Ok...now that I have your attention with the ever so clever title,listen up.

Now,Microsoft has named their new generation console the "360".But why the 360?Why?The Xbox has no apparent similarities of a 360* circle.

Well,lets take a look.

The Xbox 360:

A 360 Degree Circle (use any for reference):

Now,upon closer inspection,the only round thing on the 360 is the power button,which has been a focus for some reason of the whole console.Microsoft has really been focusing on it.Maybe it's some type of warp device?Maybe Bill Gate's just needs to learn his shapes?Please discuss this matter,as the Xbox and a normal "360*" circle have no similarities.

*-Note:No I am not insane.-*

or it could be that to the "dumb consumer" given the choice between

Xbox 2 and Ps3 the Ps3 would look to be "newer" and "better"... and since the X box couldn't release "x box 3" without a X box2...just change the format of the name to Xbox 360

:lol:

its because 360 is bigger. heck, anyone could say the gamecube sucks because its smaller than any console around

Or maybe it's because if you put the xbox in a circle it becomes the xbox 360. Get xbox+ circle= xbox circle.
Which in time becomes the Xbox 360. Because when you put it in a circle it becomes a xbox in a circle. Which then becomes the xbox 360. Gates did his algebra there. Quite complicated stuff.

sorry to post another big article, but for those of you that are interested in gaming news and not just the willy wave going on between some members here is a little of the laest news. release today infact 1 hour ago. :)

TOKYO - Forget the video game console — your TV could already have the brains to play those games. A coy Microsoft Chairman
Bill Gates hinted Thursday that his company might license the software underlying its
Xbox gaming machine to a variety of outside companies in a bid to expand the market share for the Xbox machine — a platform that trails the sector's No. 1 Sony PlayStation.

The U.S. software company is considering offering "the basic software" for Xbox, although no decision has been made, Microsoft Japan spokesman Kazushi Okabe said Thursday, confirming the Gates' comments reported in Thursday's editions of Japan's top business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Gates hasn't offered specifics about the kind of software or which companies would be involved. He also hasn't said whether the arrangement will involve manufacturers making products other than game machines, such as digital consumer electronics gadgets that combine PC functions with home appliances.

The arrangements being considered are similar to those that Microsoft has employed in the past by working with other companies, including Japanese electronics makers, to install its Windows operating system in personal computers, Okabe said.

It's unclear whether such gadgets will carry the Xbox brand name or some other name, and whether the software that may become available to outsiders will be Xbox or Xbox 360.

Microsoft plans to start selling its next-generation game machine Xbox 360 later this year while Sony plans to introduce the PlayStation 3 next spring.

The Redmond, Wash.-based firm hopes the head start will cut into Sony's lead in the market, and has been trying to appeal to Japanese consumers by attracting top Japanese designers to create games for Xbox 360.

Sony's
PlayStation 2 controls more than half the world's video game market, while Xbox and Nintendo Co.'s GameCube split the rest.

Ken Kutaragi, who heads Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news).'s video-game unit, has said that the computer chip that powers PlayStation 3 called "cell" will likely be used in other digital audiovisual products from the Japanese electronics maker.

PlayStation 3 will also play the next-generation DVD format that Sony is backing called Blu-ray Disc. Xbox 360 will run the current DVD standard, although Gates says that could be expanded to next-generation versions in the future.

and on topic yes Microsoft decided to call it 360 due to it having 3 in it and as they could call it x-box 3 without having x-box 2 (as said above) they called it 360.

sprite thats spot on, they didn't want people to walk into a shop and see the XB2 next to a PS3, it's all marketing. By calling it the 360 they could seem like they'd caught up that one console lead Sony had by putting out a console with 3 in the title. But will they call the XB3 the XB4?

They'll call it the Flex-Box, "our console offers it's users the ultimate flexibility..... In a box".

No, silly.... it's because it has a new type of disc drive. The disc itself actually stays still while the console revolves around it. Make sure the cat doesn't get too close while it's on, though.

The next Xbox will be the XBOX-SE

...or the sexbox. whichever.

who knows? I'm still confused at why gamecube games were not titled with a ^3

Super Mario^3 (Super Mario Cubed), would that not have been absolutely perfect?

Here's a thought, There is a dance show in U.S. called 'Dance 360' it's been on for almost a year. Guess who's the main sponsor of the show... XBOX!!! winner of the contest in each episode take home 1 xbox and $360 coincidence?

Or is it because they will ship it with the notoriously reliable Thomson cd drive and the 360 is the number of days before it goes pop (ie 5 days after the warranty expires !)

Did you know the 360 had started with 1,500 names, then 5,000, and suddenly came down to 4.

Which were....
Xbox 360
Xbox FS
Xbox HD
Xbox 2

The guys at MS said it was obvious why the Xbox FS wasn't chosen.
Worker at MS, Reid replied, "It was a softball for some profanity."

The 360 won't beat the PS3, the PS3 is more powerful. It's a better system, but the 360's games might be better. So far I've not seen much on either system that has me interested. I'm interested in the possibilities of the PS3 over the 360 though, but theres only really GT5, MGS4 and TDU that I've seen that I'm interested in, 2 are PS3 and TC is the 360.

Well then. let's use some simple equations here

X=X Box 360 Games
P=PS3 Games
B=X box 360 Console
3=Ps3 Console

If a console is only as good as it's game then.... X > P = B > 3
