I felt the need to create this forum for the simple fact that I am a first time player of the Elder Scrolls series, and it is absolutely confusing to say the least! So I hope that some of you out there have this game for the Playstation 3 and can share information. Right now, Im confused about how to complete the second quest!

But first, a few rules (As suggested by Ebiggs):

1. If your post contains a spoiler, type spoiler in the largest letters at the top of the post. That way those who don't wish to ruin anything can skip over your post.

2. When people ask questions that relate to quests or something else you're supposed to figure out on your own, PM the answer. Kind of goes along with rule one. Some people like to play the game without any help at all, and sometimes small hints, like who to talk to in order to continue a quest, can be annoying to those people.

You dont necessarily have to pm the answer to questions to people, but if it will give away too much information and could ruin the fun for someone else, please do.

which quest is the second? Im 60 hours into the 360 ver so i might be able to help if it's pretty similer..

Well i dont know how similar it is, which is why i posted a new thread in the PS3 forum. Reguardless, it is called, Breaking the siege of Kvatch. What do i have to do after i go into the gate of oblivion?

Edit: I think i have it figured out now. I have the official guide, but its a little general, maybe because it covers all platforms.

Just accidentally found a Unicorn, yes, a Unicorn. After doing some search on Google, I found out that this Unicorn indeed always appears in one place in Oblivion world, and it'll attack you if you draw your weapon near it. Yes, you can ride it, but it'll walk away or attack other animals nearby if you dismount. I've had it in a stable and saved the game.💡 really cool:tup:

note that the Unicorn is protected by two or three Minotaurs, so if you fight with them around the Unicorn, it'll also attack you, unless you just use your magic of course.

you have to follow the path around oblivian until you find the door into the main tower. Once you get inside you just go up all the staircases etc, until you get to the very top, theres a big beam of light going up to the roof. Walk upto it and press a or x, to grab the sigil stone. everything will start to fall to bits and the screen whits out. Next thing you no your outside and the oblivian gate has been blown to bits.
Hope that helps lol.

The unicorn is awsoem becouse it's also guarded by four minatours:D

WTF? Oblivion is out? Looks like I have to go to the store.

I am so addicted to this game. I figured out that quest, by the way. I just got accepted into the blades and got some cool armor and stuff. Very exciting!

So, I read on Planet Elder Scrolls that the playstation 3 version of oblivion has :

"Better graphics: the game will support 720p HD resolution. It also contains new graphic shaders, like the ones that determine how the near detail and far detail blend together on the landscape. You no longer have a line cutting across the two levels...they blend together seamlessly and the far detail land looks much nicer than ever before."

Has anyone really witnessed this first hand?

Yes, I stood on a mountain peak over looking the whole land with the Imperial City out in the distance. The sun dove across the sky and slowly faded. Trees and grass went as far as I could see it and detail of the city was also visible.

Now, I just need to stop dying. I'm stuck at the Oblivion gate at Kvatch too. I always run out of items to heal myself. I just suck at it.

What is with these fortresses all over the place? Are they just a pretty name for a dungeon?

Well, i made it through that area because i found a claymore of shock (at least i think that is what it was called). And all the little scamp things have a weakness to shock. It only had like 50 charges out of 300 left on it, but luckily, i found one of those things that recharges it. So, dealing with most of the bad guys wasnt too tough. I found it in one of those fleshy pod things, somewhere inside that gate.

Yeah, most of the ruins and stuff you find are dungeons. Go treasure hunting.

Before this thread gets much further, I think we should set a few rules.

1. If your post contains a spoiler, type spoiler in the largest letters at the top of the post. That way those who don't wish to ruin anything can skip over your post.

2. (this may not be a good idea...up to you guys I guess) When people ask questions that relate to quests or something else you're supposed to figure out on your own, PM the answer. Kind of goes along with rule one. Some people like to play the game without any help at all, and sometimes small hints, like who to talk to in order to continue a quest, can be annoying to those people.

I agree with these rules. I dont want to spoil anyones fun. Mainly, i thought this would be a good thread to discuss how to raise different types of characters, maybe discuss some spells, or weapons, just anything about the game. If anyone wants help with a quest, i suggest they look at a walkthrough first, to avoid spoiling, or giving away stuff. If a walkthrough doesnt help, or you are still stuck, then I would post a question in here.(that was my case).

Well, things like that, I dont think would give away too much. Personally, I wouldnt want to wander around the world of Cyrodiil forever looking for it. Although, i dont care too much about it right now anyway.

I picked this game up the other day. I'm several hours into it, and still haven't leveled up.. lol.

I died for the first time today, too. Some jackass conjurer dropped a building on my head. Didn't see that one coming.

I'm doing more of the side quests and dungeons than the main quest at the moment.

So what's everyone playing? I'm a Wood Elf Archer.

Do you know that you have to go to sleep in order to redeem your level up?

I am a Breton Warrior. Its pretty general, which I wanted to do just so I could get used to everything. I will most likely start a new game with a different type of character soon.

JIC there are some excellent faq's over at the ES IV page on gamefaqs. I've found it usually easier to avoid spoilers searching/skimming through a faq using a text search compared to asking questions in a forum. Just my $0.02.

And I had it for a little while last year when I was trying out a 360. It is a fantastic game, no doubt.

Ahh, ok I was just making sure..haha. So what quests have you been doing, if not the main ones?

Well, let's see. I stop in just about every dungeon I come across. There's one just outside of Skingrad that took me over an hour (must have been several days of game-time). Granted, at Level 1, I do more of a "snooping" style of dungeon-crawling rather than "run-n-gun". Which is helpful for killing baddies before they see you. You get a 3x multiplier for a sneak attack if the target doesn't know you're there (handy for an archer). That's an instant kill on virtually everything at this point in the game (goblins, imps, humans).

Anyway. The only real main quest part I've completed is delivering the Amulet to the Priory. I haven't gotten to Kvatch yet (stopped at Skingrad, I've been hanging out there since yesterday).

Side quests.. lemme think. I did the one for the merchants in Imperial City (got me a ring with 10% protection from Fire and Frost), helped a guy outside the city with some fish scales (got a ring that lets me breath underwater), helped a village with their invisibility problem (got free lodging at the inn for life). Helped a paranoid guy in Skingrad. Got a fair bit of money for that one, over 1000 gold, although what I have is probably nothing compared to what I'll get later.. hehe.

That's about it, really. Not sure how much overall time I've put into the game so far. I picked it up.. er.. Thursday, I think. Played it for about an hour Thursday night, enough to get me out of the city, right after the Emperor was killed. Played for about four or five hours yesterday afternoon/evening, and about two hours this morning. So what's that, about eight hours or so. Mostly just wandering around, taking in the sights and such.

Sometimes I'll just get an idea to do something, and head off to do it. I needed to practice my bow, so I fiddled with some targets in Skingrad for a while, learned how you have to arc the flight of the arrow to hit distant targets, which has helped immensely in plucking imps out of the air from a hundred feet away. Decided I wanted to hunt some deer, so went snooping around the woods for an hour or so until I finally found one. Things like that. They really weren't kidding when they said there was a ton of stuff to do in this game besides the main quest. And to think, I've barely scratched the surface.

I need to compare all three version of Oblivion in 1080p. If only I had a good way to take a screenshot, I could get each one to have a scenic view and compare details. I'm not sure that my PC has the power to run it at 1080p though. Its brutal enough on it in 1280x1024.

I see. I have also completed a few of those quests. Like the paranoid guy in Skingrad. I started with that fish scale one, but couldnt figure out how to do it or where to go.

I suck at sneaking around though. Everytime that I try, I always get caught before I get there. Any tips?

And @ Ebiggs, I really wish that you could find a way to compare them all. Or at least the Xbox360 vs. the PS3. It would be very interesting. Supposedly, the PS3 looks a little better, especially with the far away details.

Game Trailers has comparison videos. The 360 is still not able to display the colors correctly. Plus, the 360 had problems displaying the water at long distance. I can say it looks wonderful on PS3 with HDMI.

Today, I completed some side quests. Like the one in Anvil on The Serpent's Wake. There are these ghosts inside and you have to kill them with magic. Since I'm pretty pathetic with magic, I lured them to the first deck, and they kinda got stuck in the door way. So, I laid it on them with flare magic. Not sure if that's how you're supposed to complete the quest, but it worked.

I've been making some cash money by stealing people's books, especially the ones from the temples. If they display the "stolen hand" on them, I just drop them and pick them back up, and the stolen symbol is gone.

I got Oblivion today.

My character is Imperial, The Ritual, and a custom-class, Hero, which I made as:

Combat:
Strength
Personality
-Blade
-Marksman
-Destruction
-Conjugation
-Healing
-Mercantile
-Speechcraft

Nice post. I went to that link and I watched the second video, and in it, the lighting of the ps3 version looked superior by far. I recommend everyone watches it. The part that the PS3 looks much better at is a little ways into the vid, when they start the fighting. Check it out! Also, I noticed that the in the ps3 version, things in the background appear waaay before they do in the 360 version.

Hm. Not really.. hehe. Most of the sneaking I've done was in the caves and dungeons, where it's just a matter of going very slowly into the next section and hoping that you can see the baddies from a distance before they see you.

I did a bit of sneaking in some of the quests, where you have to follow someone, but didn't have any trouble with any of it. A couple of times, the mark would see me, even look at me as they walked by, but never did anything, just kept on walking.

For the fish-scale quest, just mark it as your Active Quest, and the green arrow on your compass will point you into the lake. Specifically, they'll point you to the closest fish. Just swim up to them and kill them with a sword (they will attack you if you're not quick enough). Then Search the body and take the scales. The green arrow will move to the next-closest fish. Once you have enough (the game will tell you when you have enough), return to the old man and get your reward. Only took me about ten minutes or so.

Wait, that works? Damn, I should try that.

I think it was just a glitch, it only worked on the books I stole from the temples. I had a helmet that I stole and it didn't work. I'm trying to see if I can reproduce the glitch again.

I picked pocket a cityguard in the middle of daylight today, got away with it with some gold...hoho..so cool, I'm gonna try it again.
