What he said, minus this

Super Mario Sunshine was just Super Mario 64 with new stuff to do and new levels to explore. Not a bad thing, in my opinion.

Aren't 90% of games/sequels the same thing with different things to do?

IMO, most multiplatform games suck on the GC. And I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens with the Wii.

As a sort of update on what I said in that post, I still haven't finished Echoes, and I doubt I ever will. That game is just far too tedious.

As someone who took any opportunity to buy a multi-platform game for the GCN instead of the PS2, I must say the only ones I was really disappointed by were made by EA.

However, although I haven't had a chance to play it yet, NFS:Carbon for the Wii actually looks quite good. Of course, Call of Duty 3 (published by Activision) for the Wii is flawed in every area -- the graphics stink more than they have to, the dialog loops endlessly, and although the run-and-gun gameplay works great, the "innovative" interactive sequences (most notably the one where you wrestle with a Nazi for his gun) are unresponsive and way too difficult.

Worst Games:
Wind Waker (Pure Insult and a slap in the face to any Zelda fan imo)

Aw, man -- why? Was it the cartoony graphics? I think it's fantastic (taking a break; recently got the Master Sword fully charged). The characters are so expressive, and the sounds, visuals, and general atmosphere are just so cool. I even really dig the music -- Zelda just wouldn't be the same without MIDI-style music, I'd say.

Somebody mentioned Paper Mario; I got the Thousand-Year Door not long ago, and I'm very impressed. That thing's a lot of fun.

Any of the Nintendo franchise games came across really well. They always do. RE4 started scaring the crap out of me, though.

Top GC Games

1. Resident Evil 1 (Remake) - I love this game so much I had to have the remake plus it was only £10 brand new.

2. Zelda WW - I know that most people dont like this game but it was my first foray into the zelda world and from this easy baby step of a game I was Grapple hooked :D

Worst GC games

1. Turok - Need I say more 👎

Sorry to revive the GC discussion but this system was far better than it got credit for... With a great controller it would have easily been right there with the others. :(

Best:
RE4
I believe RE4 is among the best ever on any of the consoles to that point in time. In fact, I firmly believe it is one of the top 3 best games ever made (to that point in time).
RE4 was so good it pretty much eclipsed anything else on the block.

Not the worst but the biggest let-down:
Don't hate me y'all but Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (MGS2 remake) was a real let down for me. Although I thought the idea of a remake would be great, I found that it wasn't. The controls just didn't work for me and in this modern age of dual joystick multi-button controls the game cube and MGS:TS just didn't meet my expectations.

How about this? Best or worst?

 Now thats marketing:p

For the person who asked upthread, Star Fox Assault is a good game, and while maybe not quite up to SF64 level due to the shooting levels, is a HUGE improvement on Adventures.

My picks for the best are:
Super Smash Bros. Melee - Arguably the best multiplayer title of its generation, with lots of strategy and a deep single-player mode. The GCN's No. 1 selling title for a reason

Mario Kart: Double Dash - Absolutely anyone - non-gamers, little cousins, racing game fanatics (like me) - can pick this up, play it and like it. To truly master the game can take years, but anyone can beat anyone in a given race. Isn't that the mark of a good game? The GCN's No. *2* seller for a reason

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - What's with all the sequels? Oh yeah, TTYD takes the best parts of the N64 Paper Mario (which kicked ass in its own right), adds in new wrinkles, looks great, and is FREAKIN' HILARIOUS doing it!

I never understood what problem people had with Adventures. No, it wasn't a Star Fox game in the traditional means, and no, it wasn't originally a Star Fox game either. That alone does not make it a bad game, and the game was quite good in its own right.

Well, it seems the GameCube keeps my attention well. It's the only working system I have right now and I'm playing Soul Calibur II with more enthusiasm than I did SCIII. Not because of Link as some may think, but instead because of the awesome combo... SC2 and the GC seem to be incredibly smooth on both controls and graphics.
The GC's odd controller may play a part... With the difference in layout I play the game differently, specifically, I use the Joystick all the time (I used to use the d-pad for most fighting games). This new control style has let me use Taki very well, something I never did well before. It's almost like I'm in an arcade playing a game I've never played before.

Combine the arcade experience with the awesome graphics and you've got a winning game. In this case, Soul Calibur II on the GameCube is definately a winner.

I think Double Dash, Smash Bros and Rouge Squadron were my favorites...

Can't think of bad ones because I never owned the console, just played on a mates..

Robin.

I doubt SC4 will be worse than SC2.
Heck, SC3 was excellent but the demands of the create-a-character system seemed to be too much for the PS2 to properly manage.

That said, the GameCube version of SC2 seemed more smooth and well controlled than the PS2 version, and my limited experience on the Xbox version would suggest the same but I'm hesitant to comment on a system/game combo when I have only a little experience with that particular combo.

All that said, I still feel RE4 on the GC was the best game of the generation with only a handful of games coming in with similar rankings.

Btw, I said the GameCube's controller was odd... Nothing more nothing less. :sly:

Why not? The Soul Caliber series hasn't really improved that much since the first game, with the second only narrowly being better. The series is already thought to be nearly the best batch of fighting games available, so it isn't as if not being as good as the prior game makes it a bad game.

Well I didn't say it would be a bad game.
I only said I doubted it would be worse than SC2.
I figure it will be just as smooth in control, look way better, and probably have many more features. I just hope they deliver on the idea of a next gen soul calibur and not simply a sequel to the last one.

I'd bet having high hopes for SC4 hinges entirely on whether or not you liked SC3. I didn't, and it looks like Toronado didn't, either.

The character creation system could have made for an excellent game with a lot of replay value, and it wasn't executed that badly, but the actual fighting engine was ruined. Soul Calibur 2 was a very fluid and strategical 3D fighter, and though not particularly realistic, it still had a solid pace and feel. Soul Calibur 3, meanwhile, was updated with the Tekken 5 engine, and turned into a fast-paced jerky mess.

Maybe it's just me, but the solid, strategic feel SC2 had was lost completely in SC3. It became more literally like Tekken with swords -- which isn't good in my eyes, considering I think of the Tekken series as some of the worst 3D fighters around. Glorified rock-paper-scissors jugglefests is all they are.

I may have held a bit of hope for SC4 in the past, but the announcement of the silly Star Wars crossover convinced me that Namco just doesn't take the series seriously anymore.

my first gamecube game was Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2, Rogue Leader. back then the graphics of this game were incredible and to this day the graphics are still fantastic, imo if they re-released it in high def it would still look up to date with ps3 games.
But ye the gamecube was pretty underrated. As a console the design and ergonomics were 2nd to none.

Well, I liked Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
The controls were abit err... but isn'it that why people
buy PS2 controler converters?

I brought a Gamecube for this very game. And Resedent Evil 4.

RE4 was pretty good, but I couldn't stand all the cut-scenes in Twin Snakes. I liked the PS1 original one much better.

Like the poster above you, I think Mario Kart Double Dash was great. One of the best multi-player I've ever played!

Edit: Wow, my bad, I already nominated Mario Kart: DD. Cut me some slack though, it was back in 2006!

Yes, sometime the cutscenes in The Twin Snakes were abit
long and boring, and a few times thay were just over the top
{e.g. the Hind D fight} But to me it was a good remake:)

And Liquid's english accent was as evil as ever:tup:👍

Oh come on. None of you mentioned Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time? That game was absolutely perfect and incredible. I must have played through it 8 times on my black gamecube (I haven't taken it out for so long that I actually had to think about what colour it was for a second, I thought it was purple).

First game I ever got on the ol' Jee See. I still remember the day I bought it with PoP at, strangely, Toys 'R Us. Couldn't wait to play it; still a beautiful game with beautiful visuals and a wonderful soundtrack and story...just awesome.

I tried playing it on my HD TV after we got our 47 inch, but it was so washed out and blurry to the point that it was unplayable. But then they released the HD version of the trilogy! At first I was going to buy the box set, but I've never played the second or third ones, and I'm super pumped for those (I know the prince missed out on his angst medication in the second one, but whatever, it's Prince of Persia). I'll have to replay the first one again to re-refresh my memory (not that I need to, but I'm picky like that), but I'll do so gladly, on my old little tube TV that I played it so often on. I've got my bed set up in my room so that it faces the closet, and I've got my TV on a table in there, so I'm pretty excited to play it again and finally, finally have a crack at the other two.

But this has gotten very far from gamecube discussion...

Favourite games? Let's see...the usual:

RE4 (played through probably 10 times in total, including watching my friend play through and other friend play through on Wii with the motion controls...jesus)

Metroid Prime 1 + 2, great games, except for one horrible night at a friend's place when I got stuck in the ice cavern and spent the whole night figuring out how to get out, and then had pancakes with Aunt Jemimah's and found out, for sure this time, that I was allergic to syrup and it gave me massive, horrifying, painful diarrhea...still get chills from that memory. But great games, nonetheless.

Pikmin 1 and 2 were pretty fun.

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
...wouldn't say my favourite, but spent many hours playing it, and freaking out completely when I tried for the four hundred sixtieth time to beat Sub Zero in the training.

Worst Games?

NFS Carbon....ugh, don't get me started. I played through it again through one night a few years ago, and even though it was kind of fun, afterwards it left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and I don't really know why. I just get depressed when I think of that game, and I don't like it.

Second Sight. Bargain bin pickup (didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid, so I tended to get those pretty often). It was okay, I guess, and the dart gun was kind of fun at times, but overall, I was left with a somewhat bad impression, similar to NFS, but not quite as strong.

The Hulk
. Jesus, awful game, can't believe I spent the money on it; should have just been a bit more patient and saved up for Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, or whatever it was called (far better game). Stupid cheats that literally finish the game for you, awful, awful awful awful sneaking missions, clunky gameplay, stupid all around. What do you expect, it's a cheap movie title cash-in.
