well, sars actually did some damage, thats why thay had that huge concert, and also BSE is causeing some major damage here in alberta, even there has only been like 1 confermed case in the last few years or so....
 
you guys have socialized healthcare and you STILL get sick!

...lol, i bet thats nothing compared to the US though. its funny how everyone thought it was the end of the world with "the flu shot CRISIS!"

My parents were in Oz a couple of weeks ago, and didn't see one poisonous animal.

Yeah but I've seen enough of them to keep me out of the bush in summer. Last year I saw 3 poisonous snakes on school property and 2 within 500m of my house. But only one freaked me out, when I almost stepped on it, fastest I've ever ran :lol:. But anyway they're no real danger unless you're stupid.

My guess is that "family and social values" means religion, seeing that most of the countries on that list are Scandinavian.

I don't know what it stands for but anyhow it has nothing to do with religion. Scandinavia is one of the most secularised regions on this planet. It could have to do with public social/medical security systems.

Only snakes ive evr seen have been out in the country laying on the roads in hot weather.

I think you're thinking of the UN's little study ("Human Development Index" if I remember correctly) that ranks countries from best to worst. Out of 15 or 16 of these studies completed in the last 25 years, Canada has placed first in about eight or nine.

You are all forgetting that there are also tighter drinking controls in Ireland aswell. Landlords can get pretty big fines for serving someone who is already intoxicated.

But they always serve people when they're drunk. Visit Dublin city centre after the pubs close and you'll find it full of belligerent drunks.

The best thing you can do is phone for a taxi to pick you up from wherever you are and go straight to wherever you live or are spending the night.
