The Fit is extremely slow, but so are all the other cars in this class. Personally, I think the Veloster is the best car for the money, and Hyundai has been making ultra-reliable cars for a few years now. To discredit the car because you don't know much about Hyundai was a mistake-you shoulda done more research.

Someone hasn't driven anything "extremely slow" then.

The Fit I drove was plenty quick. Kept up fine with traffic and I've no doubt it has more than enough go for any situation on US highways.

And this is pretty much the slowest, especially in diesel form. It has top "speed" of 35mph..

I must be living in some far distant century, where a car that can cruise at well over 100 mph for long periods of time and which can hit 60 mph in 9 seconds is considered slow.

Makes me feel sad about my truck, which takes about 30-40 seconds to hit 60 mph...

The problem with describing acceleration, is that you're getting the information from folks who drive much faster fare most of the time. Sure, the Fit isn't a sportscar, but it moves well and holds its momentum solidly between turns. It's more than enough power to keep up with 95% of the traffic from a stoplight, or when pulling into traffic at the right moment...in the later case, you just can't be that jerk that pulls into another's lane dangerously, but accelerates mightily in an attempt to dissipate your anger.

Compared to econoboxes of a decade or two ago, most of what's out there today aren't too shabby in terms of performance, features, and quality. There's not as much compromise, unless you need a track car out it, or need far greater interior space.

Want slow, ever driven a Smart fortwo? Or so I've heard, their all-electric model if you think the fortwo is a rocket. But that's not the priority of that buyer, obviously.

It's also worth noting that hardly anybody actually accelerates faster than about 10-12-ish seconds to 60 mph from a dead stop. In this regard, the Fit is okay.

And, having tested it, it's as fast to that metric as a 2.5 liter CX7, a 2.4 liter CR-V and slightly slower than a Civic 1.8.

My daily commute is mainly composed of a 70mph 2-hour long cruise through highways, the Fit is not the best tool for the job, but it does it impeccably. Even tire, wind and engine noise aren't tiring in any way.

I'm not saying it is fast in any way, but it is in fact quick enough for 90% of situations.

Well since it's so hard to get a Fit here in TN,I'm still playing the waiting game.I'm going to be getting one the 2nd week of November.Hopefully it gets here on time.

My daily commute is mainly composed of a 70mph 2-hour long cruise through highways, the Fit is not the best tool for the job, but it does it impeccably. Even tire, wind and engine noise aren't tiring in any way.

I'm not saying it is fast in any way, but it is in fact quick enough for 90% of situations.

The FIT is quite noisy on the highway, but only in the back seat.
As for not being the best tool for long highway cruising, is the suspension your qualm?

Actually, that pretty much depends on the definition of 'noisy' that's being used. I already drove a Beetle back and forth through highways, which is why my eardrums aren't exactly a yardstick for measuring purposes.

But again, as long as you don't actually push the engine much over highway speeds, the noise levels are tolerable for something like two to three hours.

As for not being the best tool for long highway cruising, is the suspension your qualm?

Exactly, you know when you're about to enter a long bridge, the type of which has many sections amended together? It's pretty hard to tolerate the thump made by the rear suspension, specially when there is no cargo on the boot or even passengers on the rear bench.. It quite shows where the money has been saved on the car.

@Starfirebird : Have you considered contacting another dealer? I wouldn't tolerate all the waiting you've been through, give them a call and request a solid and irrefutable delivery date, otherwise just cancel the deal and seek another dealer mate. Unless, of course there aren't any Honda dealers on your vicinity.

Meh, even the smart isn't that slow in the greater scheme of things. I've driven the diesel which is the slowest of the bunch and still matches the Fiesta I drove for the first 6.5 years of being able to drive. About 15 seconds to 60.

The completist in me wants to point out I've driven the electric one on two occasions too, but never did a 0-60 run in either so can't really comment. It seemed okay from 0-typical town driving speeds.

Slow is my Beetle, which does 60 in around 22 seconds. Maybe longer given its age. 15 seconds feels like a spaceship after that. My daily takes about 9 and the quickest car I've driven (Audi TT-S) takes about 5. Some are quicker than others, but ultimately it's down to how you drive it, and how often on a regular basis you think you'll be doing 0-60 runs.

I expect a Fit will have enough performance for the majority of situations you'd come across on the road. You wouldn't be winning any races but frankly anyone scared of driving a Fit is a wimp.

You know i've thought about contacting another dealer as i was getting quite upset,but the guy i'm getting it from assured me it would be here on the second week of november.

There is 3 more dealers around my area.He told me it would take them just as long to get one as it would them.From looking online in my area i believe him.You just don't see 2012 Honda Fits around here, let alone 2011 models.

I call it that because it's a tease: Goes like a little rocket in 1st gear, but every after that is too tall, and it feels like you broke something into 2nd and 3rd gears. Sort of like a rig/lorry...deceptively quick for the first 100 feet, and then anchors aweigh!

Sorry to bring this thread back to life after a month.

I just wanted to say that i finally got the car(i got it last thursday).I now own a 2012 Honda Fit Sport.I ended up going with the Black color as i think this color looks best on this car.

The car is awesome.Tons of room(more than my coupe had).Even though it only has 117HP it's much quicker than my 140HP car i did have.I handles my backroads like a true sports car(well it feels good to me).There is no body roll when going into the corners so the suspension is pretty solid.It rides a bit rough at times,but it's nothing to go cry to mom about.The seats are pretty comfortable,the way they are made makes you keep your posture when driving,took me a few days to get used to.Having foglights helps a ton for driving at night.I can't see that well at night so having these foglights is pretty dang cool.The paddle shifters on the steering wheel is quite fun when you get used to it.I play around with these on the backroads.

Overall it is one awesome small hatchback.Even though it looks small on the outside it is huge on the inside.I would highly recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a small car.

I was supposed to get this back in November but here is what happened.
The whole reason for it taking so long to get one is because they only make the Fit in Japan.With Japan having that massive tsunami earlier this year put a hamper on shipping out products,so this is why it took so long.The new CRV had the same problem as it is only made in Japan.

Just thought i would drop by and give the update on the vehicle. 👍

I once clocked my Peugeot's 0-60 at 32 secs +/- 2 sec, and on uphill sections of motorway, it was overtaken by lorries.

So, I think you could do a lot worse than a Fit. 👍

I was surprised when i test drove this thing for the first time.I was going in thinking it wasn't going to have any oompf at all.Boy was i wrong.This thing is pretty peppy just to have a 1.4 liter V-tech Engine.
