Jordan - The only other forum I frequent (our soccer teams fanclub forum) recently introduced the "I agree with this post" button...

So instead of me having to postwhore yet another post, just to say I agree, I can click the "Agree" button and my name will be in the little "The Follofing users agree with this post" box below the actual post.. See illustrations..

And apparently Flerbizky agrees with this post - so he clicks it :

The "#€%&" agree button" link removes the "Agreement" again in case you clicked it in error...

Hmm, i like this idea. Like you said, it stops the pointless "I agree" posts.

Like this one :D

Just one suggestion:

If there's an "I agree", shouldn't there be an "I disagree"?

Possibly ;-)

Yes and no - The "Album Nomination" thread just made me think I'd suggest it. I know a lot will disagree since it doesn't drive the postcount up - but I could care less about my postcount..

And I'd like to subtract my nomination btw... The more I listen to Rosenrot, the more I think it stinks, so I'm back to Reise Reise again...

[Edit:] And come to think of it - I don't think there should be a "I Disagree" button... Usually - if you disagree with a post you take the time to explain why you disagree. And in some cases, flame the hell out of the poster

A Disagree button would be like a "You're Wrong" post with no further explanation...

That would be a really well used button on these forums. Wouldn't go to waste.

Jordan... We call for you!!

I think that LoudMusic actually suggested this a while ago. From memory, Jordan said he'd look at putting it in the next GTP.

It's not hard to code.

Are you suggesting that I should've used the search button ? :)

I agree!

There should also be a disagree button, so people won't feel the need to butt in every time they see a topic they don't like... (like that 40-something page topic in the GT4 subsection... in which 1/3 of the posts are mere "I HATE *****s" posts).

Does the list of agree-ers sometimes get quite big? I mean, if there was large lists of names at the bottom of several posts on the same page, doesn't it start to look quite untidy?

Anyway, I like the concept though.... you could extend it to other options as well, like a scroll down thing, like "What did you think of this post? - Agree, Disagree, Funny, Not Funny, Worthwhile, Pointless" - the possibilities are endless - but it would still be a question of how cluttered it would make the forum look I think....

Personally, I think it looks untidy. If Jordan can find a way of making it look tidy, then it's up to him.

Maybe it could be a list you click on. ie. "14 users agreed/disagreed with this post" Then you click on it and up comes the list!

Hmm, but that almost seems pointless in having the list there in the first place, as not many people are going to go out of their way to see who's agreed with each post.

Then maybe a limit on how many names are displayed, then when the number of people who agreed goes over the limit, it shows the rest of the people who agreed as the list, like a "Click to see the other users who argeed to this post" button.

That's a good idea, but I like the Red vs. Blue website's method better:

As you post, you gain mod-points. You can then use the points to either mod somebody's post as cool, agree, etc (positive mods), or mod them down for being n00bs. You can also set a preference to not view posts that are below a certain mod level.

EDIT: People with higher amounts of positive mods gain karma on the site (kind of like the way you level up in an RPG). With more karma comes more privlidges, plus bragging rights. ;)

And people would just spam to get their points up.

I don’t like this idea. I really don’t think it would add to the discussion at all. I mean “I agree” posts don’t either, but still… Anyway, there’d probably just as many pointless “I agree” posts from people who just want to get their post-count up, or just don’t know it’s there.

Besides that, it looks cluttered…

I Disagree with the addition of this "feature".
If a user wanted to agree with a post he should state why he agreed with the post, not just say he agrees. A "feature" like this just seams to detract from the already awsomeness of gtplanet.net/forum, putting it in just makes the forums look tacky.

So you'd rather have 6 posts saying "I agree because you're awesome" instead of a small window with the names of the 6 who agrees ?... Plus the thread don't get all tangled up at post 48 because someone replies saying they agree with post 15......

I think the idea is good, if it is applied in an organized and clean way. If it's going to be all messy, then I wouldn't like it.

Give me three examples. Or even two.

I like this idea. It lets other members (would be especially helpful to new members) know how informative, helpful, or flat out stupid another members posts have been.

I think it could help a member change how he posts also. If he/she is getting alot of negative feedback they would get the hint that their posts aren't very helpful and try to be a better poster.

Of course this might need to be disabled in "Off-Topic". Very heated discussions have been known to take place there.

The idea sounds cool, but I'm fine with whatever I have now, which is just this...not bad, if I don't say so myself.

Exactly.
Show Me One Thread Like That.
