So, will Brawn suck now that their TD has left?
Apparently the secret of their success is actually one of their junior aerodynamicists who has so far gone unnamed, but is in line to be fast-tracked to a more senior role. The problem is that the other teams know who he is, and if he keeps producing work like whatever he did on the BGP-001, they could start headhunting. Brawn will probably do as much to keep this guy as they will to keep Button.
Says Piquet out to be replaced by Grosjean I believe
Afraid not. Piquet is staying for Hungary. Apparently there's a clause in his contract that says he has to have the same equipment as Alonso, and Alonso was running the upgraded parts for the Nurburgring. Renault won't be able to dismiss him until Piquet starts having poor showings in a car that is identical to Alonso's.

I think Piquet will stay for the rest of the season. While Grosjean has been impressive at times, he has also been not so impressive at times.

If I was Flavio I wouldn't put him in my car just yet. Maybe Flav will go crazy like in 2004 and hire JV for the last few races again :).

I'd give him a decent shot of landing a ride with USF1, given that he's already a known quantity in the states

Which might not be a good thing... In the words of Paul Tracy:

"I'm not surprised he's got the boot. The guy was a misery even when he had the best car and was winning everything, so I guess he's been pretty unbearable this last 18 months. He's a great driver, but I bet his attitude didn't exactly encourage the team to solve his problems."

It depends on what those parts are. I know they're getting a diffuser, but that might be all they're getting; then again, I've heard that they're getting Red Bull's Silverstone upgrade. But as Red Bull themselves have proven, the diffuser isn't the magic bullet everyone thought it would be.

They are getting the Silverstone update, which includes the new nose cone to make use of the new diffuser as well as the smaller updates and adjustments. Seeing as the Silverstone upgrade propelled RBR way ahead of Brawn (although conditions helped), its fair to say that STR should gain about 8 tenths from this update, but meanwhile other teams are also updating their cars and it may not be this much. Still a hefty update though and Tost increases his reputation of being such a douche to drivers 👎

Also, I reckon that mystery man at BrawnGP is the same man we heard from Super Aguri who came up with the double-diffuser idea.

Oh, and apparently Piquet's contract said he had to achieve 40% the results of his teammate (which would currently be 5 points). So far he has scored none and not got very close.

So, that means Piquet is as good as gone if he does not step up. And knowing Piquet, that's not happening.

Yeah, I don't doubt it will be his last race. Renault isn't happy with him and he and his father aren't happy with Renault either.

Thanks and goodbye!

In Germany both Sebastien Bourdais of Toro Rosso and Nelson Piquet junior of Renault drove their last Grand Prix races of the season. In Hungary Jaime Alguersuari will replace Bourdais and Romain Grosjean will take Piquet's place.

Confirmations about the driver changes can be expected during the next few days.

See post 64

And isn't Paul one of the most level headed and co-operative drivers going around.......NOT

It's a bit like the pot calling the kettle black ........

Sounds a bit like "Not fair, why didn't they pick me" syndrome.

Well, to be fair he did go on to say:

"I'm in two minds about this. I'm dreaming of the day that I'm able to give Bourdais the gears again but, like I've said in previous blogs, I will be mightily pissed if he walks back into a deal when I've been working my tail off doing promotions, and helping to sell tickets for race organisers, and don't get a ride."

Thanks and goodbye!

Hmm, in 2007 the same newspaper reported Glock being signed up for Toyota over 6 months before it was confirmed, so it might be true.

Come back to the IndyCar Series Seabass! I wanna see Paul Tracy kick your ass at Edmonton next weekend!

Not ture. Piquet has a clause in his contract that says he has to have the same equipment as Alonso; Renault cannot fire him if he does not.

not true....yet

seriously do you really think after they give him the same equipment he will be able to score 5 points? no and then hes as good as gone. im sure flav dosnt want him along with most of the team. so its only a matter of time before they cut there losses.

also after reading that its only speculated that that stipulation is in the contract but not confirmed. so for all we know it could or could not be there.

My point is that Piquet is going to show up in Hungary; Alguersuari is doing to be the only debutant there. I doubt he'll be able to do anything with it, but there's still that possiiblity. The Hungaroring seems to be his best circuit: he made Q3 and placed sixth last year (luck and strategy played a big part in his podium at Hockenheim), while in 2006 he won both GP2 races, took both fastest laps and landed a pole position. If he's going to perform anywhere, it's in Hungary. And for that reason, he deserves at least one last shot and access to the upgrades: he's got a history that says he can deliver something, unlike Bourdais, who has simply underperformed everywhere.

It was only the last race that Piquet didn't have the same car as Alonso though... ironically the only race where he outqualified him - although then went backwards in the actual race.

I think so, It was an emergency and Flavio's private jet could only hold 1.

I do agree with this comment though - For as much stick as I give him - he does have some skill - far superior to Bourdais.

Something tells me that Flav's Jet can hold a lot more than 1 of anything!!!!

I recommend that everyone start a different thread concerning each employment/unemployment opportunity.

One thread for all the information over the course of the F1 season is silly.

Yeah, but I thikn the implication is that if Renault are going to release Piquet from his contract, it has to come at a time when they have equal machinery.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about that one, seeing as Piquet is in the superior team and Bourdais has the superior career history. Bourdais has points, Piquet doesn't.

But, like I said, Piquet has a history of successes at the Hungaroring in other series, as well as some of his better results in Formula One. If he's going to perform somewhere, it's Hungary.

And like I said, I'm not so sure he has more skill than Bourdais, I wasn't contesting your point, hence why I quoted someone else ;)

It's interesting to hear that Loeb is very likely to drive the last round in Abu Dhabi for STR. Well that's what Autosport said.

Piquet had a lot of success in the lower degrees - fighting and matching Lewis Hamilton through all of them...

He's had podiums in F1 too... Bourdais has always been a DNF/lapper...

Lets see here:
Bourdais:
French Formula Renault runner up
French Formula 3 champion
Formula 3000 champion
4 times Champ Car champion

Piquet Jr:
Formula 3 Sudamericana champion
Masters of Formula 3 runner up
British Formula 3 champion
GP2 runner up

Which one was in a car that could score points this year, and which one isn't? Which one has points?
Piquet's single podium finish was because of a lucky safety car.

Good results of course, but the statement I disagree with is that Piquet is a better driver than Bourdais. Its close but I wouldn't say Piquet is so perfect himself. And to compare them this year is a little difficult considering one is underperforming in a better car than the other, they are both underperforming though.
Bourdais is a better driver outside of F1 at least.
