Learn to tune and pretty much any car within a given class at a certain PP range will run the same numbers around the ring.

If you refuse to learn to tune, use the laughable cheese cars such as the NSX. 👎

I disagree entirely on your statement that any car within the given PP range will yield near identical results if set up correctly, this is simply not true. Not in my experience and from what I can tell in no one others either. For example I just used an HC Esprit (the 1980's one) which i obtained 550PP out of, with a quick set up of around 20 minutes i was lapping around 22 seconds slower than some other street cars i use of this PP value. No doubt I'm sure with persistence I could obtain a better time with the HC Esprit but it is clear that a 22 second gap is an unbridgeable chasm simply by fettling further than my initial 20 minutes with toe angles and brake balance.

I preceded my statement with "pretty much". There are exceptions.

All I do is tune and race street cars. All of my dozen 585 street cars run the same lap times around nur (6:35).

Here are the results from some of the 550ish cars I have in my garage. All are street cars and they are equipped with Sport Soft tires.

None of the cars was setup specifically for the Ring. So, with some suspension work and gearing, any/all would be faster on this track. But, this gives you an idea of relative performance in this range.

Notes:

The Lambo and Spirra were tuned down to 550PP exactly. Some of the others were a little above or a little below. The R33 was only 525PP, and the S2000 was 539.

Excellent list, thats a really nice reference, thanks alot!

You're welcome. (The PSN is down, so what else is there to do?).

I don't usually run street cars on racing soft tires, but many online races are run that way, so the times would be a lot faster with the tire upgrade.

Give the supra RZ a try, great engine note and tunes up nicely to 550 i would imagine, got mine at just over 500 and did 7.23 earlier with a couple of mistakes, still need to do a bit more tuning as that was only my 2nd lap. Also the Golf R32 is pretty good 👍

The Corvette Z06 is probably one of the all-around quickest cars at the PP550 level. Bone stock after an oil change and 50 miles should put you at 550 in stock trim, however I run Chassis Rigidity and Stage 1 Engine and have to run at like 98% on the power limiter to hit 550. Still, stock suspension and sports soft with only LSD tuning and the first stage drivetrain upgades work perfectly for me on a DFGT.

I havn't tried the corvette around the ring yet but when i have used it before it does seem rather forgiving all round. I will give it a try though if you assure me the pace is there.

It's been discussed a lot in the tuning forum and it seems that the honda nsx 02 is the fastest yet (with a good setup of course).

3 of my fav cars that come to mind in the 550PP class, Hondas NSX Type R '02, Honda NSX Type S '01( Mine has alot of miles so i can onli get mine up to 548PP, The tune is posted here in the forums. But she's my 5 speed overdrive and is actually faster and quicker then the NSX Type R :) ) and lastly the 300ZX premium. Has a higher top speed on the straights but is a lil slower in the corners compared to the NSX's.

for me its the RUF Yellowbird.
is the most fun to drive at 550pp.all without aids of course:)

i run 6'44-6'50 times on the nĂĽrburgring and it has fast acceleration and top speed.
so i can overtake at spots were other cars lack of power.

its all about driving with style ;)

Omg, you like pain

Hello, may we share 505pp tunes?

Lotus Elise 111R, 6:55s, could improve on this one, day 1 tune.
Golf GTI IV R32, 7:02s, meh still heavy

and I saw a Honda S2000 '03 do a 6:43....

Some pro advice. The m3 csl is a good car if you have the right setup for it. The corvette z06 is not a bad car to use, the same goes for the honda nsx. The honda hsc is a very fast car but the best 550pp road car would have to be the lexus lfa. My best lap time so far is 6.30.6 using the lfa

Reviving an old thread, are we? :sly:

While I'm here, would the Tommykaira ZZ-II be a good choice for 550pp?

I think so but I've never tried it. I'll give a go later today but nothing is beating my lfa. New record: 6.29:sly:

I always choose my tuned GT-R :D
My first tuned car is the Lotus Elise 111R, but later I realised how slow it is compared to other cars when online racing, then I switched to the NSX Type-R, and yet it still isn't fast enough for the online racers.
Then I finally switched to a GT-R, and tune it to be a lighter and less powerful car. Though I don't win a lot, I can say it's very competitive. 👍
The tune I'm using can also be found in my sig :D

(Sorry, but I forgot the lap times I got in the GT-R when racing online :p
but I can assure you it has no aerodynamic adjustments made to it ;))

A couple more to try: Fairlady Z Z-Tune by Nismo - Subaru Spec-C '04 (the standard version).

The Fairlady had some serious legs and corners well, and the Suby is an animal in cornering ability, but lacks slightly on the top end side. Both are very fun though!

the best cars to use at 550pp undeniably are.

in no order.

Honda HSC
Lexus LFA
BMW M3 CSL
Ferrari 458 Italia
Audi R8 FSI something or another (not the 5.2)

all of these cars are capable of running under 6:30's with no draft

i have heard the nsx's were fast, but i have yet to see even one lay down a good time yet.

all cars tuned at 550pp will lay down around the same time yes, 6:35. but these days that isn't fast enough to win. people are breaking into the mid 20's now.

at 550 there is the LFA then there is everything else.

Get your LFA(@550PP, racing softs, no tire wear) go to 24h nurburg and do 8:07.xxx

Best cars @550PP

Honda HSC
Audi R8 4.8
Nissan GT-R
Lexus LFA

But in the end it´s all about the setup that you have...

Racing NĂĽrburgring is not only about the best possible laptime. Often you'll start somewhere back on the grid and the best possible laptimes wont help you if you have slower cars ahead you can't overtake on the straights because your car is lacking there. The R8 and the 458 fall in this category, which often leads to drivers trying dirty moves in corners to get past.

The LFA on the other hand is super fast on the straights but slow in corners. It's easy to beat an LFA if your car is quicker in corners and fast enough on straights to stay in the slipstream and make the pass on the final straight.

So the best car is a compromise between those. From what I see the M3 CSL may be the best compromise, but I don't drive standards.
