Got picked up from uni by my mum and sister at 8:30 last night. The back seats of the car were down so I went to put them up and got in to go home. Got home, made toast, sat down to watch Frozen Planet, went to get laptop........****!!! Where's my bag? My bag containing laptop, un-backed up essay to be handed in tomorrow, all uni notes from the year so far and several library books? Check car and house, not there! Oh ****, must've set it down on the road fixing the car seats. Went back to uni, asked at library to see if it had been handed in, lost property was closed for the night but the guy at the service desk said nothing had been handed in recently. Went to look on street where I got into the car, not there. Had a look round the car park, no. Almost gave up hope and was about to go home to cry, but in despiration went to the library again. The guy at the service desk called me over and asked what was in the bag, I listed the items and he said it sounds like the one that had just been handed in. Apparently some older guy found it on the street, saw the library books and wondered it they could check who it belonged to, since I asked the first time.
Just relieved I don't have to try in vain to redo the essay, trying to remember all my quotes and references. And I'll remember to back up my work and not set my bag down even for a second again! I tend to have a pretty negative view of people in general, but things like this really show that there's some good people left in the world. The bag was probably sitting on he street for an hour or more in quite a busy area, thank goodness it was found by the guy who it was found by.
