Do you think you would play in a GTP online Madden Tournament?

Ok I got an idea guys, and I wanted to run it by everyone to see the response I got before I went ahead and started something. :)

So with me being in college now, and not having a stressful time cosuming job  any longer I wanted to get back involved with the online racing. (Stick with me) I went today to check it all out, and I felt like a lost sole. Almost reborn, entering the GTP world all over again. So once I looked into all the rules and finally understood what everyone was talking about I decided I will probably enter the racing again this week. 👍 But thats just what started my mind working. (Still with me? Good!)

So as I am getting ready for my 1:00pm class, I had an idea. 💡 Being that I love football so much, and already run the greatest football pool ever, (humor me) I came up with the idea of a Madden GTP Playoff.

Now it would run very similar to the Online Racing. I would pick two teams with in the game, the game settings, and what type of goal to aim for. Each person playing would then pm me their scores, and/or stats and I would post the results. Also with the online gaming already available with this game, we could have face to face tourments to truely decide the champion of GTP. The possiblities are so great for this compitition.

The version of the game is up to you guys. I know 2005 was just released but many of us might not have it yet. Or have been told to wait for Christmas. So I think 2004 would be best until Jan. Unless I am proved wrong and everyone already has 2005, then we would use that.

Now I will need instruction on which forum this gaming challenge should be posted in, ie: football forum, all other gaming forum. So if a super mod would like to direct me, I would greatly appreciate it.

So give me some feed back guys. Would you play in such a tourment with other GTPers? 👍

Are you talking about Fantasy Football with Madden, or are you talking about a "near-line" football league? As in, online in the same sense that we do online racing now where we compete offline and then share our results?

Because Madden has online capability. Slap in the network adaptor and you're good to go.

Am I missing something?

Well I was trying to make the compition a little more personal. I guess I am refering to a "near-line" type of play where most games would be againist the computer and the results would then be posted here. I know with the network adapter you can play online as I mentioned, but its so impersonal. You just playing someone you don't know, and you just playing to win.

With the "near-line" play we can set up different rules, and have different compititions. Most passing yards, most rushing yards, etc...

I think so, I'm still trying to figure it out.

Do you mean you would set a challenge? Like "first to score" or "how many points" or something? Then people would send their times in?

*EDIT - You answered already. 👍

Well, surely it's possible to find players online to play against. You could just build a list of everyone who is interested and have your own league play.

But I also understand the other benefits of offline play against the computer. The best being no lag and you don't have to wait for someone else to be online. Basically why GT4 will not be online.

I think it's interesting and could work, I just don't think you'll have a very large turnout. Madden is a big selling game, though, nearly as large as GT3. Surely there are forums for it as well, and I bet they're already doing similar competitions to what you're looking for with a larger user base.

Exactly! We could do all types of stuff. I could set up a hugely sucky team on offense againist a hugely powerful defense and who ever gets the most points wins. All types of things.

Then if we got enough players, we could also organize a true tournment online. Just arrange the date and time for everyone to show up.

As I am sure you are correct, but who really cares about them. This is the community I want to be apart of, and this is the community I would like to play againist. If it doesn't work out here first, then maybe I'll move on and look for other things, but again that would almost be impersonal. Here I know people, and its a tight group of members, making the compition more fun.

so basically, you pick a couple teams and the weather. and then we all go for the best stats? or would you pick a certain stat we are going for (rush yards, FG's, TD's...) or all together(idk how that would work). (if you did all stats all combined, you would have to figure out how many pass yards would be equal to a rush yard. they can't be even because some people aren't very good with passing and may only end up with 20 pass yards a game. then someone good with passing could end up with about 500. then there are going to be some people good all around that can end up with about 250 pass and rush yards a game.(give me the ravens and i can run all day long, give me the eagles and i can pass all day long))

idk think it through more, online online would probably work best, most people SHOULD have it by now

well, i don't have '05, yet, but i think the 'near-line' thing sounds cool. then you don't have to wait around and schedule games, you could just look up the weekly challenge and play it whenever you had the time. Sounds cool to me.

I feel compelled to quantify the term "nearl-line". I heard it used by several of my friends who have spent time working in large computer rooms, data centers, dealing with very large systems.

"Online" would generally mean directly connected, or instant access to a system or device. A hard drive is 'online' and the computer has direct access to it. A webserver is 'online' and other computer can connect directly to it. A database server is 'online' and would be available for connections.

"Offline" would generally mean something that requires human interaction to bring it 'online'. A compact disk or other optical media that is stored on a shelf. A backup tape that needs to be manually loaded to recover data.

"Nearline" would be something that is 'offline' but can be loaded quickly and autonomously. Like a CD or DVD changer / jukebox. Or a tape library that holds multiple backup tapes and a system that loads the appropriate tape when data is requested. You don't have to load the device yourself, but you don't have instant access. You have to wait for it to prepair for your request before it can answer you.

So I may have missused the term in this thread, slightly, but it seems to fit. Perhaps we can come up with a more descriptive and accurate term to use for this kind of "online gaming". We could coin a new term and be famous for it!

the #1 American Football simulation! i call it simulation, because it's just too good to be called just a game. :D
Thanks. I just serached on google and realezed what it is :D 👍

A top selling franchise for EA, as well. Extreeeeeeemely popular. So much so I believe it is only beaten by Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, and the Mario games.

Grand Theft Auto 👍
Gran Turismo 👍
Mario

It's funny because it's true (I asume)

This is the beauty of my idea. The goal is to go after only one stat. Waether it be passing yards, rushing yards, or just most points. See the thing is to pick teams and matches no one really wants to play, or is fimilar with. That way it comes down to someone skill, and not how good, or long they have been using the same team and or plays. Its the same as setting up a race in GT3. The person orangizing the race usually picks the car, tells you what type of settings to use, and then tellls you the track in which to race. Being that the majority of the people haven't used that exact set-up, the race becomes more of a challenge.

I'll give an example of the set-up for a compitition: (from Madden '04)

First the goal of the comp: MOST PASSING YARDS!

Then the game play settings:
Quater Length: 5 min.
Skill Level: Pro
Injuries: On
Pre-Existing Injuries: Off
Game Fatigue: On
Madden Challenge: Off
Random Weather: Off
Accelerater Clock: On
All other settings are default.
Chose any Audibles you would like.

Then to the play on option and the two teams.
You being AWAY as the Cardinals. No Historic Teams!
Computer is at Home as: The Historic 96 Patriots!
Playbooks are to reamain defaults.

Then play the game, and report your final passing yards to me through PM.

Thats it. Each week, all type of settings could be changed.

This was just an example. Hope it helps you to understand what I mean.

yeah i see. so your just going to give us a team that noone likes against a team that is amazing then see how we do, it's worth a try. it would be fun to try a game going for the most time of possession, my best is 15:08 of 20:00

Yeah match ups no one really plays, plus match ups most of us do play. We wouldn't just do impossible match ups. In games that we are going after most points scored, we would use teams that could easily score points on another team. The possiblities are really endless.
