Audi RS6 Avant Best At Frankfurt?
Topgear.com
No surprise, this one: rumours, spy shots and videos of the Audi RS6 were appearing all over the interweb for months before we found out all the juicy details about the uber-estate last week.

But this is the first time we've seen it in the metal and, thankfully, it's no disappointment. The designers in Audi's RS division have always been the masters of understated muscle, and the RS6 proudly maintains the tradition of Q-car stealth with just enough clues to hint at the power beneath.

That means that the RS6 looks big and imposing without being ostentatious. It's a cliché that people who know what it is will know what it is (if you see what we mean), but it's also true.

Just in case you missed our news story, here's what you need to know. Under the bonnet there's a twin-turbo version of the S6's 5.2-litre V10, which produces an astonishing 572bhp.

That's good for a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph, though we'd guess that with the limiter off the RS6 could go a fair bit quicker.

Stopping shouldn't be a problem, either: those brakes are proper monsters and look quite at home under the RS6's flared 'arches and 20-inch wheels.

So while the Ferrari 430 Scuderia might be the car that the kids will flock too (when the public get let into Frankfurt, that is - it's strictly media-ville at the moment, dahling), it's the RS6 that's looking like the Car in Show for the grown-ups.

Well, the grown-ups and Tom Ford, that is - our man on the show floor has already declared the RS6 the best thing in Frankfurt. Read his blog and tell him if he's right.

Audi A4 Avant spied out on test

Sharing the sharp looks of the saloon, the next generation A4 estate has sleek and sporty styling to take on the BMW 3-Series Touring. Larger dimensions all round will make the newcomer more practical, but designers won’t sacrifice the smooth sloping roofline.
Set to go on sale across Europe next summer, the load-lugger will be available with Audi’s full petrol and diesel engine range.
Like the saloon, the estate will have a new chassis to go with its fresh look. All models get a longer bonnet and extended wheelbase.
When the new four-door A4 goes on sale at the end of the year it will be available with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system, but basic models will feed power to the front wheels. Expect similar specifications for the estate.

Thanks for those Venari!+rep 👍, I loved the second one it was a very clever idea of them:tup:

There’s no doubt about it… Auto Express’s spies have scored a five-star scoop! This is the new Audi Q5, which will go on sale here late next year.

The mid-sized SUV will get the latest twin-clutch S tronic automated manual box. And a new system called Drive Select tailors settings of the engine, transmission, steering and adaptive suspension depending on the mode selected via the Multi Media Interface (MMI).
The Q5 will also benefit from Audi’s latest Bluetec engine technology. The firm’s 2.0-litre TDI uses common-rail fuel injection to give 204bhp, while a special neutralising system in the exhaust cuts harmful gas emissions.
Conventional FSI petrol and TDI diesel versions of the car are expected, too. And while all models get four-wheel drive, high-spec variants will feature a newly developed quattro system designed to offer saloon car handling.
Inside, the Q5 will be a strict five-seater, although durable stowage features similar to those on the Land Rover Freelander boost practicality.
Insiders have hinted the Q5 could eventually form the basis of a hybrid model, and is likely to be followed by a smaller SUV called the Q3.

It reminds me of that Chevrolet Captiva.

It just does.....:scared:

well when the captiva was first revealed on this forum everyone was noting how chevy ripped off the design of the audi q7, so it5s no wonder the Q5 will bear a resemblance cause its a baby Q7.

The all-new Audi A4 saloon doesn't hit the UK showrooms till March – but Auto Express has already driven it!
Is it going to be a hat-trick for Audi? Following hot on the heels of the stunning R8 supercar and smart A5 coupé, the new A4 hits the UK in March. But will it be good enough to beat BMW’s 3-Series and the latest Mercedes C-Class?

The saloon shares underpinnings with the A5, and its trademark grille is flanked by flush-fitting headlamps inspired by the coupé’s. Smart details include slimline side indicator repeat*ers in the door mirrors and intricately detailed light clusters all-round.
The string of distinctive LED day*time running lamps on our car make a real impression on other road users, although they don’t come as part of the standard package. If you want them, you’ll have to pay £775 for the optional Xenon headlight kit.

And the A4 has grown. The new model is 117mm longer and 55mm wider than its predecessor, while the wheelbase has increased by 160mm to improve weight distribution.
As with the outside, the interior is a lesson in understated luxury. Its classy materials, logical layout and solid build quality more than match those of riv*als. Our mid-range SE car comes with three-zone air-con, a leather-rimmed multi*function steering wheel and alu*minium detailing as standard.

Audi’s wonderfully intuitive MMI interface, which operates all the car’s major set*tings, features in the A4 for the first time. Its combination of col*our screen, rotary control and separate buttons makes other manufacturers’ systems seem needlessly complicated.

There’s plenty of legroom in the back, while the boot has a spacious 480-litre capacity. And by folding the rear seats, you can boost the load vol*ume to an impressive 962 litres.

Three petrol engines will be avail*able when the model is launched next year: a pair of 1.8-litre turbos and a 3.2-litre V6. Diesel options include 2.0, 2.7 and 3.0-litre TDI power*plants, but we tried the mid-range petrol – the 1.8-litre turbo delivers 158bhp.

It provides decent pace and covers 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds. That tells only half of the story, though, as this model’s greatest asset is the linear power delivery. Peak torque of 250Nm comes in from as low as 1,500rpm, while fuel economy of 39.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 169g/km are com*petitive. Only the uninspiring engine note lets the side down.

Yet even that is hushed at cruising speeds, where the supple suspension does a fine job of absorbing bumps. On twisty routes, the A4 maintains its composure with good body control and tidy handling. Its precise steering helps, even if the manual gearchange can become notchy if you rush the lever. Further up the spec range, buy*ers get an array of hi-tech gizmos. With Audi Drive Select, the steering, engine and suspension settings can be adjusted at the touch of a button. Dynamic Steering alters the bias to improve stability, aid agility and even help apply corrective steering inputs.

Final UK specifications have yet to be confirmed but, even without such gadgetry, the new A4 is a solid and keenly priced compact executive car.

We're looking at the A4 real hard to be our next car when it hits the states. I LOVE the design, in and out.

Nice:tup:, I agree, it is a well designed car, I have to say I love the agressive look of the front end, some people have criticised the A4 though for looking too much like the A5,why?...is that a bad thing?

cheers

Tommi:)

If you clicked on this thread expecting to hear the awesome news that Audi is about to enter into Formula One, then you're about to be disappointed.

Sorry.

Because Audi isn't going into F1.

Or at least, last night the man from Audi told me it wasn't going to happen when I was bending his ear about his company's motorsport connections. I was a bit tiddled and so got very excited at the prospect of an Audi F1 car.

It would be good wouldn't it?

This image here was made by Australian designer Kim Stapleton with some dark art computer magic. So they're in no way official, but they certainly give you something to think about - if you want to find out more about the images themselves, follow this link

What a shame, can you imagine how cool it would be to see an Audi Driver like Mattias Ekström or Tom Kristensen racing wheel to wheel with champions such as Alonso and Raikkonen?

^ Actually, the vorsprung is located between the vtrut and vrock vbsorber in every Audi.

So...I drove an R8 a few weeks ago. How was it? Incredible! 420 horsepower, Daytona Gray with a carbon-fiber sideblade, gated shifter, nice exhaust sound booming, excellent throttle responce! It belonged to none other than Juan Pablo Montoya, so now I've sat in the same car as he has, something few have ever done. Ultimate Bragging Rights during family Thanksgiving dinner!

Now for the Truth in Engineering part...I didn't go over 20 miles per hour, and I moved the car about one-tenth of a mile.

But still...

Tongue-twister paintjob canned

The new rusty colour on Audi’s soft-top SUV, the Cross Cabriolet quattro, is supposed to mimic the morning sun in Los Angeles.
To mark this fact, the designers of the car – based at the firm’s Californian design studio – wanted to name the new shade Pacific Sunrise. But Audi bosses in Germany had trouble saying the first part of the name, so insisted it was changed to Copper Sunrise instead.

That proposed shade of burnt orange is about 4 years too late to the party. Glut Orange makes more of an impact:

A4 gets Allroad look

Spy shots reveal Audi is poised to offer another version of its Allroad, this time on the A4 platform

2088897771_c7cf3f17d4.jpg
2088897777_2946e29b61.jpg

Here’s proof that Audi’s A6 Allroad is getting a little brother. Thanks to these spy shots, Auto Express can bring you the first pictures of the A4 Allroad – which we’ve snapped undergoing testing at the company’s base in Germany.

It gets a raised ride height, plus protective plastic wheelarch extensions and side sills. There’s also permanent quattro four-wheel drive. The A4 Allroad will bridge the gap between the new A4 range and the Q5 SUV, previewed in concept form with the Cross Cabriolet quattro.

Although this prototype is a saloon, the new arrival will also be available as an estate, and a range of fresh diesels will be used. Expect Audi to take the wraps off the newcomer in late 2008, with sales before the end of that year. It will be priced at around £25,000.

May I join? :D I love RS4's, thats why :)

That A4 Allroad thing, has the rear looks of the new BMW 3-series, and a front off the S3 if you ask me.
