) and I stumbled upon a brilliant documentary by Sir David Attenborough called 'The Amber Time Machine'... as far as fossil evidence goes, amber fossils (see avatar <---- ) are certainly the most stunning and potentially the most valuable fossils in terms of evolutionary biology, with recent developments in the field yielding DNA extraction from amber-fossilised sloth poo... despite not quite living up to the 'Jurassic Park' expectations of being able to extract 'dino-DNA' from mosquitoes, amber fossils are nonetheless a massive source of direct, physical evidence of the structure, appearance, behaviour and even genetics of extinct species - although limited to species that are prone to being trapped by small gobs of tree resin, there is amber fossil evidence of larger mammalian species in the form of hairs, feathers, feces and even blood...
Quite sound advice though!
