Well I got my copy of GT4 1 day after taking delivery of my new Mazda RX-8, and I was on leave from work for a little over a week after that, so it was a big time in my life
I think I played about 50+ hours of GT4 that first week while at home. Now I average about 7-10 hours a week (including regular 2 player sessions with a friend) and still loving it, though I'm only about 35% in (didn't want to kill it early on like some people here seem to have).
As for your question about why we would want to play GT4 if we have a real car, the answer is simple. The cops don't like it when I race down the freeway at 200 km/h, and there aren't any rumble strips on the streets where I live to help satify my rumble strip fetish
