This is the most fun I've had since I started playing GT5, at least in the seasonals or A-spec.

The original challenge was to see how low you could go on PP to beat the Super GT Nurburg race.

But now I'm switching it around. The challenge is to beat the race with 540PP with the Nismo Z not in the race. It might seem that taking out the fastest car would make the race less fun but it actually makes it more fun because you have a slower car and you have to plan every pass. In most seasonals there is a rabbit and a bunch of other cars that don't matter except to blow by them on the first lap.

In this challenge you will be passing cars every lap. You'll be drafting everybody you can to make up time because you're giving away 100 horsepower.

I can do this consistently, winning by less than a second most of the time. I'm probably a top 20% driver, pretty good, not great.

540PP
Race Hard tires only.
No SRF.
No turbo upgrades.
Xanavi Nismo Z is not in the race.

If you tune the car down to 540PP before you enter the seasonal the Nismo Z should not be there. One of the '08 GT-Rs should be on the pole.

Any car is fine.
Reduce Performance Points by reducing aero, adding weight, or reducing power.
Transmission and suspension tuning OK.

If you want to use my setup here it is:

'06 NSX Super GT

Aero 20/35
Weight stock
Horsepower 370
Transmission 174
Height -5/-5
Spring 13.8/14.8
Damp E 8/8
Damp C 8/8
AR Bars 6/6
Camber 1.2/0.5
Toe 0.10/0.20

And the A.I. "NISMO Z" must start on pole Position ?

I thought he always did. Well if he doesn't then yes the Xanavi Nismo must start up front.

I suggest , no altering of settings except the Power Limiter and no adding of Tuning parts ( Turbos etc).

I'll just say no adding turbos. All other tuning is up to the individual. These are race cars with lots of adjustments. Different drivers will want different settings.

i didn't touch the car, paid 950k for it the raced its ass off! lol

I think this is possible with a 555pp Tomica GTR (415hp 200kg ballast). I ended up 2.5s behind the leader. If I somehow gain just 0.3 second in all previous laps, I could be so close in the end to use the leader's slipstream in the back straight and overtake him.

I think I've done my best. 580PP, 438hp, 134kg of ballast. I won by 0.474 seconds, but just barely took him in the chicane. If I was 0.1 sec further back I wouldn't have been able to outbrake him and once he's in the chicane I'd have zero chance.

I could shave a couple of PP off I'm sure but I'll stand on this.

If you can manage it at 555PP I will definately:bowdown:.

I did it, forgot to post about it, but I used a totally different approach, I used no ballast and I limited the power to 365 or something hp I think.

Ended up a hair ahead of the Nissan. Will post a video if you'd like.

555PP in the Tomica GT-R? I didn't think it' was possible...

I don't require a video for proof but I'd sure like to see it.

I almost lost it at the final chicane because I looked back :scared:

I tried it with the Xanavi GT-R '08 at 555PP. That's the same car as the Tomica with a different paint job. I couldn't get the Nixmo Z to show up. I tried 4 times and it was always the Tomica GT-R on the pole. So I turned up the PP and started the event and there he was. Evidently the Z doesn't show up if your PP is too low.

So I turned it back down to 555 and gave it a go. My laps are 3/4 second slower. The Nismo Z was out of reach. Maybe you had a better setup, but more likely you're just a better driver.

I had to turn it up to 565 and then took me 2 tries to get him. But there is no doubt the '08 GT-R is faster at the same PP than the '03.

But that about the poles was a bit pointless, we can change tires and turbos but obviously have no control over the a.i.

Half of the time it's the Nismo Z coming on pole. When any other car comes on pole, the final time is like 15 seconds slower. Or several perfomance points less to beat the challenge.

Takata Dome 06 at 553pp, just because lol

This thing is fast. I lost 1 second in the last lap yet it still beat the Z by more than a hair. I did some tests taking the car to the lower limit, and I think it can beat it in the 550 mark.

NSXs are great performers in these kind of tracks, though are a bit tougher to drive than the GTRs. Though I have to say the NSX at 553pp had 10hp more than the GTR at 555pp. Big help.

EDIT

Mobil 1 NSX 01 at 545pp

Superior car. Simply as that. It can win it maybe even at 540 or so.

Yes , the NISMO Z is the competition and only if he starts from Pole.

The rest of the lineup are only moving roadblocks

I just decided to give the NSX a go. I picked the Arta '06 because I like the look of it.

Wow. Wow. WOW. SOOOO much faster than the GT-Rs.

I ran almost exactly the same time with 550PP (15 less PP than the GT-R). My 1.2 second gap was only because the Nismo went off course coming out of the chicane.

But I tried 3 times at 545 and I just don't have the skilz.

When I first tried the NSX I was busting off some pretty amazing laps. I even won at 545PP. I was pretty proud of myself until I realized I had on Race Medium tires from the last time I used it. :dunce:

raVer, you've certainly had alot of input here, but I haven't seen your time...

Did it comfortably with the NSX ARTA Super GT '06 - maxed out with RS & then de-tuned to 520PP. Gonna try 510 tonight...

Has to be racing hard. That's the rule in the first post. And no added turbos.

OK. Didn't check. I'll try again...

OK, won by 4.8 sec at 545PP, 1.9 sec at 535PP & 1.2 sec at 530 PP. Didn't go any further...

With the Arta NSX I presume...

With no SRF on race hard tires, with the Nismo Z as the lead car? That would be an interesting replay to see.

I changed up the rules a bit. It's now even more fun. :D

Just beat that by 2.7 seconds, fun race. Used my trusty Honda Mobil 1 NSX '01, setup below:

Aero: 20/45
Ballast: 10/50
Max Speed: 162
Ride Height: -15/-15
Spring Rate: 14.0/15.8
Dampers (Ext): 8/8
Dampers (Com): 8/8
ARB: 6/6
Camber: 1.0/0.5
Toe: 0.0/0.2

Suspension, can't remember but think I only changed ride height from default settings. Car has 366BHP and 540PP.

I'll have another go at lower PP when I can justify doing the race, maxed out for cash and nothing to spend it on. :(

I'd say brilliant challenge. How on earth did you figured out that from 540 pp the competition changes. Oh I was hunting down the leader but he escaped me. No wonder, I slipped over the 540 pp cap -> 541 :D So the Z was back in the race.

It's tons of fun, really, very well spotted!

Threads like this are great because they showcase the way GT5 was meant to be played, and that's with your God given intelligence.

If your skill level far exceeds the AI level, believe me, you can find a vehicle, tune or Performance Point setting (as did the topic creator) to make you work at it.

Good job s2k2k3!

This was my favorite event for a while, but then I discovered the 4 hour nurburg enduro. I'm now having a blast playing cat-and-mouse around the ring with 600PP Amuse GT1 Turbos and Audi R8 LMSs in my various ~500PP cars. :sly:

But this one is still great for a little break, and to make some fast cash. :)
