The entire forum was resized?

I've noticed recently (mostly in the GTRA | RSeat WSGTC S3 | Main **Preseason Round 3 Posted** thread) that there are a bunch of images that need to be clicked to resize. At the start of the WSGTC qualifier there were a bunch of these fillers along with many other images that were all just slightly too wide to be properly displayed on the forum, for example:

The absurd part about this whole thing, is that when enlarged, the image still looks as if it fits just fine within the post width. I'm wondering if the new(ish) rounded corner design possibly ended up reducing the standard post width by just a couple pixels or something. If this can easily be remedied it would probably save many folks who try to have nice banners/graphics for their racing series from having headaches. 👍

I think it fixes itself if you do a couple things:

1) Change the forum width to "wide"
2) Turn off the auto image resizing

I avoid it while making images for my threads by setting their max width at 700px. That prevents them from being resized.

I like the image resizer, I can post my 4MP GT5 photos and they get resized for the viewers of said photo but if they want to see it in its fullHD sweetness they can.

As for the rounded corner making the pixel size smaller is not true at all(well to me at least).

Here is a quick mock up I made in GIMP.

The rounded edges still have same width but just look nicer.

Blue is new rounded style and red is classic square style(which is overlapping new style to show no pixel change)

What size is your monitor? and what is the resolution?

In the fixed-width version of the site (which is displayed by default to members and guests), any image wider than 700 pixels will be re-sized and the "click to enlarge" border will be displayed across its top. That hasn't changed since GTP11 was introduced in October last year, so I can't explain why any images would suddenly become re-sized unless the width of the source image has changed itself.

The re-sized width doesn't allow images to extend the full width of the right side of the post table to account for large images displayed inside the confines of a more narrow quote box.

Ok well let me try a different approach here...

In my write-up thread (linked in my sig): https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=196696

When I wrote and posted that write-up I added 4 images at the end of the story. At the time they were displayed in a 2x2 square pattern. Now they are being displayed individually down the post. I didn't plan for them to be displayed 2x2 but I kinda liked it. Seeing all the little banners in the WSGTC thread just reminded me that my pictures weren't in a square anymore.

This isn't a complaint or anything, just curious.

Yeah, if you have 2 or more photos next to each other that exceed that 700px width, it'll force them down. You could fix it by resizing the photos, and that's about it.

Oh, sorry, I didn't understand what you were originally asking. I see you originally posted that thread before GTP11, with its fixed-width (narrow) style, was released.

As R1600Turbo mentioned, to ensure the images are displayed on the same line now, just re-size them. The post area is 794 pixels wide, so each image should be 397 pixels wide if you want them to display side-by-side (in practice, you'll likely want them to be a bit smaller than that to ensure there's a space or gap between the two images).

Ok cool, I mean it's not really a problem or anything... just something I noticed. I'm not really going to bother resizing the images; they're a just the standard 500px medium format from Flickr. Just out of curiosity, what was the overall forum width before the new change? Must have been just above 1000... 1024?

The images in your write up are displaying correctly for me. What resolution is your screen running at?

You realize they still download that 4mp file, which doesn't exactly help with loading times or rendering speeds?

It was flexible; it would extend to the full width of your browser window or screen. So, although you may have seen the images side-by-side in your thread, a user with a smaller resolution or re-sized browser window would have seen them displayed vertically, as they appear now.

You can revert to "old", wide style if you like by adjusting the "Forum Page Width" setting in your account options.

You put old in quotations, but the options I see are "Normal" and "Wide." Was wide the default before? Because I've never changed any of those settings. Also, I realize that the "Wide" setting adjusts to the width of your browser window, but I never change the size of my window and I seem to remember my two 500px pictures fitting side by side and just barely fitting the post box; as if it was fixed width, just wider than where it is now. Like, I don't remember it being edge to edge... there were still borders.

I realize that there really isn't a problem here and there will not be a resolution to this, just a curiosity that I had and was interested in discussing.

Yes, "Wide" used to be the default setting. If you could see the two images side-by-side before October 2011, then your browser window was wider than the site's content area is now. If someone was viewing your thread with a lower resolution screen or a smaller browser window, the images would have been "pushed down" and displayed vertically, as you see them today.

To see this in action, set your forum display width setting to "Wide" in your account options. Then, drag the side of your browser window and make the page more narrow.
