The Gaming Libertines Community Tournament

The Gaming Libertines (TGL) are a close knit community based around a Twitch channel (TheGamingLibertines) which specialises in Racing game content, prominently featuring Forza Motorsport 6 and DiRT Rally. The channel has plenty of friendly viewers and clean racers so we figured why not try to host a tournament to reward the viewers? Our first tournament was ran last month with many drivers participating in a knockout style tournament, it brought several close and clean races and was deemed a success. This month we are trying to expand the tournament to bring in more racers so we ask for your help.

Tournament Format

This tournament is run over a single day, so no long term commitments are required. Just ensure that you will be available on May 1st.

The tournament will be run with the first stage containing several groups of 4 drivers each, within this stage each group will run one race and the top 2 will advance to the next stage. For those who failed to finish in the top 2 of their group there is a second chance (following some unlucky results last tournament). You will be drawn in to a separate bracket which will contain another smaller opportunity to advance to the next stage.

The tournament continues in the same style until the semi-finals are reached where each group will run 2 races, with the advancing drivers being determined based on points accumulated in their 2 races.

The final will see the top 2 drivers from each semi-final face off over 3 races, again being scored by the points they accumulate.

All races will be streamed live on Twitch with commentary from 2 top Forza players, so even if you're unable to participate you can still watch the action. If you do decide to visit the stream come and say hi in the chat, our community are always happy to welcome new viewers.

Cars and Tracks

These are yet to be decided, however the tournament is centered around classes A, S, R, and P. All cars will be run in stock form with no tuning allowed, this will be enforced by using the lobby options to force stock upgrades and tuning.

We try to avoid using the shorter tracks so in most (not all) cases lap times will be over 1 minute long.

I will update this section as soon as the selections have been confirmed.

Schedule

We aim for the tournament to start on Sunday May 1st at 15:00 GMT (11:00 EST) and the tournament should hopefully last no longer than 4 hours in total, although it could push slightly longer depending on how long is spent getting drivers in to the lobby.

To sign up to this tournament please make a post in this thread with your Xbox Live Gamertag and Twitch username (optional).

You will be messaged through Xbox Live to confirm that you're still interested in participating, also functioning as a reminder, and your response gives us another chance to adjust the brackets if necessary.

Please make sure you're able to make it on the day before signing up. If you sign up and realise you can no longer take part it would be a huge help if you could post here or send me a message just saying you can't make it. This will allow us to adjust the brackets without having to wait until race day only to find that people aren't turning up.

We would also greatly appreciate it if you were to follow us on Twitch, this will also make it easier to find the channel when the tournament is running.

Thank you for your interest .

I'll just note here where it's more visible (and clear) that this isn't strictly a GTP-only tournament, we already have another 30 or so racers signed up from our Twitch community. I just thought it would be great to see some of the GTP crowd taking part as well.

So even if there are only a handful of entries here the event will still take place! :)

Just a quick update.

Sign ups will be accepted up until 12:00 (GMT) on Friday the 29th (this Friday coming) so we have ample time to sort out the brackets.

Sign me up! LickwidApex

I just about managed to fit you in, so welcome. :) I'm pretty sure we've raced online before at some point, I definitely recognise your gamertag at least.

Due to the large amount of sign ups we have had to change the first round to accommodate 5 drivers in each group with 1 group of 6. The top 3 from each group will progress to the next round, with any losers going to a separate qualifying and race. Our aim in this "loser bracket" is to give everyone a fair chance where the result comes down to their driving. Qualifying will be run over 2 laps with collisions off and staggered starts where the aim is to set the fastest lap (try to set a clean first lap just in case the 2nd goes wrong ;)). After qualifying the grid will be sorted by fastest lap, and collisions remain off, that way no one gets cheated out of a place in the next round because they get caught up in another drivers crash.

Tournament brackets are currently being sorted along with the car/track combos. I will post a link to the spreadsheet when they're complete.

Sign ups are now closed, however if anyone really wants to enter let me know and I'll see what I can do, no promises though :D.

@RacerPaul and @R6Goblin the brackets and car/track combos for the first few rounds are up now, we still have to figure out the last couple of rounds. They can be found in this Google Spreadsheet.

Also depending on the quality of the racing we may decide to make the race within the loser bracket have collisions on, but anyone wrecking will be disqualified immediately.

Tournament has started, is being streamed live on Twitch.
Hey this is pretty cool, I'm watching it. They just gave me a shout out for following their twitch channel. :)

Edit: I ended up watching almost that whole stream, was pretty fun to watch. Some really clean racing, and a lot of fast guys too. That Sch1wo guy is really fast.
It was a little long, and I think they switched camera views a little too much, but overall it was very well done.

Great job @Im_Lukas at hosting, I'm sure that was a lot of work sending invites and keeping track of everything. How come you didn't race?

Glad you enjoyed it. :)

We planned for it to not last so long but as some people didn't tell us beforehand that they wouldn't be there it meant we had to find and invite replacement drivers, we were actually getting quite frustrated with the number of people who didn't message us at all. The switching cameras is something I can mention to them, but that problem is made worse by the loading screen every time you switch player :ouch:.

The inviting was so frustrating during the first 2 rounds with short races because I had to give them sufficient time to join but also find potential replacements for the people who didn't show, but I was using our spreadsheet so I knew who needed inviting and then if someone didn't turn up there is usually someone in the chat who will want to join. At one point I was going to send you a message asking you if you wanted to be a replacement driver, but there were already people in the chat requesting it .

I was originally going to drive as a replacement driver for someone but having mostly played PCars recently my driving would cause more harm than good, and then it would mean no one is being invited during the race so it would slow things down even more. I'll probably drive again next time, but maybe see if one of the other guys can help me with inviting people at least during the first few rounds.

@R6Goblin Sorry the rounds were taking so long, but we were let down by a silly amount of people :yuck: You did really well though and IIRC you were eventually knocked out when all of the very fast drivers met in one lobby , but you were still keeping quite close to them so congrats and thanks for showing up 👍.

I will have a talk with the hosts and see how we can structure the tournament differently, or any other things we can try out for next time.

Hey guys, nice to hear you liked it. :) You're definitely right that it took too long. It was 2 hours longer than last time. :D I think we are going to delete the loserbracket next time. It was pretty senseless, because some people who qualified just left the tourney. Hindsight is easier than foresight. ;) Looking forward to seeing you again next time. If you have any suggestions, let us know. :gtpflag:
