Farming Simulator is a farming simulation video game developed by Giants Software. The locations are based on American and European environments. Players are able to farm, breed livestock, grow crops and sell all assets created from farming. The game has sold millions of copies, and is considered the most widely played realistic farming simulation game.

In career mode, the player takes on the role of a farmer. His task to expand on his "dated" farm and machinery. The main goal of the player is to harvest his crops/produce and sell them in order to expand his farming enterprise (e.g. machines, fields, animals and buildings). The player is free to explore, grow what ever he wants to, and invest his money as it pleases him.Players can do multiplayer sessions where they farm together, though not on the PlayStation platform. There are Missions that consists of the player doing tasks within a time frame such as mowing grass or deliver cargo, then when the player completes it, he gets the base amount, then a time bonus.

The game does support mods but not 20 or 30 unlike Euro truck Sim 2 for example, it can hold up to a max of 500 mods a time though the loading time varies from 1 minute to 12 minutes depending on the number of mods and in-game equipment. Most popular mods are the ATV, Milk Trailer and Truck mods, Car mods, and even the Pontiac Trans Am 77 Special Edition from Smokey and the Bandit.

On sale now on Steam for 7 bucks. Recommended?
If you like farming, yeah:lol:. I shouldn't laugh though. I never thought I'd get into flight sims because the thrill of racing was so overwhelming and yet I'm upgrading and downloading like a fool, bought a flight stick etc. This little piece of kit might make it a lot more interesting. Wonder how the FFB is in this game:sly::

I'd rather this game had old tractors, like the John Deere 2630 (my favorite tractor of all time), but new ones are OK as well.

I knew we'd have a thread on this somewhere. I just picked up 2017, first experience with the series. Played about 2 hours earlier on and I quite like it. I needed a more relaxing game and this suits me perfectly!

Was watching sl1pg8r play it on YouTube, thought it looked like a fun relaxing game so I picked up FS17 too. Never played a Farm Sim game before, now a bit of a fan of the game, having a lot of fun !
Very in depth game, as a newbie I have an awful lot to learn about....everything.

Never thought I would be into a game like this, I guess I really did need a bit of a change in pace

I'm the guy trying to harvest things with the wrong headers and starving my pigs.

I work nights at work servicing New Zealanders and Australians so I'm at home during your night, we should play online some time I can come help out on the farm.

Hehe yeah I only just figured out how to restock the sower last night...It had been empty for a couple of days .
I haven't even got to animal farms yet, figured I will need a front end loader....Only just put the pieces of that puzzle together last night as well.

Would be keen to try online as the AI workers seem a bit....Stupid ! Only just rescued my plow from being driven into the river by one of my 'helpers' the other day too....He was miles away from the field he was supposed to be working on !

I'm playing on PC.

My helpers keep fighting with each other. Even when they're on different fields they still seem to block each other. The tree's thing is a real hassle just got the trophy for the "... jack" bit but I now have about 30 trees laying around my fields as it's so fiddly with the chainsaw/machinery to get rid of them. I got a woodchip machine that auto sells them on my farm.

Drat I'm on PS4, that's a shame :(

FS17 is an addictive game. :)

People may laugh and mock us for playing a farming game, but I don't care, it's a relaxing game to play and oddly addictive. Much like playing Euro Truck Sim 2. 👍

I've been mocked by every person I've told I play this but I'm actually having loads of fun and haven't played anything else since I got it.

Another game I loved :D

I'm in almost the exact same position as yourself then. I've had about 120 hours on FS17 so far and to be perfectly honest it doesn't feel like it at all. The time seems to fly by when I'm farming, which is crazy, I expected it to be about as interesting as decorating the house (I hate decorating), but I've enjoyed the game and that's the main thing..... who cares what others think. :P

Why is using a skid loader to load as many bails as possible onto an inappropriate sized trailer so addictive?

When that 10 hour trophy popped I was shocked, the time really does go even using farmhands.

I've recently started to do most of the work myself rather than using a 'helper'. I only give them the jobs that I hate such as fertilising a field which already has some growth on it, or plowing big fields.

I've been playing on 'real time' rather than 5x too, which does slow down the game quite a lot. I think that I'll try 5x again soon.

@Ian_83 I thought that if you use helpers on a higher speed setting it costs you more, because the helpers don't work any faster and the time setting means they take even longer on the clock to complete the task. I was under the belief they get paid by the hour ?
I have been running real time when I have helpers working, and change it back to 5x (or more) when I'm doing the work, or waiting for my crops to grow.
I am new to this game, maybe if there are more experienced players in here they can confirm if any of this is true or not ?

I think the time at least has an impact on vehicle running costs. Not like fuel use but daily running cost. I get charged about 4000 an ingame day for it. So if I put it on 120x that comes out like every 5 minutes or something.

I'm afraid that I don't know the answer. I have made the same assumption as yourself, the helpers are paid hourly and it costs more if the time is sped up because they get less work done per hour that passes. I was slowing down the time to 'real time' when using helpers.

I think that the helpers are generally quite expensive, that's why I started to do the majority of the work myself. I've also disabled the auto refilling of seed/fert/fuel by the helpers. I fill the machines myself.

You're quite right. The running costs do start mounting very quickly especially once the tractors start getting old. I purchased a new tractor (replaced an old one that was expensive to maintain), but the maintenance bill for the new tractor increased much faster than I expected and I basically ended up wasting more money than if I had kept the old tractor. :irked:
