And so, The Crew is back...
Excited Season 3 GIF by The Simpsons

1. On PC only.
2. Only if you already have it on Steam or have the game files left on your drive from pre delisting/"wiping" by Ubisoft. Even if you have a copy of the PC disc, you would need to find the update files which are not available officially.

However, here is 25 minutes of gameplay

And here is Hoki's brief summary video about The Crew generally which includes links to the Unlimited website and Patreon etc.

For me, the biggest thing in that video that I had forgotten is the side by side showing all the locations in TC1 that were removed or downgraded in TC2. That has always irritated me (we did get the newly constructed tower 1 in Manhattan in TC2 which was only a building site in TC1, though). The elevator ride show in Tower 1 is amazing, by the way (or at least it was in 2015 when I went up it).
I had also forgotten that there was variable weather in TC1 with cloud/rain/snow banks moving across the map.

For those lucky ones playing the game again, what are your thoughts?

Is it how you remember and how do you think it compares to (especially) TC2 and the "spin off" TCM?

What are your greatest memories of the original The Crew?

For me, it was the awful graphics on release and then that massive graphics upgrade with the Wild Run update. And game wise, it was all the hours lost trying to unlock just one more square in the middle of Lake Michigan

I almost forgot how good arcade games of this era were. The cutscenes, the missions, even the pedestrian animations put much of our current generation arcade racers to shame. The single player grind is real though…. I am also happy to report it works pretty well with most direct drive wheels with the help of an extraconfig.xml referred to in Black Panthaa’s video. Fanatic wheels currently have issues though…

Nice to get some feedback, thanks.

There were bound to be some unexpected issues with the launch, no way a small unofficial team could test every combination of wheel etc but I expect they'll look into fixing that if it's causing a lot of issues.

As for the single player grind - all The Crew games have had that. The summits help a little by giving bucks and rewards, but of course that's not an option available here.

I think all "live service" games seem to basically "force" you to do their weekly/monthly "chores" in order to complete the game as efficiently as possible, which creates an instant issue when they go offline.

Look at the issue with collecting cars in GT5, GT6 and GT Sport if you started those games now. And FH4 and FH5 will both be a lot more "grindy" once they go offline.

The team is putting out patches and updated launchers very quickly. As for the grind, you can choose whether or not to use offline server cheats (built in option for offline only). So, I multiplied payouts by 10. That felt just about right. After I play all the way through the story, I will start another game without payout boost…. The fact is I am hooked again. Just wish TDUSC was somewhere near the same quality. Those devs need to play The Crew to understand just how far behind the ball they are… (especially when compared to a game made so many years ago).
