unless they badge the topmost car as a crossover, it WILL be notchbacked.

Hey, I'd still love to grab one. But, after Ford yanked the rug out from underneath us with the Fiesta pricing, I'm a bit worried about what FIAT will try to pull with this. Its a nice car, sure, but it isn't exactly class-leading in all regards. Keep it well under $18K, and I'd be a pretty happy person.

I'm not surprised, but not exactly disappointed either. Chrysler just needs a nice small car so they can scrap the PT Cruiser. The Chrysler team was so inventive, they called it the Chrysler Lancia.

I'd like to see Chrysler do a reskin on the thing to make it fit a little better into their lineup. And have Fiat do the redesign. They make their cars look pretty good. But maybe they can get away with this thing as it is because nobody in the US has a clue of what a Lancia is, or that they still make cars.

While I'd certainly buy the 5 door, I think they might want a sedan for it to sell well. Chrysler needs a decent mid-sizer and I think this could do a good job...

Doubt it, because Fiat haven't designed a sedan version and Chrysler is only here to sweep up whatever leftovers it can. Only sedan Fiat actually make these days is the Linea which is based on the Grande Punto, not the Bravo. And anyway, it's replacing the 'cruiser which was always a funny shape in the first place

They have. They uh... um... got rid of a bit of chrome going down the middle of the grille.

See, totally different ;)

That'd be the 500 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), powered by the now defunct Chrysler ENVI powertrain. The black one, next to it, would be not just a 500 Abarth, but an Esse Esse version.

Yes kids, the 500 is that much closer to coming to America.

...I posted that exact news 5 posts before this and it got completely ignored.

That colour is stunning though, if I had to buy a 500 today I'd go for that in an instant.

Sorry about that Mog, occasionally the text just flies by when I read it. What is disappointing is that they didn't really talk much about the BEV or the Abarth Esse Esse. They were just... There. Lame. That makes me wonder if they're going to make 500 stuff official in Chicago or New York. Probably New York.

No need to be sorry, I just wondered if my links were working for others!

It's a pity they haven't hyped it up yet but the car tends to gather interest very quickly wherever it is anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I went to a food show that Fiat were at last year and they had a few 500s on a stand, they were getting more attention than the food

You know the dealers won't though. Brand new car on the US soil, that has a large popularity rating around the world....It will be just the like the GT-R. Arrive on the showrooms with $5K added on for no reason than to snatch more money.

Like the Genesis & said GT-R, you'll probably have to wait a year to get a reasonable price for one.

I dunno. It might end up being the same way for the Fiesta. I mean, the circumstances aren't quite the same, but they are close.

The price of the 500 over here has been rising steadily over the last year, even if you add on the VAT increase. My car was £9,500 when I bought it. The price now? £10,700. Sure, you get the Start & Stop as standard now but that's a fair hike. Paired with a long waiting list (3 months), used prices aren't much cheaper than brand new ones.

In fact, I'd love to be able to sell mine at the minute!

Is Fiat doing that, though, or are the dealers tacking on more money?
Honest question.

The only actual FIAT we're getting thus far is the 500. That will be badged as such. There will probably be re-bodied FIATs sold as Dodges and Chryslers, but that's about as good as it gets.

Non-NAIAS related news:
Chrysler may file a suit challenging the congressionally mandated dealer cull arbitration, reveals CEO Sergio Marchionne to Automotive News. Why? Because it’s just not fair that dealers pressured congress to give them a fair shake. Wounded by the arbitrary backlash against his arbitrary cull, Marchionne threw his head back and cried unto the heavens:

"Ask me what fairness is involved in all this. Why doesn’t anyone ask what’s fair to Chrysler?"

Can’t Chrysler just catch a break? Besides the $14b in TARP money, the re-writing of bankruptcy law to secure it the best possible deal at the expense of “secured” lenders, the $1.5b rescue of its finance arm and unwarranted endorsements from government officials, Chrysler hasn’t received so much as a kind word from anyone. Worse still, Marchionne only got the whole re-financed, re-organized company for no money.

When Lord? When is it going to be Sergio’s time?

Linky.

So, the government has the same pompous "I want you to fail" mentality as Philly a few pages back, eh? That, AND defending many of the dealers that were a significant part of the problem to begin with.

Honest question.

Fiat are. The dealers have to stick to their prices, which are displayed on the configurator from the moment they change.

If FIAT can justify those prices, and they seem relatively "fair" by comparison to other options out there, I can't hate on that practice too much. GM kinda tried to do the opposite thing a few years ago, cutting the prices of all their vehicles by $1200 or so to accomodate for a lot of the deals they had been constantly been giving out. It made their cars and trucks seem like a better value, and certainly made them a more appealing option in their segment.

If FIAT walked in and said, "Yeah, we're going to price the 500 at $17K FLAT, no price haggling or dealer markups," that'd be a pretty fair bargain. Realistically, it could never happen, but I'd give them a "Big Balls" award if they did.

Sorry for the bump, but since the news has been incredibly slow between the Detroit and Chicago shows, this is probably worth it...

2011 Dodge Charger Spotted - Looking Pretty Good?
Autoblog
Caught outside Chrysler's headquarters, this camo'd 2011 Dodge Charger is sporting the same canted and extended roof, along with a set of squared-off headlamps, larger grille and a more sculpted fascia. However, the extent of the exterior modifications pales in comparison to what's going on inside, with a new LCD screen dominating the dash and a smoother center stack. The new Charger won't be covered in camouflage much longer, so expect to see Dodge's refreshed sedan bow later this year with an all-new V6.

It looks longer, a little meaner, a bit more reminiscent of the old Charger Concept from many, many, many, many moons ago. I'd have a lot of questions about weight and power, but assuming that Cerberus was cutting corners big time during development, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I know it's disguised, but it doesn't look much different from the current Charger, does it? Regardless, I quite like the Charger so I'm sure I'll like this.

+1. Just looking at the picture I instantly knew it was a new Charger. Even with all the camo, it still looks almost exactly the same.

I'm hoping Fiat will have had enough influence by now so this car isn't just a continuation of the string of fail that's been coming out of Auburn Hills now...

Doesnt' look much different to me, either. I don't see where that awesomely sculpted '99 concept comes in. That was a flying doorstop with hideaway lights. This...isn't.

Chrysler needs to build something like this:

Just with less 90's design cues.

When I first saw that concept all those years ago I was quite impressed, but I actually prefer the production Charger. The concept looks rubbish forward of the windscreen.

We were still coming off the Intrepid cab-forward design trend, and between the Ram and the Viper, aggressive was the name of the game for the Dodge brand. I've seen the car in person, and honestly, it isn't that bad... It just looks like a poor attempt at building a four-door Corvette.

Hey, Remember the Magnum?
web2012-dodge-durango-1.jpg

So, the Durango goes bye-bye. They drag the Magnum name out of the closet to stick on a new full-size SUV. Hooray?

Because we all know the world needs another full sized SUV right now, ya that will save Chrysler.
