Lucky me, I never had to grind/repeat any A-Spec event until I was level 29. So I thought I could make my way up to level 30 with a few runs on Indianapolis American Championship.

To prevent boredom from those long repetitive sessions, I set myself the goal of achieving the fastest lap possible around Indy with a Nascar.

With some tuning I could improve my lap times, slowly shaving off tenths and hundredths of a second here and there. While not really fun, it was at least challenging and helped maintain my motivation.

I earned above 2,2 millions XP and levelled up (from halfway 30 to almost 32) only by repeating this event, which means close to 500 races :dunce: but now I feel I have reached my limit. I don't think I can improve much the lap times I've set (44.247 as best lap, 3.47.987 as best total).

Now what I'd really like is to see how fast YOU can lap Indianapolis with a Nascar. Post here your best lap times and best total lap times (pics welcome!) until January the 12th at 23:59 GMT. The 3 best lap times and the best total time will be awarded prizes. Evidence material (video or replay save) are required to claim the prizes.

PRIZES

Fastest lap: Any car* under 5,600,000 credits + 1000 car ticket x1
2nd fastest: Any car* under 1,500,000 credits + 1000 car ticket x1
3rd fastest: Any car* under 750,000 credits + 1000 car ticket x1

Fastest total (5 laps)
: Any car* under 5,600,000 credits + 1000 car ticket x1

*: Any car mean either a car from the dealership or the ucd. If the prize winner wish to claim a car from the UCD, a delay of 3 days may be needed. I will not consider silly requests such as "silver chrome Furai with 0 miles" and likes. I don't do painting stuff and I don't know how to reset a car clock in GT5.

I'm not the fastest guy around, I suck at car tuning and am a poor DS3 user. These 3 reasons lead me to believe the lap times I set won't last for long AND I WAS RIGHT

 HAPPY GRINDING & GOOD LUCK!

!!DON'T FORGET TO SAVE YOUR REPLAYS WHEN YOU POST TIMES!!

PS Mods, sorry for bad grammar use or stuff. Feel free to put it right :D

If you "suck" and are "using a DS3", then your times shouldn't be attainable on a DS3.

I call BS on this.

I fail to understand your logic. I just try to put some extra incentive here. No more, no less.

I must admit I doubted the validity of your times, but after trying your setup I managed a 44.768" in my first 5 lapper.
I've also done 500+ races of grind around here, but really only ever changed the Aero setting to do mid 46's at my best.
So kudos for a very effective setup, and even with that, your 44.274" is a very good time. 👍

You should have a competition for the ZR1 RM as it's the car most people use for cash grinding. It's not as fast as the LMP cars but it's the fastest, most affordable car that's also eligible for the American Championship.

My best is 41.799 in the Vette with a DS3. 3:35.852 is my best over 5 laps.

That can be improved if I could run clean and perfect. I could take another 0.300 off that 5-lap time. I try to go full throttle the entire way but it's tough to do cleanly. On a clean lap the car never goes under 330 km/h (205 mph) but unless I hit the apexes just right the car rides up into the wall.

Thanks man :D

By the way you just took the lead for posting your best lap!

I'll try that setup, even if it does look a tad weird.

Also, please don't advertise yourself as "bad"
You put up a lap time that some Wheel users can't beat. I tried setting the car up on my own and mucked it up horribly (because I normally tune for drifting).

I'll try posting a lap tomorrow after I tune up some more awkward drifting cars.

Thanks man :D

credit where credit is due!
Gone a bit quicker now - 44.586" with same setup. Now I'm toying with the tune a little, see if i can get some more from it. Much understeer on exit on T1, would be nice to get rid of that.

I know the ZR1 is by far the most used car for this event. But I like Nascars in the way they are all same and equal. Almost everybody has one in his/her garage, its rather cheap and perfectly suited for an oval track. No mods needed, just oil change for the first 5000 kms.

It's possible to go full throttle with my setup, but it took me some time to find the good line for the 1st corner. That nasty bump just before makes things trickier :D

44.460" with a few mods. Still not happy yet, but its feeling a little better.
The first turn is key to a decent lap. I'm finding that NOT reacting to the bump is faster. Instinct tells you to correct or back off, but if you plough through it, your line is not altered, whereas I, at least, tend to correct which makes me run wide rather than the bump itself.
Its good, your putting a little life into the grind ! 👍

This sounds like a fun little comp. I think I'll give it a try, maybe post some times tomorrow.

So true mate :D

Better make it in a big straight dive if you wanna floor it, but the bump swings the car a bit and makes difficult to find the perfect timing.

So does everyone posting their lap times here!

Thanks for your input,

Cheers

44.337" 3'48.267"
I've found a direction in the setup... I don't know how deep this rabbit-hole goes.....

Ford gt lm spec 2 test car ftw :P. want to say off the top of my head being that bob is doing endurance, 3:37 something is the average.

I ran some laps today. My best so far is 44.319/3:48.266. This really is helping the grind. :D

I should have updated yesterday but latest times are:
44.291" and in another race 3'48.162" (both with replays).

I did some digging and found a bit more, this is the first run I did with my new setup. 44.156/3:47.251(Replay saved) Turns out Tony Stewart is better at Indy than Jimmie Johnson. :)

Updated! Could you share your split times for your best lap + lap breakdown for your total, so I can put them in the first post as reference?

Thanks!

Whow, great lap times, I only got to 45'5~'' (as far as I remember 'correctly').
Well, best of luck to all participants, and to OP, great initiative!.
