Got my new plate in and I must say I like it. No frufru Texas cowboy picture or some retarded Texas desert range background like on the regular plate. Just TEXAS, KAISER and the Texas Flag. :D

As soon as I get the Camaro drivable the plate gets transferred.

==============================================

Old post for referrence.

The link: http://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdotrts/SpecialPlateOrderServlet

So...only 6 digits allowed with no spaces. So my dream of "TOPGEAR" is lost. I don't mind paying the $40 per year cost but not when its a max of 6 digits. That takes most of my wanted stuff and throws it out the window. For now I only have 2 choices...

I'm leaning towards "KAISER" or "305TBI" unless someone else has another suggestion.

P.S. This is for the Camaro. The van will maintain the current plate.

*edit*
Pic of the Camaro for those who have forgotten.

Actually, as of 2009, they are allowing 7 letters. They're not getting cheap though. But, normally, you are also allowed 6 letters and a space.

So why is the website not updated? 7 letters is more than enough for TOPGEAR. :D

Wow, we get 7 and we can also choose between college, support our troops or habitat plates for custom plates here.

I like "2SLOW4U" or what I plan on doing in the future "ILGFDSA". It's just 7 random letters but it's always fun to confuse people trying to guess what it means.

I wouldn't go with 305TBI, unless it is a built sleeper. 170hp in a 3300lbs car is nothing to brag about, believe me, when I get a job, that is the first thing I'm going to fix on my '89 RS. By the way is yours a 5-speed or awfulmatic? P.S. your's looks mint compared to mine.

Edit: Best tag around here that I seen was 4U2NVME of-course that is 7 digits, but we are lucky.

It will eventually be a sleeper--so to speak--but mine isn't exactly slow. My car is completely gutted as in the only thing in it right now is a dash and driver's seat, and I've done a few mods that have added over 30bhp and 50tq. And there is nothing wrong with my 700R4 automatic. It does the job. :D I'm about to get another 305 dropped in that has even more upgrades already on it so the numbers will be higher. I love the 305 and I expect it to do what I want it to do. Make a good noise and get me where I need to go while having fun. Its not a dragcar so I don't care about having 400bhp. My next project car will be the speed demon. 👍

Are "TOPGEAR" plates the latest fad?

That'd be sweet. Mainly because I was "ahead of the curve."

Still, only six characters? That's weird... I was thinking today that it would be cool to have a plate that said "OTATIME," but I don't think many people would get it. Especially on my car.

Mine's pretty much stock, other than some cosmetics, like IROC-Z wheels and Z-28 side skirts (not my doing). With a .308 rearend, 5th gear is useless under 65mph. It is just too weak for me. Granted, it is the fastest car I have though. Compared to my (now totaled) '86 Corolla GT-S it is great to have "some" torque on demand, though, plus a cool V8 sound.

I would like around 400hp, and the 305 just won't cut it. Another problem is the T-5 can't handle that much, so I'd like to use a T-56, all of which I don't have money for. So all probability, I will just leave it stock, but I hope not.

Apparently it's already taken in Washington so we can't have two of them running around in Michigan. Then I'd have to put some blue tape across the top and bottom of the plates and run some red lights for ya...

Now I just need to find whatever tool thinks that plate makes their car faster in these parts and snag it... :D

Apparently (according to Rev) sometime this year or early next year the digit count will increase to 7--but for the life of me I cannot find exactly WHEN. I need my 7 digits!

Have you called the DMV? My buddies have told me that it was supposed to go into effect Jan. 1 even claims he's already been approved for MPOWERD for his car.

This is interesting since I never thought about personalizing my own license plate. How much does it cost and how long does it take?
Depends on what you want & the license plate. They start at $40 a year, and can up to $295 depending on the plate.

Don't sound too bad, but I am sure I can't use anything offensive or have profanity in it.

Building another 305? Why not go 350? Cheap to build, should basically bolt right in...and get rid of that TBI, ugh!

Dad's 85 T/A has a TPI 305 and it's a slouch even compared to the stock 5.0HO that was in my Tbird...350 is definitely the way to go, imo. Car looks nice, though 👍

Please don't start with the "ditch the 305 and go with a 350". :D Just trust me you don't want to open that can of worms. And the TBI will be lost as soon as I can afford the TPI system. Getting my car running is my first priority. And it can most cheaply be done with the 305 TBI...which is what mine had stock.

Plus I can get 280-320bhp and 300-350tq form a 305 no problem--it just costs money. All I want is 0-60mph in the 5 second range and a good noise--the rest I could care less about. I'd estimate since I do 0-60mph in 6.5s as is with my old 305 TBI setup I should be able to break the 5 second range pretty easily. Thx for the comment. :D

Over here we are only allowed 6 letters but you can still have fun with them eg TPGEAR or COPB8R

I got my personalized license plate today and there is some good news and some bad news.

The good news! KAISER was available so I went with that. Right now my van will rock the plate until my Camaro gets up and running again.

The bad news... The new 7 digit plate not only has NOT gone into effect but WILL NOT. Texas decided it was not needed. This information was coming straight from the Tax Accessor's office themselves. So there will not be a 7th digit this year. It was supposed to take effect Jan. 1st--but obviously did not.
