Hi folks

As long as I remember, here in Genova the GT people have this little contest going on ...This week I took the lead :dopey: , but I'd be grateful for you people to show me how much I still have to learn :dunce:

Car Rules :
- GT mode, Trial Mountain free session
- 550hp ( 7% tolerance, ie between 590 and 510 )
- Racing Medium tires ( no soft or super soft, no hard or super hard ...nothing else RM :) )
- no NOS
- no hybrids or any other kind of cheating
- no wall riding, and always at least 2 wheels ( or their vertical projection ) on the road
- any car, any upgrade, any setting compliant with rules above

I find it interesting since the limitations should allow fun and competition for everybody, not limiting this to FGT/LMP/Group C Racers : I set up a RX7, my direct rival around here comes with a M3, someone else tried with a Zonda ... anything, as long as it goes fast and does not need RSS tires to stick to the road!

Other Details :
- I'll be updating the board ( at worst ) once a week
- this is a Gentleman's race, so please stick to the rules, everyone is capable of putting up NOS and RSS or taking the Minolta for a spin ... don't GO faster, BE faster !

No interest on this little challenge ? Nobody to make a little lap and give us some lap time to catch ?
... or should I consider this is a good time and there are no drivers here and around the world to catch my Italian fellows and I?:sly:

Hi Azevedojose - thx for dropping by and playing with us :D
I didn't know the X2, I'm not that much into American cars ... but I'm growing really curious to try it !

Hi Azevedojose - thx for dropping by and playing with us :D
I didn't know the X2, I'm not that much into American cars ... but I'm growing really curious to try it !

X2 is just Aquendwato's lettering for his cars :sly: There's also an X2R (sort of a racing version of X2) but it's power is around 670(ish) hp.

Ok this looks pretty cool, might see if I can chuck a lap in something equal or close as to the S2000 LM.
Maybe stock Nismo Z??
Or something....I will check my records to find something close, then I ll see if I can push it harder to beet teh S2000.
Keep the times coming.
👍

Hi Rusty*, and welcome !
Surely the Nismo Z is a great car to try to catch Il_Re_Delle_Fate 👍 ...

I would have to check what models / power to use,
and I'll surely need to train in order to go under 1:19 :dopey:

Hello there Genova Racers!

I thought your challenge sounds pretty interesting. I used a Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car '97 with RM tires and 580 hp @ 980 kgs. The car was pretty good around Trial Mountain.

In spite of my lack of the kind of skills that are available here at GT Planet, I was able to run the following time:

Mitusbishi FTO Super Touring Car '97
T-1=16.159
T-2=35.556
T-3=1:01.371
Lap=1:19.215

I believe I can get into the 1:18's with a bit of practice....but, there are at least 20 drivers here that could probably run well into the 1:17's or better with the same car.

I'll try another car I think might give that BMW M3 a bit of a fight.👍

Question: The Power can NOT be over 590 hp....correct? Between 510 - 590, right?

BMW M3 Racecar '01 473 BHP 1'18.036

Mazda RX-7 LM Racecar 534 BHP 1'16.731 under 1 condition.

You say road,here at the planet rumblestrips are part of the track.
So I had 2 wheels on the rumbles,if that is not legit please consider this time not raced.

Can you tell a bit more about the competition?
Very interesting, a race that is so long held.

Think the Ford Falcon and the Jaquar LM racecar will be winners.

Updated time for the Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car '97 with RM's and 580 hp

T1=15.988
T2=35.260
T3=1:00.956
Lap=1:18.947

Welcome to Gt3Emperor and sjaak68, thx for joining the challenge and thx for the ( scary fast ) times 👍

sjaak68 : I think rumble strips are OK, and I'll be glad to comply the usual rules on GTP :) . Anyway I'm not sure anyone here has seen under 1.17, with or without rumblestirps :dunce:

Gt3Emperor : "The Power can NOT be over 590 hp" is correct. On the other hand, I'm not for blind rule enforcement. You should not go over 590, but if your favorite and best driven car sports 592BHP it's still ok :sly: ...

I'll post later with more details on the history of the challenge .. I shall admit I'm not a "founding member", so I have to ask the seniors :D ... and I'll be trying the FTO Super Touring Car :dopey:

Thanks for posting our times so promptly... gz.👍

I hope you do get a go with the all wheel drive Mitsubishi FTO Touring car. You may be able to solve some of it's negative handling tendencies. It's got all the negative traits of front wheel drive, but little of the predictability of high-powered rear drive....most of that 580 hp is wasted in understeer and 4-wheel drift antics. It's quiet a handful.

The BMW M3 is a dream to drive in comparision.....but the lack of raw power is a big handicap in the last sectors of the course.

I'll try some other cars today.:)

Well, I've been looking around my dusty old garage for an antidote to neutralize the venom of that pesky BMW M3 and maybe something strong enough to tame that runaway RX7 LM. I need something that's strong, but quick with the steely nerve and steadiness of a mongoose.

My search leads me to a darken corner of my garage where a dust covered mongoose grey Toyota Altezza Touring Car has been waiting patiently for just such an occasion. It's not long before the dust is exorcised and the car is made track worthy. Although limited by its 5-speeds only transmission and a peaky engine, the effort reveals a true contender for the Genova title.

Toyota Altezza Touring Car '01/ RM tires / 560hp @ 1000 kg

T1=14.982
T2=33.699
T3=58.882
Lap=1:16.358

Now that this contest is no longer restricted to the peaceful sleepy confines of Genova Italy, who knows what international, internet-surfing, predatorial, glory-seeking, speed-crazed, apex-slicing, gear-banging, GT junky types might assault the quiet sanctity of your nice traditional hometown contest.👍 :)

P.S...I hope Genova has plenty hotel rooms, eating joints, Porta-potties and I'd suggest you lock up the 'vestal virgins'.

A sweet red, white and blue Nissan 350Z Concept LM Race Car '02 packing 533 hp @ 1120 kg was primed and ready to go.....so I couldn't resist:

T1=15.286
T2=34.008
T3=59.088
Lap=1:16.702

The car was real smooth and tractable with the good traditional FR power oversteer capabilities....I believe with a few more laps of practice that could be effectively exploited to allow a nice power on line out of turns and thus a few tenths off lap times.

ooooo...this is interesting. I think i will join this competition. Do we need to post a video of the time trail since i haven't seen others do so?

I think it's a racer's honor system in effect....but I always save my runs and can post replays if requested.:)

I'm not very good in MR cars, but I was just curious about this one:

Jaguar XJ220 LM Race Car '01 / RM tires / 578 hp @ 1180 kg

T1=15.807
T2=34.811
T3=1:00.522
Lap=1:18.804

I'm sure there's way more to be had in this one, but I'm not the man for MR....I need something I can hip-hop slam-ma-jamma......

hi peeweegary - welcome to the challenge !
Gt3Emperor is right, replays are not needed :)

I updated the lap times, and Gt3Emperor is getting real fast 👍
Last evening I improved my best time on the RX7 by 1.5 seconds, and i'm still 1.7 secs behind :ouch:

I also tried the FTO Touring Car, but I had that fancy idea of using it with the variable differetial, and making it behave as a FR car ... still I should set it and the car correctly, and that is really no easy task for me :dunce:
Does anyone use this device ?

for some reason the Altezza reminds me of DTM cars ... 💡 maybe I'll try with the Alfa 155 or some Audi ( I don't remember now if and how they fit in the HP range )

Anyway - this is spectacular competition :dopey: : thx to you all for the lap times and your help in keeping the challenge live ! 👍 👍

FYI Genova has definitly loads of hotel rooms and is willing to welcome, but ...
I definitly wouldn't mess with Italian 'vestal virgins', it's all at your own risk :scared: :) !!
( now if my girlfriend reads that I'll be in trouble ! )

Congrates on your improved time gz!👍 I see that you've passed your hometown rival.:)

:sly: Yeah, that Mitsubishi FTO is quiet a handful with that AWD pulling every which way and loose. I used the VCD set to 10% for my best run, but it still wasn't getting up off the turns like 580 hp should.

I'd haven't worked with the Alfa yet, but I'd imagine it's probably similarly evil handling as the other AWD cars.

Thanks for your challenge....I'm wondering who will find the ultimate car for the job? I'm going to try a few more later today.👍 :)

Nice times GT3Emp 👍

The wedsport has 592 hp without the oilchange.
I hesitated to use the car because if people use a oilchange,thus more hp, it will not be seen back in the replay.

But it would be nice to run it :)

I might give a try though tonight.

I would like to run a few laps also :)

The Wedsport was the first car I had in mind tbh 👍 but will try a couple of others also :cheers:

edit: I thought it was arcade mode cars :dopey: .. will have to look around now :p

I just loaded the wedsport in GTmode and with no miles on the clock and no oil change the car is 327hp add stage 3 turbo and its 446hp and stage 4 turbo whacks it up to 622hp?? ... how do you get 592 Sjaak? Thanks in advance ;)

Hi Mr P, and be welcome to run some laps with us :sly:

sjaak68 : do run the wedsports if you like, we'll just add a little note on the 592hp without oil change 👍 ... anyway this is a gentle-racer challenge, and I won't ask for replays :)

( I hope no desperado will come here and run with a Minolta saying it's an old Fiat 500 :dunce: )

Thanks, Sjaak68 for giving me a small moment of glory! But, I see some big guns lurking in the dark shadows around this little utopian Italian town, so my 'moment of glory' is destined to be short lived. But, wait....

This town hasn't seen this much action since World War II.....the line is, "If you build it.....they will come". Well, I'm digging in for the fight.....I've got a brand new car to make my defensive stand and I've crowned myself, "King of Genova"! "Long live the King!"

I'm drawing the line right throught the town square, across these flower beds, through City Hall, over the town fountain, into the city park and, uh....

"....pull this stuff down!" "Yeah, those cobble stones have to go....and the statue..."

Cheers gz 👍 Sjaak let me know on msn that my Wedssport already had an oil change so I went and bought another one 👍 and with only a few laps in it is a fast and very twitchy car but got a clean one to start me off anyway ..

Wedssport Celica '03 - 592hp RM tyres - 1'15.838

This car will run a 1'14 lap easily with a decent amount of effort :cheers:
I'll be back :)

Thanks gz 👍

"King for an hour" isn't that a song?

Anyway I put the dolby on for the Toyota Wedssport combo,feel and hear the car chasing down the road is cool.:)

Got the time down to 1'15.729 ,Edit: 3 wheels on the concrete,was a bit to hasty.

This 1'15.823 is cleaner then clean.

"The King is Dead....The King is Dead"!:ouch: That was the shortest reign in recorded history. And, if I don't pull some kind of 'Coup de grace', the town is sure to make me pay for all this stuff I've torn up.....but, I ain't no mealy-mouthed quitter. I'm going to fire a salvo of hot Japanese steel in the air and hope I hit something.....

Toyota Woodone Tom's Supra '07 /RM tires / 528 hp@ 1100kg
New Time (3rd edit):

T1=14.565
T2=33.031
T3=58.079
Lap=1:15.689

Good runs there Sjaak68 & Mr. P:tup:

I guess, when you're being out gunned....bring a bigger gun!

congrats on your lap times Sjaak68 and Mr. P 👍

and congrats to GT3Emperor for getting back the crown by the sword and on the field of battle !! 👍 ( ... just watch the vestals :D )

I just realized that this challenge came to GTP when I run under 1'20, and someone said such laps are made of sheer luck so any improvement would be near impossible to repeat :dunce:

Now lap times have gone down by 5 seconds :bowdown: , great racers from around the world came to Genova :cheers: and the crowd is thrilling - waiting for even the 1:15 to become some old, sepia-colored memory :dopey:

the thing that scares me is that all this happened in 1 week:scared:

I ran a 1'15.500 on the nose last night in the Wedssport but forgot to update :dopey: ( had a 1'15.3xx but with a tiny off on the last section :( ) ... will try out the woody tonight and a few others also :cheers:

Sweet times from Emp and Sjaakie ;) 👍
