So I've dragging almost everyday for the past 5 months. Can't even remember the last circuit racing room I joined, probably sometime in July. But just the other day, no decent Indy OR SSR7 rooms were open so I was like hell I'll join a circuit racing room. Dug up my wheel and hooked it up. It was a 550PP room at Sarthe (No Chicane) with plenty of GTP_*Insert Name Here* people. My BMW CSL was fully tuned so I reset it to default, lowered the ride height, added some camber and other simple stuff. When it came to my tranny, I used all my tricks, flipping tranny, finding the right shift points, what is the max speed I will hit on the track then add some for drafting blah blah you know the rest. To my surprise, I was at the top of the qualifying board. When the race started, everyone blew past me, mostly because of my drag style tranny with a long 1st gear. But after I got up to speed, one by one I would reel them in until I got to the pole. But I did notice one thing; I was faster than anyone on the straights. The only way they could catch me was if they got in my draft or in the corners. But Sarthe, being a high speed track, gave me the advantage. For the 6 or so races I was there, I placed 1st in most of them.

So just to anyone that is having a slow day in the drag lobbies, don't be afraid to join a circuit racing lobby, you could do very well indeed :)

Haha will have to test this. You were telling me this last night when we were tuning until I got disconnected.

Imagine a drag racers vs drifters vs circuit racers event :D That would be great! :D

Yea, it's like getting a whole new game

I can see it now. Draggers will win on the straights, circuit tuners will get us in the corners. drifters... will just get in the way

I am going to get some messages now from drifters saying that I'm saying they are slow

I've been using the tranny trick for a while in circuit racing, it helps a good bit most of the time.👍

Yes, but there is a lot more than just the "tranny trick" ;)

I have my rx-7 tuned that way. It was Onboy's idea. It's just awesome. I launch off the line fast enough to get in the lead right away and it's fast 'round the corners too. I might be posting that setup in the KMW topic. :)

Yeah but DLR you think you could win on a track with no long straights? This is a good idea don't get me wrong but with a drag tune you would easily win on Sarthe or SSR7.

This isn't a "drag tune" he is using, rather he is using the knowledge he gained from tuning the transmission in a drag car to tune the transmission in his circuit cars, and I must say, I do the same thing and it works rather well no matter how long the straights are.

Exactly. Granted, I'm not the best driver in the world; as it would be a momentous day if I could do a clean lap around the ring in a 600pp room, but enough to tackle Sarthe or Fuji. As for the straights, the longer they are, the worse off for me really. Imagine a 450pp room at Sarthe No Chicanes. If I use my drag transmission, 1st gear will take me to around 90mph, in a 400hp car

My launch will be less than spectacular...

Meh, you want to have a decent take off to the 1st corner because a lot of races are won or lost by then in decent rooms.

Till they decide to shortcut the first chicane......

races are rarely won in the first corner, they're often lost there though.

^^^

True that. Can't tell you how many people pushed me off the track first corner. I can see why people are so frustrated with online lobbies, people will do literally anything to win

I havent been playing gt5 for a while now wuts this tranny flip thingy.
Not sure, but my friend hangs out on 'The Strip' and he has probably seen it.

Seriously, its kind of a secret for most and I'll leave it at that.

But what about when a circuit tuner knows about all your little tricks with the gearbox, and knows more about the suspension and diff side of things? ;)

Then again... I'm not most circuit tuners.

So , drag racing = transmission setup -> advantage :sly:

There is more to circuit racing than just transmission setup and that's a different set of "skills" .
I used to race on circuit with 99% same setup as I used for drag race in GT4 and that didn't work out too well.

Nowdays when I race in GT5 I still know how to set up the transmission and I've also learned a bit more about circuit tuning.

So far I haven't done much online drag racing/tuning because of the lack of proper drag strip.

Regardless of the fact that we are still lacking a proper strip and tree, I encourage you to still try it out. Most of the races are generally spot on if you can find a good room.
