Can I? No. Can several other people? Yes.

If people in the automotive buying community can get suckered into such marketing schemes as the "Hemi" badge, I think if you come up with a cool sounding name for a performance transmission and slapped a "sporty" designation on a vehicle it will sell.

But Toronado is suggesting offering it as an option at a premium cost on any car on sale today. Can you justify over a thousand dollars for a "sporty feeling"?

Lets not forget for a moment that the story is about Volkswagen, not Porsche. There have been stories circulating for two years or more now that Volkswagen has wanted to dump Tiptronic in favor of DSG on ALL models in the future simply because the transmission makes more sense in most cars they are put into. When you are offering the driveability of an automatic with the performance of a manual, I'm just not seeing where the problem lies.

...DSG, if I'm not mistaken, is currently offered on most of the small-car lineup at VW, and at least as of 2006, was even an option on the TDI models as well. Sure, they haven't stuck it in the trucks or the large sedans, but VW is working on it... Make no mistake.

Maybe I'm just a crazy VW guy, but I don't see why this is a problem. We don't need to justify anything here, as Volkswagen is already doing it.

If I had the option of a standard manual transmission instead, no.

If I had to choose between an automatic and DSG, I'd pay any price to take the DSG. If I couldn't afford it, I'd go home carless.

Anything that helps lead to the abandonment of the torque converter is a blessing as far as I'm concerned. This article is great news. 👍

This just in, the next Porsche 911 will be a mid-size family sedan, priced just above the Toyota Camry, yet still slotted below Audi's lineup.

This whole argument is invalid in the face of the fact that you can still get a base-spec 911 with rear drive, a 6-speed manual, and a fixed roof. The key word here is optional.
