I remember getting a huge run for my money in GT2 and GT3 against the Toyota GT-One, Nissan R390 GT1, and the Mazda 787B, and to this day they are my favorite cars to drive in the GT series. After testing them thoroughly for my GT5 Race Car Project, I realized how fun they are to drive, even compared to all the newer race cars. The 787B has amazing handling, the GT-One has a very fast top speed (255 mph / 410 kmh), and the R390 has some of the best breaks (and very stable breaking too) I have ever used. Toyota GT-One, Nissan R390 GT1, or Mazda 787B, which one is your favorite?

It's a hard choice for me, but I'd have to say... Mazda 787B

Edit:  I love how the poll bar for each car matches the car's color. Epic win. :D

I'd give my left nut (or a 'thank you', whichever is easier) to have a tune for GT5's Toyota GT-One without absolutely horrid understeer. Until then, I'll have to pick the 787B (the Stealth version is godly)

This worked well for me. If you still don't like it, I have a few others to try. :)

Gotta be the R390 for me. The TS020 is obviously the better car, but the R390 looks so much calmer and smoother, like a real supercar turned race car. The Gt-One looks as though its about to kill something.

The 787b isn't as special in my mind, even though it is a legendary car; only rotary to win lemans, only japanese car to win lemans etc. It just never had the desirability of the R390 for me, probably because it looks a little dated and the C9 or 905 are both far superior group C cars to me.

Agreed. If I could own any one car, regardless of price or rarity, it'd be the Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car in the deep blue in the game. Amazing looking car. :D

None compare to one of the most dominant prototypes ever:

Triangular Engine of Awesome!

Can't do much better than that Wankel.

I'm glad you said one of, because the Audi R8 is the most successful Lemans car of all time, not some ugly 962. ;)

And who was Audi racing against? The competition was pretty thin when the R8 came along.

When the 956/962 were racing, Jaguar & MB were still in the game. And the Japanese were joining as well.

In my opinion, you can't really compare them. LMGTPs Vs. A Group C car?

Easy choice for me: the fastest and the only one to win at La Sarthe: the 787B!

The 962 was a beautiful piece for its time. And it was also #1 of it's time.

Audi did run their competition out though too, the game had also changed from when the 962's were running. Money was much easier to obtain back then and the races were much cheaper. Audi had everyone scared to the point that the year the Bentley won the 24 hours was because Audi was told not to run a factory effort that year. Joest Racing and Audi Sport UK actually ran the Bentley team.

The R8 is the new benchmark for sports car racing.

This car did almost the same race distance as last years winner, BACK IN 1990!!!

Amazing car, amazing to drive.

Always liked the Toyota GT1 too though.

787B all the way! That thing showed them how it was done and had the correct engine!

Granted, Audi's competition of Cadillac/Pescarolo was pretty weak, but the 956/962 didn't exactly tear up tough competition either. In fact, there was no competition really, other than Lancia. By the time the factory teams came in 1988, the 962 stopped winning.

Did anyone read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_787B? When i read this forum, It looks to me that almost everybody think that 787B dominated Le Mans. The win of 787B was surprise, because the car was one of the slowest, but had great reliability and fuel economy. Those factors are most important in 24h race, but it's not like 787B dominated in other races.

to me, the three real legendary race cars in GT5 are the XJ13 (even though it never raced), the GT40 MkIV "J-car" and the 330 P4 spyder.

and my choice of those three?

why, the jag of course! it's one of the most beautiful cars of all time, mixing mid-engined agressiveness with D and E-type elegance.

of the three japanese sports cars of the late 90s, however, I'd have to pick the 787B. I never really was a fan of the R390, and while I like the TS020, I just love the rotary brilliance of the 787B.

Personal experience, although I have the 787B & Toyota GT-One in GT5 I have not used them. However I had all 3 in GT4, and only found the GT-One to be of any use (A-Spec) points wise anyway for the Endurance races when I first started points hunting. The others are good cars but the Toyota will always be a bit special to me as it got me through my first 2 24hr endurance races for maximum points.

Can't choose between the 787B and the R390 GT1. Love them both. Still remember playing GT3 (my first GT game), getting the 787B pretty early on in the game as prize car somewhere, after which I used it a lot. I was always trying to win the R390 GT1, since that was the car that won most of the times, it was better than the Toyota, but the Toyota pitted more I think. Racing my 787B the R390 GT1 was my biggest rival, the car I longed for in GT3, just before the release of GT4 I finally won the R390 GT1 and immediately used it to race.:D

In GT4 I have both the 787B and the R390 GT1, but it's a pity the R390 GT1 can't cope with the Group C and LMP1 cars anymore, like it could in GT3. So, it wasn't a good car anymore to use in Group C/LMP1 car races since it was simply too slow. I hope it's a bit faster again in GT5, so it can be used for LMP1/Group C car races.:)

Hard decision, the car I most frequently used in GT3 and the car that I longed for most and tried winning for a long long time. Guess I'd go for the 787B, since I raced most with that one.:) Never really liked the Toyota anyway, doesn't look good enough imho, hehe.

Its actually a Intresting Question you've posed here , simply because Each GT Series has had its Top Car that I've wanted to own and you've named 3 of them .

The GT-One was a Car I lusted after for long time so when I got it in the Earler GT Series , I thought "yer here we go lets have some fun" . Yes it was damm quick , but holy hell did it ever Wheelspin and kill Tyres at a alarming rate . Those Races in the Earlier GT Series where Tyre Wear was on from the Proffesional Races Onwards made life difficult with the GT-One .

The 787B again in Earlier GT Series "Wow what a Engine sound" followed by a while later "God i've got to do a long series of races and listen to that droning racket" often i would turn the TV Volume down when Racing that thing . The Car was almost a Pleasure to Drive then and better on Tyres than the GT-One

The R390 Boy oh boy was I a happy bunny when I finally Won that Car . It seemed more refined than the GT-One , had great handling more or less stock and didn't kill my eardrums with the dreadfull droning Engine Noise of the 787B .

Time moves on though and the 787B in GT5 is my Favourite of the 3 to Drive now , Somehow PD have improved the Engine Noise and to me its the Best Sounding Car in the Game , even at idle .

The Handling is still borderlne psychotic , but thats been calmed down with a decent tune found in the Tuning Forum on here and now its almost a pleasure to drive as long as I remember to be gentle with the Throttle on slower Corner Exits , otherwise it'll still try and swop ends rather quickly .

So in my Personnel Preference . as of now

1) 787B ( I have Both Stealth and Dealer Versions )
2) GT-One ( still a Tyre Monster but a quick one)
3) R390 ( great car but to be honest it feels a bit too tame compared to the other two)

As you havn't included other "OMG" Cars i won't mention any . The 3 you have each merit there own OMG Status in the Game .

OMG Cars = OMG how goddamm fast is thing and the way it goes round corners is amazing .

I too remember these 3 cars giving me a run for my money in previous gt games particuarly on ssr11 endurance race in gt 3(i think)

My favourite has too be the R390, i loved that car, not yet got one in gt5 but got the road going version(think it was a b-spec prize) Will definately be purchasing the race car when i see it in the dealership

I just bought all 3 of these yesterday...in GT4! As well as the R92CP. All black models.

Cost me just shy of 10mil. but bought me hours of fun, testing on Le Sarthe. Should eat up some time while I wait for my PS to be repaired.

For me, my favourite in GT4 is the 787B. The car is just epic.

In GT5, of these three I only have the R92CP, so i'll have to say that one for now. I have to have the 787B though at some point, premium.

I don't have one of the three, but only for looks I would go for the TS020. Simply because it was my favourite car in GT3, my real moneymaker. And also I had the feeling with that car that the TS020 and I where one. The R390 has always been a bit to smooth for me.
Hunting down times at the GTtimes.com board I noticed a tendacy for driver to pick the R390. I seldom did. The TS020 was just amazing for me and the looks simply stunning.
The 787 is an other fine piece of art to me. Probably oe of the rare cars with an engine sound that will give me goosebumps in reallife.
In GT4 the 787 was a smooth and easyride, and also an tremendous moneymaker.

But the real deal for me will be the TS020.
Altough I would pick the Sauber C9 over the Japanese cars anyday 👍
Pure beauty and pure lines.

surely the 787B as it was the first and only japanese car to win a 24h lemans and getting its engine banned from it right after.

I love how the wankels work!

The R8 is the new benchmark for sports car racing.

The bentley was run by a team that designed and run the car the only input from Audi was the engine that the team slighty modified to deal with the closed cockpit layout. The founder of the team died last year
