It doesnt spacificly have to be the leading car.Originally posted by risingson77
Generally, you have to be right on the leading car.

Thats why you lap them... Fastest Ive gone draffting in a ROAD car is the 450km/h in the RGT which is bout 280mph for you yanks and alike. If you dont understand the concept of drafting think about high diving, if the water is broken you go into the water much more smoothly and it doesnt hurt as much, well the same thing happens with air oh it also works when you sailing as long as ur not getting dirty wind from the boat infront of you.Originally posted by 2005McLarenF1
Ive never drafted... I dont think its possible when everyone is behind you.

They can manage around 250km/h at the end of the straight at eastern creek IIRC. halfway along, travelling less than 200km/h they got enough speed through drafting to overtake the car in front of them and gain a car length before the air resistance slowed them down to 'race pace'. These are parity cars, so there aren't any other factors to think about, the drafting effect was very, very obvious.
Seeing this happen time and time again, I think that the drafting effect isn't overdone and could be achieved at lower speeds than deplicted. Just guessing from the aero dynamics that the aussie cars lack in comparison to the LM type GT3 cars (such as GT1, etc.) I reckon that the drafting effect should be greater in GT3 than on the glorified gokarts.
