No, only in a video. However, I have heard (in real life) an aircraft produce a "BANG" while crossing the sound barrier.

No. The "seediest" motel I've ever been to was a Motel 6 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina -- and I rather liked that place. :) Most hotels/motels I've stayed in are in the northeast (USA).
