Skidmarks and damage are the LAST things I want to see in GT5.

However, it's starting to sound like the single player experience will be cut down compared to other GT's, I so hope not.

wow, this thread makes me sad, for lack of a better word.

All I want to say is that the GT series has always remained true to it's fans. I don't know how many of you guys actually enjoyed GT1 back in 1998 but let me remind you about a few things that made it so great.

-LOTS of beautifully modeled cars, from different countries/eras/types.
-Great customization for each and every car.
-A fun simulation mode in which you build your very own garage.
-Lots of nice tracks.
-An emphasis on realistic physics.
-And all the little things that makes the series unique (like the licenses, events, car prizes)

Every game in the series (GT3 would be the exception) has improved on every single aspect and GT5 is no different.

As long as the series keeps improving I will be a loyal customer, all the little fancy stuff that other games may have is mostly just icing on the cake. 95% of the Gran Turismo "experience" was already there in GT1 more than 10 years ago.

Is it time PD made changes to their structure, perhaps leave the Japanease dpt. to car/track modelling, transfering everything else to a western based dpt. Or just bring in a western producer to drive the development, rather than their current role of simply localising whatever the Japanease dpt. produce.
No thanks, I think the "Japanese touch" (for lack of a better word) is one of the things that makes Gran Turismo so special. 👍 Of course the series isn't perfect, but neither is Forza - they both have their pros and cons.

I agree entirely, PD is doing fine. Even though they are missing some minor details, what they have done is phenomenal -maybe even EPIC-.
Oh, and if you are in cockpit view, why would you even care about skid marks and brake lights??
Quality > Quantity

I would drop GT in a shot if a better alternative arrived, I have no loyalty to a videogame development team.

I'm a car enthusiast, I compare a driving simulation to it's real world equivalent.

People who dismiss damage etc. as fancy extras are gamers, they talk the talk about wanting a simulation, but when it comes down to it they are happier with a sim-lite/arcade offering.

In the PC sim world such shortcuts aren't tolerated, neither should they be in 'The Real Driving Simulator'.

While they're at it they should give those who want it the opportunity to unlock every car and track from the begining, I've better things to do than to waste my time driving the same races over and over again to earn cash etc. If your a car enthusiast you don't need to be forced to drive low powered cars, you'll drive them when your good and ready, as they can be just as enjoyable as the more powerful vehicles.

To put it very simply, my "loyalty" to PD comes from the fact they have completely blown my mind with a game on three separate occasions (GT1, GT2, GT4) and GT5 definitely has he potential to do it again.

I guess you could compare that to Blizzard, the overall quality of their products over the years puts them ahead of the competition simply because people know the final product will be of very high quality.

That being said, I can understand that some people here simply went to the GT franchise to try out another racing game and that for someone who is used to play pc sim racers with spot-on physics, lots of mechanical customization, damage, weather and other details the GT series might seem lacking. But I would say that these people are really missing what the GT series is all about.

Are you for real? I would like brake lights to work on the car in front they tell me something. Don't care if my lights don't work( unless I'm playing online ). But I want the guy infront of me to have working brake lights it's not an extra but a necessity.

i think he wanted to say reverse lights, cause brake lights always worked.

No need to apologise, if night racing is included I would like to see reverse lights.

Maybe I'm a perfectionist but it's not much to ask, they have had long enough to get their acts together.

Ok I guess FPS games dont need muzzle flash right? And bullet holes in walls dont matter either right? I guess you can do away with the spectators in driving games too right since theyre not making any difference in your driving. These little things only add to the polish of the game and let you know youre playing a quality game.
Actually, I want the spectators to be gone during time trials. How realistic is it really to have packed grand stands while a single 370Z is driving around the course?

But just in time trials and practices, I'd like a cheery crowd that shouts my name while racing (even though I'm last):lol::lol:.

Yeah, sure! And perhaps if you're in a slow car race, there should be less people in the stands, and so on... ;)

Turn 10 should be very glad I don't have this attitude. :D

Agreed. Just because Game X does something better than Game Y, it doesn't mean that Game Y doesn't have any unique strengths of its own. Alternatives are great, and it's why I own dozens of racing games.

I'll buy GT5 if it's good, regardless of whether Forza 4 will be "better" or not.

"If a better alternative arrived"... the key word is 'if'. I cannot see this happening.

This all depends on what you want to get out of a racing game. I find GT unique, even when others are trying to imitate.

guys can yall cool it? yall are not spokespersons of the videogame. its not gonna hurt YOUR sales. btw he is gotta point. but i think the physics are great. About damage, the people that are saying it is not a priority because of idiotic ai are idiots themselves. Like real life if you change something has to absorb the impact by changing itself. E.g: God gives you breath but you dont have a brain. it makes no sense. i think kaz is smart enough to change the ai. god! im just 11 and it makes complete sense to me.
Pot calling the kettle black? You are no spokesperson either, so what right do you have telling people to "cool it"? As for calling people idiots...

Going by the terrible grammar and metaphor, I'm surprised you admitted you are even 11.

Ya, I meant to say reverse lights.
Sorry. ;)

Racedrivers go forward, not backwards. So reverse lights are not necessary at all unless there are some old DAF cars for some good old backwards racing. Thanks to a ingenius transmission the DAF has the same topspeed forwards as backwards. The video is from a 80's tv gameshow from the Netherlands.

About damage; it's done in many games and overall its wack.

Toca/DTM/V8 racedriver has left some good memory's; I spinned in a high speed turn and then get hit by upcoming traffic at high speed, race over. That's rewarding damage. Also GTA V has a great damage system, if GT5 has a similar system it will look amazing.

if pd is being dictated by american users then gt6 will have to have monster truck's. and full on drag racing.

...And NASCAR...OH wait..
I don't TC meant to stress just damage, because damage really isn't that big of a deal. PD has been lacking on the visual customizations a lot, and I'm a little worried that online will be like GT5P

I don't own prologue could anyone explain what the online is like.

Your worries are unwarranted the GT demo is fine without damage, is it not? Considering how much the physics have improved, imagine the a.i. Every series progresses differently and Polyphony digital and many other developers hold certain things in higher regard than other features. They've been making games for years, and understand game design. I'll leave it at that.

Currently I have been full on into FM3, so when I noticed the new GT demo on my PS3 I DLed it to see how it had improved since my time with Prologue. I was dissapointed, but I think I need to adjust the sensitivity of the throttle and steering if possible to get me re adjusted. GT has always had very high sensitivity in throttle, even achieving 80% of your throttle but only actually pushing the stick halfway up, now that seems to have happened with the steering for me at least. It may be just that I've become to used to FM3, not sure, but need to try again.

Basically I just had massive full on 2.5 turn steering every time I slighlty touched the stick, which created a crap ton of understeer, tried using less but it was so sensitive it looked in the replay as though the tires were going form full turn to 0 turn and back. Any suggestions would be great. I also agree with the basics of the OP's post, the things that are the most important to PD are not the things most important to many in the west.

Not good, not even decent. Its very slow, not many players playing, laggy, no voice chat, and PD picks all your races. Pretty much you have the options that you would have had on the Sega Dreamcast. I did manage to have some very good races, but it was hard to have a real close race since your car has a invisible box around it the makes contact with other cars about a foot away, plus the car to car contact physics are pretty much non existent, you cars do not react properly when making contact, which often ruins a close race.

yeah without a doubt visual customization is the most wanted feature but there are a number of features that we expect to have in gt5 but untill now nothing official like weather and customization(visual) but as a hardcore gt fan if it is gt5 prolouge with 1000 cars i will still buy it lol

Speak for yourself. I was under the impression that real dynamic weather was the second most wanted feature behind damage. Now we have damage, i would have to assume that dynamic weather is the most wanted feature.

Agreed. While visual customization would be a fun little addition, It's one of the features i'm least concerned about.

well i think weather is actually more likely to be included after all kaz said it is done but they can't decide to put it in the game or not
as for visual customization we haven't been hearing anything about it recently

Yep, I think there is a limit to introduce it into the game... It may be natural that they hesitate if they put it in.

the day a "western producer" gets to make GT, is the day i'll stop playing new GT's..
yes, we would get skidmarks, reverse lights, leaves falling off trees, those little air freshners hanging from rearview mirrors .. but we would also have a game that would try very hard to target a wider consumer base .. i dont know about you, but i dont need another forza or nfs shift
while i could pretty well be wrong, i still wouldnt want to see for myself.

My feelings exactly.
