There are a great many amazing aspects of GT5. It is shaping up to be an incredible driving experience. But it is a flawed masterpiece. Among the countless threads detailing all that is special about GT5, this thread is about its flaws.

The rain effect. Amazing at first glance, just don't focus on the tyres. The spray acts in a strange fashion and very low resolution effects are used. Next time you see a rain racing video, watch the wheels of cars closely.

Night replays. In inside the car night driving is again, amazing. Watch the replay however and you see that only a few cars surrounding the drivers car have working lights and those light do not correctly interact with other cars. Panels on any given car are either fully lit or dark and pop between the two states. It is very jarring to watch given the high polish on display elsewhere.

See these three pics for one of the stange replay lighting effects. The car has only headlights visible, then its bright (with no external lights), then its dull, in a forth pic that I can find now it goes back to totally dark again like in the first pic.

Standard cars. The obvious flaw everyone knows about. Enough said.

Slowdown. There is no evidence of this apart from the word of KY, but I don't doubt it.

Feel free to add to this list, but don't post to flame. I am very excited about GT5, I really can't wait. I just think that negative aspects are just as valid to talking points as positive aspects.

I understand the point of your thread, but I think there's high risk this could get ugly... If you know what I mean...

I'll rather not be exposed to flaws that I don't experience with my own eyes. I'm not trying to ignore them or anything but why do an effort to ruin a good impression?

I do believe those will be improved upon release.

Just to add to the lighting, I can't remember which one but one of the vids showing night racing had the ground under the car being lit by it's own headlights.

Pointless thread it should be closed as you can't complain about a game that hasn't been released because how do yuo know that build etc is final.

When I have thoughts about this or that feature lacking in a game, I look at this picture and afterwards, I feel much better:

Good sir,

You have to take into account that despite being the most powerful console in the market, the PS3 can't achieve everything KY sets out to do. I understand and have even seen it, things like the rain spray and little details like that aren't as great as they could be, but the sole fact that we have says a lot, at least to me. Kaz himself has said it, even with all the power of the PS3, it won't be able to hold 60 FPS all the time due to the incredible amount of detail he's put into everything else.

We're watching.

I could close it pre-emptively, but it's a valid area of discussion (and since PD watch the site, they might like to know what's been seen) and I'd rather the imbeciles who'd make it ugly would make themselves known so I can save the rest of the site from them.

You stick to posting in threads that interest you. We will decide what is pointless.

Like posting in a thread you think is pointless to complain that it's a pointless thread rather than using the Report button like you should. *checks e-mail* Still got nothing.

Plus, GT5 already has so much detail, in every sense of the word. You can't possibly blame them for some missing minutiae (oh, fancy word here).

In the end, it's just a video game ;)

Then how can you discuss the positive points as they aren't from the final build either?

I must admit I think this thread could get ugly but I think it is valid, it just needs everyone to be mature about it.

EDIT: or what Famine said! If there are areas that the majority think could be done differently/better that may be easy for PD to change then they should be highlighted. As an example the excessive sparks in the Beta Rooms demo were discussed and now appear to be spot on...

Camara views: No Cockpits for 800+ cars. And Roof camara instead of a good bonnet/hood view!

Yep, it's a bit lame.

The laying on the roof of the car view is the most retarded view going. Why they can't have a bonnet view is beyond me... at least it'd make the non-premium cars half-realistic to drive.

Instead it's bumper cam which isn't ideal, but preferable to laying on the roof cam or behind the car cameras.

PD really are so bloody lame sometimes it peeves me off. Yes they can do some fantastic stuff but they also do some really stupid stupid things too!

Hey I am amazed that they have at least 8 cars running on detailed tracks at 1080p with rain effects (and not just any rain effects, some of the best ever seen). That to me is doing the near impossible. But we should not pretend that the game has no faults. I'd like to think that the GT community can acknowledge what is put before them and love the game anyway, as I do.

I couldn't see any effect on the track as cars went through it in the rain. It's as if the track just has a dry tarmac texture and a wet one.

But I haven't seen enough of it yet, and especially since I haven't seen a dynamic effect.

Sorry about that forgot about the report button.

I can see a use for a thread like this but re-name to something like "the flaws in gran turismo at the moment" as that makes sense, there is nothing really ugly or bad in gt5 builds so far but they are some flaws.

I can see what Neal said as well threads like this are needed but the name of this thread is just wrong, On another note I think that the rolling starts a flawed and cars need to be closer together and I would like to see proper NASCAR starts.

First and last time I'll be in this thread. It has a very strong 'what has been seen, cannot be unseen' feel for me. I'll post an example.

Look just below the gun barrel at Bond's fingers and line it up with his lips. What has been seen, cannot be unseen. I don't want my GT5 experience ruined. Ignorance is bliss.

Blah Blah Blah!

Sorry, but I think the only thing that's really wrong with GT5 at the moment, is the ungrateful part of the GT community. People have to understand that there are technical limitations in software development, that won't just go away. You really get a lot of content for your 50 bucks. Other game communities have far greater problems.

The light coming from the headlamps isnt all that bright or far reaching. Odd considering how brightly lit the road under the lights is.
Also it doesnt seem to illuminate signs like it should.

This isn't about slating what we have seen of GT5 so far or expecting the impossible from the current hardware. It's about discussing what areas fall short of what we believe to be Kazunori's ultimate vision of the GT series...like adults.

EDIT:Example image below, I don't think the road should be lit so much right in front of the center of the splitter

To be honest, I myself was kinda disappoineted about the headlight beam. Can't they just spread the light instead of stacking them up in one place?

I was hoping that it'd be very obvious when someone was behind you. It seems now if you look in your mirror you'll just see two white dots rather than bright lights.

I know people cover up bad elements by putting it down to youtube videos.

But in this case it is very plausible, something that looks too dark or too bright from a camera recording a tv set does not mean it will when your sat infront of it.

I dunno, whereas it may be possible, even probable, the lighting on the ground infront of the car is very bright....so white not the lights themselves.

It's a video game.. there will be ugly bits. No way around it because technology isn't and never will be perfect. So keeping that in mind I don't mind that there will be a few glitches in the game.. or not glitches as such but.. little things that may briefly look a bit odd on the screen. Who cares really.. I hardly play video games often enough to let things like that bother me now-a-days anyway.

Edit: Everything we've seen so far has been from Demos, So don't think for a second that the full version will have the same little issues the Demos have. I guess it's not really that important for a demo to be 100% free of bugs because, well, after all it's just that - a Demo! They probably think "Ah bugger it that'll do it's just to show off an example of the full game" So this whole dark thing that OP was talking about is only a minor thing, I wouldn't bet on it being in the full game.

So the point of my post is.. a demo is nothing more than a demo...So expect bugs from them.

Edit 2: Wait til you've played the full version before you start critisizing the game in any way. (Sorry for my spelling)
