The only problems with the Avenger are the lack of a good engine and it's FWD.
I think the bigggest problem with the Avenger was the fact that it was marketed as a sporty car but was too similar to the ever-so more sporty Stealth. With the Stealth gone it might be much more succesful.

As long as they throw in the new "Phoenix" V6 and a 6-speed manual, I'd be a happy man. But that said, the V8 Zeta Monte Carlo is on the way, and if they are going to cost about the same, I'm obviously going to go with small-block power there...

Actually since I'm basically working for a Ford dealer and doing dealer trades for several others I can tell you here in the D/FW metroplex, Austin, Houston, and some parts of Oklahoma can't get them in fast enough to sell them.
Yeah, somebody mentioned that Fusion sells 15,000 to Accords' 30,000. That's not bad, and I wasn't aware that it was selling pretty well on the national scale. I'm glad to hear it.

If Dodge brings back the Avenger and make it look half as good as the previous model it will be a great car. The Avenger is one great looking car:
I agree. It was built on the Eclipse platform, wasn't it? I preferred the look of Avenger to the Eclipse, though it was bit off compared to the mainstream look.

the Avenger wasn't a bad car in GT2. Sure, it didn't have the racing mod, but it was a good Super Touring car anyway.
God. Another reason to dig up my GT2 game and pop it in my PS2! :D

Stealth was a really popular car around where I live. It's weird. Eclipse/Avenger, I prefer Avenger. 3000GT/Stealth, I like the 3000GT. :D

Same idea - but that's a bit too small really.

@ M5Power: The Monte Carlo still sells well enough for GM to stay in the large coupe business

You'll note that while the Impala received a full redesign last year, the Monte Carlo, its twin whose design was the same age, just got a minor restyling. I think that speaks volumes about the profitability of that segment. :)

The Avenger is one great looking car:

I had two problems with the Avenger. One, it was slow as hell. The V6 they used didn't produce more than 170hp, and it was heavy and I think all automatic, so the 0-60 time was 9sec or above for all models. And two, not all of them looked like that. The best ones wore those wheels - others (most) had hubcaps, and weren't as aggressive-looking because of it. I agree though - wearing the right wheels and in the right color (red), they were good-looking cars.

I agree. It was built on the Eclipse platform, wasn't it?

It shared its platform with the period Galant - I think it was a modified (i.e. elongated) Eclipse platform.
