Considering the existing thread was made for the 2013 season and has yet to be updated for 2014, I figured it'd be a good idea making a thread dedicated discussing to the driver/teams for the 2014 season.

So there's Perez, Sutil and DiResta left of the drivers from non-backmarker teams, and only two non-backmarker seats. Someone's going to miss out when the music stops.

You forgot Toro Rosso switching to Renault power(It's ok, everyone forgets they exist, even Dietrich).

It should be a good year, plenty of question marks surrounding the top teams.:D

What does that have to do with driver transfer?

Di Resta will miss out, he's said it himself. It'd be funny if Perez went back to Sauber though, then you'd have two of 2012's most promising drivers return to those teams after a single season away. However, I really hope it is FI that Perez goes to.

The FIA need to try and do something that gets the GP2 champion into F1 the next year, even if it means dumping them in a Marussia or Caterham. They did it with the Ginetta GT champion into the BTCC for a few seasons. The problem for Leimar now is that he isn't allowed to race in GP2 now he's champion.

1 'r' in Toro :)

Realistically I think we can expect Perez in at Force India and Sutil at Sauber. That leaves no place for Di Resta which wouldn't be a terrible shame in my opinion.

Di Resta came in well, and did good last year and at the beginning of this year, but since the circus rolled into Asia, he was terrible. Crashing out in Singapore and Korea like he did. However, it would be interesting to see someone still in their prime switching to Indycar and seeing how they do, especially into a big team like Ganassi.

Good news, hopefully Hulkenberg and Pérez will give the team the results they were looking for... :D

Drivers may chose their own numbers starting in '14.

Really seems pointless though unless the teams have to make them more visible.

From a subsequent Autosport article:

Autosport
The sporting regulations have also been modified to ensure that number visibility is improved.

Drivers will now have to carry the race number not only on the front of the car in a way that must be "clearly visible" but also on their crash helmet for the first time.

Nico Rosberg has apparantly chosen #6 as his first choice, #5 his second and #9 his third.

Sergio Perez's first choice is #11.

In all seriousness, if I was Vettel I would pick #15, the number he had in 2008 and 2009. Building a history for a number would be better than being a chapter in the story of #5 or #27.

I reckon he'll go for #5 though, the number he took his first championship with.

Predictions, anyone?

Vettel - #5 or #15
Button - #12 (first win) or #22 (championship)
Raikkonen - #11? That was Hunt's number in 1976.

If Vettel can't get #1 he'll go for #69 knowing how immature he is.

When was Sirotkin confirmed? I thought they just expressed an interest.
This has been an issue on the 2014 season article on Wikipedia for a while now. Although Sauber have yet to confirm Sirotkin as a driver, they have said that the seat is his if he can get a superlicence, and that they have developed a plan for him to do just that. A lot of the rumours about the Russians pulling out seem to stem from people who think Sirotkin is too young for Formula 1, as if all drivers magically become more competent on their eighteenth birthday.

Yes, because a 4-time champion and a dad-to-be is definitely immature.
