Does the "honest" handshake mean anything anymore? Hate it when you get a weak handshake from a used car dealer, or one that has nearly broken every carpal, metacarpal, and phalange in your hand? Is it still part of your daily life as a gentleman?

*Firm Jewish handshake* and I will not accept anything else. A good honest handshake says alot about a person in my opinion.
 
It only has superficial meaning to me. A good liar can give a good handshake, look in the eye, and rip you off in one fluid motion.

I prefer a brief, firm, dry handshake.
 
I hate limp handshakes, though I agree with mile that a good firm handshake is no reliable indication of character.

Still, I don't form a good initial reaction to anyone with a weak handshake. Last thing I want is to clasp hands with someone's mushy, lifeless mitt.

On the other hand (ha.. pun intended), people who try to crush your hand with theirs comes across immediately as someone with something to prove or a chip on their shoulder.

As the thread indicates, there is an art to a good handshake.

I hate those stupid 'gheto' handshakes. They piss me off and they have no meaning. I just like "Normal" handshakes.
 
You aren't cool enough to do 'ghetto' handshakes. I think they do have meaning. An urban version of showing companionship.
 
A good handshake is a great first impression. Unfortunately, i often grip the person's hand too soon and end up phucking up.
 
I don't do handshakes. If it's forced, then I'm screwed. If it's kinda my choice, I don't shake hands. Feels weird. Sounds weird, even.
 
Shaking hands is a very strong thing. I always shake firmly with my hand wrapped around theirs and say "Nice to meet you" or "Good to see you again" before I let go. Not letting go before you finish saying your thing is like saying "I'm in control.":trouble:
 
The tenacity of the grip isn't that important to me, it's the length of the grip. I hate it when people cling on. Just grasp, down, up, down, release.

But there are some people who just hang on, even though you're trying to let go. I always think "Get off my hand, muppet!"
 
Nothing worse than the awkward, extended limp handshake.

Worst handshake memory - met the CEO of a company I'd joined about three months previously. Cracked every single knuckle in my right hand, plus my wrist. Hurt for three days.

Uh, no - this guy had the biggest chest I've seen on a guy. If the first shot hadn't put him down, I was dead.

You can't do that to a boss - do you have a mortgage?
 
no i said you should have punched him out, i wouldnt punchout the CEO, i would lose my job and get charged for assault:D.

i would have been pissed though

Also irritating are those chumps who think shaking a hand is a competition to see who can squeeze the hardest. In the end, both participants stand there looking like they are holding hands.
 
Does anyone like the two handed shake where they put their left hand over the back of your hand as they shake?

I like a firm handshake that lasts about three-quarters of a second. No more, no less.
 
a hug can be done between two straight guys without people thinking otherwise ONLY if it is begun with a handshake, and then use the free arm with a fist to tap the back and "hug". A The hug can last no more than one second or else it is gay. That's a man hug :D
