Hi everyone, this is kind of a rant and complaint about the cloi, especially as people are using it on 550pp suzuka RWD with racing tyres on the back. I myself am using a NSX 02 with S3 tyres and am enjoying tinkering with the set up to get a more confidant and direct feel from the car (its a very tail happy car out of the box).
Anyway I've got my lap times down to 2:18:3xx and I'm quite happy about that. But the problem is when I'm racing there it is usually against a bunch of people in the Clio with racing tyres on the back. And while they are not as fast in the straights they are supreme around the corners, due to the car, and are always close enough to slipstream and then side-ram or rear-ram me off the road.
One french guy rammed into the back of me and he came off the worst for it (even though he was in a Clio) and then he cought up again and side-rammed me aff the road. After the race he sent me a message calling me an idiot because I didn't get out of his way.
So I explained to him the concept of the skill of overtaking and defending from overtaking (basic racing 101). He rather unsurprisingly disagreed and gave some colourful abuse.
Is anyone else finding the Clio is, to an extent, cholking the event, or is it I'm just too slow?
Any thoughts?

NSX and Clio are pretty closely matched on lap times... though the Clio is a bit easier to drive.

If both drivers are clean, it can be a really good battle between the 2... once the NSX gets ahead it's quite difficult to pass!

This has happened to me many times. When you got that faster car,no need to be polite. Some top speed GTP_s no exeption.Suzukas special, put your nose inside and make that space. That track is to narrow for using different lines through corners.Thats why Rtires for every car,no need to feel weight transfers affect your cars behaving.Sim racing, not.

Are you saying the Clio and NSX are close on times with the Clio using R1 tyres on back and the NSX using S3 all round?
I've had races with people who were using the Clio with S3 tyres all round and that is a much more even and balanced competition.

As far as I'm concerned the Clio is a glitch car and needs to be fixed by PD.....but that is a subjective and biased view because the car is really boring to drive and very irritating to drive against. lol

To the OP, every event has a "golden" car and it is ALWAYS the first choice of the punters or dirty racers.... or the racers that have the WIN AT ANY COST attitude...

What are you saying here?? I dont understand...

yeah, this is true, I mean its always going to be true but my problem is the Clio is so far ahead of most other cars in performance for some reason. Its really killing the game for me. (boo hoo, I hear you cry lol).

But seriously, Its annoying that these people can get away with this BS.
Going to be racing tonight, anyone know what times you GTP guys will be racing on suzuka 550pp? You guys are pretty much the only guys who race like I do, fair.

Do you mean my english is that bad,or you havent seen that happened in gtp races.First one might be tru, second one absolutely exist. So many aces in here. That Rtires might be to much, but punting is there.

Yes... for me the Clio is faster (mid 2:14's) than the NSX (mid 2:15's), but with the draft there's no problems keeping up with the Clio - although you lose in T1, you catch it back up between hairpin and spoon and spoon and 130r.

in 700pp there seems to be no clear golden car, which is good. Hopefully we'll get that back someday 👍

I completely agree, I tend to always choose the NSX simply because it's a lot of fun & quite difficult to get it on the limit without a mistake for 5 laps. I haven't had much of a go in the Clio on this race but when I did I very quickly set a time 1 second faster than I could in the NSX, it's not just this race either the Clio is the fastest on quite a few others aswell.

Thats true but they are still very close, hardly any difference really but like you say they can just carry so much more speed into the corners, it's not right, and people say Gran Turismo just favors Japanese cars!

Im a NSX user as well, much prefer it, managed a 2:17.xx.

thats a great time! i feel i'm on the brink of dropping into the 2:17's, cant wait :) someone above said the nsx is capable of 2:15's. i dont think i'l be getting anywhere near that sort of time lol

Fix the Clio and another car takes its place. There will always be a popular or best car combination with a track or PP value.
This happens even in real life, if a certain car or chassis works the best, everyone starts using it.

For example, in F1, the engine to have nowadays is the Mercedes, so naturally we see lots of teams start using it.

Its as much a part of racing as chequered flags and champagne.

Go back a year on this forum and you will see everyone used to complain about a different car being unfair and used all the time - the Lotus Elise/Tuned. They fixed that (as it wasn't calculating its PP correctly) and now we have this.

Thats why MotoGP is superior to F1, lol.

but seriously (on topic) I had 3-4 friends all in Clio's at 550pp Suzuka and it is literally endless fun. 2 wide through the S's, several passes for the lead every lap, never know who is going to win... what else can you desire in a racing game?

That kind of racing is still possible in the Lotus Evora (2'16s), the Ferrari 512BB (2'16s) and the 111Rs (2'14s/2'15s) at 550PP and they still remain competitive in the right hands. We have had so many custom events for this category that it shows the wide variety of viable vehicles.

To be fair it's only drivers of the calibre of RudiRaser, Timppaq, Hyperspeed, Stotty, Mad etc who can whip the Clios into low 14s so when I drove the 512 with its mega straightline advantage on S3s, it was hard for Clios to get past and stay past.

All the best
Maz

Timo has a 2:14.9 in the NSX at 550pp's...

I'd love to see some footage of these laps, It'll help me figure out where I'm going wrong. Seriously, when I'm doing my low 2'18's I feel like I'm right on the limit. I know a few corners where I'm loosing time but I can't see how I could possibly shave 3 seconds off my time.....feeling a little hopeless now lol.

I am another one who finds the Clio "too good" overall. A good driver with a good setup and this car is nigh untouchable.

But I agree with Maz, the 512BB, the NSX and the Evora are superb cars, almost capable of matching the Clio, but they require much harder concentration levels to drive on the limit. The Clio is almost the "GTR" of the mid-engined brigade in that average drivers can jump in with a half-hashed setup and run laps easily in the 2'18-2'17 time bracket.

In real life however, many journalists have reported the Clio V6 being a very twitchy and difficult car to drive properly, simply because the wheelbase is too short for tackling long corners and is always prone to snap oversteer. The COG is a lot higher than purpose-built MR cars like the Evora and NSX which makes the Clio such a lairy drive.

I don't know why the Renault is such a piece of cake in GT, I think PD needs to modify the handling parameters to make it more realistic, or they need to award the car 10PP more than it has at the moment as a stock car.

;)

no offence guys but in real life the clio v6 is a good car! everyone says "oh its a french car" etc etc but the matter of face is the renaultsport cars are good. fair enough I can see where you are coming from an NSX vs Clio V6 but in real life the only real difference is the top end of the NSX is 20mph or so faster than the clio. the clio is setup to handle well and thats what renaultsports do!

just read the above statement - this is true if you push it to far in real life they do "snap" but in the game if you push it to hard with tc etc off even with R tyres it still snaps..
