland). My dad bought me a Rotax Max 125cc and a TM 125cc, the rotax for the Junior Max Challenge and the TM (birel) for the nationals...at my 3rd or 4th training day with a 125cc some guy in his 42hp shifter missed his brake point ending up (stupity) in jamming his brakes, sliding at 60-65km/h (about 25mph?) towards me hitting me in the back--->his front spoiler flew off by the impact which allowed his kart to launch using my karts rear as a ramp right into my neck. my stomach had a major collision with my steering wheel (wrecking my chronometer :( ) and despite the protective gear some of my ribs were fractured. We both ended up skidding through the sandbox right into a security fence/net, the collison with that gave me a near-whiplash (thank you neckbrace!). My kart was kind of bashed-up (twisted exhaust, frames twisted in some places). My dad and mechanic had brought me to the hospital..the usual: x-rays, check check check...I ended up with some sort of belt around my upperbody (couldn't participate in any contest for 2 months). The guy left his insurance number and personal data at the circuits administrative office. His insurance company paid for everything and he felt really bad about what happened i've been told. Never seen the guy again though :P

Man- I did a couple of senior events as a stand-in for a guy (that Rotax donk is a beauty, isn't it?). I never had a bad one, saw a couple (very good at avoiding them - I can predict the future) - but that accident sounds like a shocker

Trust you're over it!

Ever heard the sound of the Rotax? Lovely...it has 6hp less than my TM engine (rotax=29hp TM=35hp[excellent powervalve]) but it sounds much better! Nice and sharp...(it absolutely screams at a top of 13500rpm)the TM has a deeper noise and after a day rotax I sometimes race the TM on my birel frame (normally keep it on a Tecno) and it sounds as if I got engine troubles in comparison to the rotax :)

The worst crash i was ever involved in was on the Indian Nations Turnpike in southeastern Oklahoma. I was overtaking a semi truck in the mist and rain in late November. A 90 pound doe (female deer) darted out of the mist and I hit her hard. She flipped up over the hood of my Ford Ranger pickup and punched her head through the windshield. The front of my truck was wrapped around the front of the engine. Scared the hell out of me. I barely had a chance to find the brake pedal befroe I hit her. The damage amounted to $5500.
