Round 3: Tooheys 300 at Eastern Creek (Motegi Road Course)

Hello and welcome to Round 3 of the Australian V8 Supercar Series. This week the V8 circus has rolled into Motegi for the Tooheys 300. Series leader The Internet has won 3 out of the first 4 races, but this round will be impotant because he needs every point he can get. The reason being that Electric......., who pulled out of round 2 because of sponsorship problems, will be back for the race at Shanghai (Suzuka). I spoke to The Internet earlier this week about his views on the season so far. To see that interview, see post 2 of this thread.

So, before i post the qualifying details, here are the confirmed drivers for this week's racing:

nitro_2005 - #18 Stone Brothers Racing FPV GT (Out due to controller problems)
Bee - #27 GBR Superteam Holden Commodore SS
The Internet - #21 Dutch Bros. Golden RT FPV GT
GTRacer4 - #88 V8 Motorsport Holden Commodore SS (Out due to disc reading problems)
thrasher715 - #715 Corvette Racing Holden Commodore SS
boomboy - #50 Mobil 1 Racing FPV GT

jase86 - #07 Lightspeed Motorsports FPV GT
GT_Fan2005 - #12 GBR Superteam Holden Commodore SS (Out due to unavailability of Extreme Hall)
ls2_297 - #2 Holden Racing Team Holden Commodore SS

So congratulations to Inty for taking two more wins and the pole. But again I am disappointed with the small number of drivers competing. Even drivers who qualified failed to show. This is a series, people. If you agree to race a series, you do what you can to turn up for the dates set. To hopefully prevent (or reduce) no-shows, we are introducing a penalty system NEXT SEASON to anyone who fails to show up and does not give us a reason. It will work as follows:

1st Offence: A warning
2nd Offence: Another warning and points taken away
3rd Offence: Final warning and 1 race ban
4th Offence: EXCLUSION FROM THE SERIES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Again, this won't be in force until next season, so don't worry...yet.

As usual, championship results will go up in the Chit-Chat thread, so look there to see where you are now.

Next Round: Sinopec V8s China - Shanghai (Suzuka GP) - 12th to 18th December! DON'T MISS IT!

See ya in two weeks (hopefully!) :grumpy:

Here is my interview with The Internet:

nitro_2005: So, Inty, thanks for taking time to talk to us. First of all, how's the season going for you?
The Internet: My results really speak for themselves. This is my first online racing experience here, and I had no idea what to expect coming into it. I'm pleasantly surprised at what I've accomplished so far but I feel that with more competition, I'd show myself and everyone else what I'm really capable of.
n2k5: You've scored 3 wins and a 2nd place so far. Do you think you will be able to keep this up, or do you think someone will eventually challenge?
TI: My 2nd place was behind Electric....... . If he hadn't had a bad setup for the other race that round, I'm sure he would've won that one, too. When he returns, he'll probably take even more wins. I'm also interested in seeing boomboy push himself. He qualified 0.05 second behind me at Perth, but didn't really have great races. Maybe at a longer track like Eastern Creek he can get great qualifying and race times.
n2k5: Is it difficult for you to set up the car as you go into another round?
TI: It's difficult for me to set up the car for this round as I'm not a very big fan of the circuit. It's hard to measure when to brake, and I like setting the car up for a lot of understeer, which puts me in the gravel at almost every turn unless I'm really careful on the accelerator. Plus, I run the car so hard that I tend to kill the tires pretty quickly. All of these combined make set-up a tedious task that takes a while to do. I have to get enough oversteer in the car while tightening the brakes (in case I miss a turn), and all on medium tyres. For me, the suspension settings are everything this round.
n2k5: What do you think of Electric.......'s decision to return in Round 4?
TI: The more competitors, the better, even if they are more talented than I am. I hope to compete against more drivers of Electric.......'s caliber. However, missing four races really doesn't bode well for his championship hopes, and I'm pretty sure that if I podium my way through, even without a win or a pole, I'll get the championship.
n2k5: And that actually leads into my next question: Do you think he will pose any kind of threat to your championship?
TI: That would require me to take some time off as well.
n2k5: How do you manage to pull off lap times and race times which other drivers find difficult to beat?
TI: I think that's held in how well I know my car. I've had the FPV since before this series; I used it for another bunch of races on another message board. From that, I gained a lot of knowledge on setting it up and how much throttle to give for a certain turn, that kind of stuff. I know a lot of the people starting this series had heard of Holden and FPV and that was about it. In that way, I started with a bit of an advantage.
n2k5: Do you think the season as a whole has been a success?
TI: I'd liked to have competed against more people, but I also enjoyed winning, so I'd say success has only been so/so.
n2k5: Now there have been rumours that you are possibly going to have a teammate join you. Can you shed any light on that?
TI: That's looking pretty dark right now. A friend of mine enjoys Gran Turismo as much as I do, but he only owns GT1, so we'd have to get together to put up times. He's not sure if he wants to put himself out there without any experience in OLR.
n2k5: Finally, CAN you win at Eastern Creek?
TI: I'm really not sure. I hope my extra testing pays off, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.

 yeah. mind you those answers weren't made up by me. he PMed them to me himself and actually did it like it was a real interview.

Well, you did ask the questions.

nitro_2005
very true.....

Reminds me of that great F1 comp on the PSU forums. I would do the podium interviews. We made it look real as well. Good job Nitro.

guys, i have some sad news: i think i may have to miss this round and possibly the next due to controller problems. the one i use regularly has a jammed R2 button and my other one is faulty. so i cannot do any racing with my fpv gt at this present time.

oh, and for people who say "why don't you use automatic?", well i hate automatic on gt4 now, and always use manual.

Thats a shame... Well make sure you continue to grace us with your presence on here! :)

I think the Ford is going to win this week. Mine feels soo happy at 7000 RPM. :)

I managed, through many offs, to run a clean 1'46.071 in a short 20 minute session today. I'll work on it a bit more during the week. :)

Good luck guys.

Yeah I think me and Nitro will have to give this format a quick re-think soon, we will get back to you.
