>Ice Road Truckers?

>American Restoration?

>Swamp People?

>Dust Up?

>Trashopolis?

>Outlaw Bikers?

Now that I've listed pretty much everything that they show on History Channel (except for Pawn Stars, which is ok).

Ok is this the hill billy channel? I mean in all honestly none of these shows have anything to do with history - except for pawn stars - which does go over antiques (like stuff from the 50's). Otherwise the channel is useless.

Discuss.

How is American Restoration not history when they restore old collectibles? Or Swamp People how they show how people who lived in the swamps in the 1700s and 1800s got food and survived? I cant say much for the others because Ive never seen them but Im sure if you dig down deeper youll find some history in them.

I can't believe you've fallen into their gimmick, so they have an excuse like repairing an old car but half the time it's showing a guy with a chainsaw cutting it up being all macho badass. I don't care, because it's true. I remember when History Channel was ok. But now what does crop dusting and driving a truck in the winter have to do with anything.

Um that isn't the only stuff they show...

Agreed. Tank Battles, Masterminds, the Pacific (soon), Battle 360, Cities of the Underworld (love that show), and countless history related movies and mini series. That's just stuff off the top of my head and I'm sure there is much more.

Oh and Pawn Stars is a fantastic show.

The episodes of American Restoration Ive seen have them restoring old signs or coke machines, never seen them restore cars. Im sorry that they dont cater to what you want to watch but obviously they are doing something right because people still watch those shows.

Right now is Gettysburg, about the battle of Gettysberg, your forgetting American Pickers, And theres Tons of specials that are very Historic. (ususallY)

>Swamp People?

Some of the most uppity-up, sophisticated white people in my town watch this show. What you watch isn't always a direct cause of your personality. If you read most psychology books, you'll learn that correlation doesn't imply causation. I watch NASCAR and don't exactly enjoy fishing, hunting, and other "redneck" activities. If you watch the show, you'll get that it's mostly for comedy (other than the gator wranglin' segments).

Also, as stated above, they can't exactly run historical stuff all the time. At some point, you'll run out of relatively interesting stuff to air. What they do air that is educational, however, is usually pretty informative and gripping.

Just because the shows are popular doesn't mean they have anything to do with history.

I too wish that the History Channel focused more on raw history, rather than making these garbage shows that have little to no emphasis on history.

I don't buy into cable, as I don't believe in commercial breaks when I'm paying money to see something.

Having said that, when I do have cable, two channels I watched the most was History Channel & Discovery Channel. Outside sports. :p

Pawn Stars is brilliant. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it can be cheesy at times. But really, one of the best TV shows of it's type IMO, if not the best. And I love the "I gotta buddy who knows a lot about this stuff, why don't I....". Money in the bank. Absolutely. 👍

All those you listed are fantastic shows but the ones I listed were the ones that came up when I was going through my HD box (thus meaning the ones they show the most). If history showed more of that ^, than it would be a legitimate channel. But now it's like MTV. So in between all those shows they make you watch Ice Road Truckers.

I'm not really a fan of any of the new History series', what do you expect from a channel owned by A&E though?

One thing I will say though, every show they have is better than the crappy scripted spin-off TruTV has of the same show.:yuck:

Edit: Also, History has a spin off channel called History International, it's kind of like MTV2 was at one point and sticks to the main goal of the original channel.

History tends to show people views of History that our high school classes never taught us but they also tend to show the fringe to people as well. They show stuff about UFOs alot more now cause there is a significant american history with the U.S. government, other governments and facilities that have not been talked about on a large mainstream scale. History does a good job of talking about elected officials and informing the public about things they wouldn't have learned and things that our parents taught us about why they were so great, that those people also have some unsavory history to go along with them. History channel does a great job of questioning mainstream ideas about the past. Also where I get my cable those shows that the op listed aren't the most broadcasted. Hell Thursday for me is all UFOs on history and has been for a few months now.

Im sorry but the history channel is history and shows it. Its just you, the history channel is not for hillbillys. Whenever i watch the history channel i always learn something. And you guys forgot the show where they teach you about space

You forgot that Larry the Cable Guy show. History Channel has gotten terrible. They have no new material except those dumb reality shows. I really don't know who watches Pawn Stars or American Pickers. Those shows are terrible. It's the same thing over and over again. I don't need to know some obscure fact about American history, how much some random artifact is worth to a pawnbroker (someone who makes a living off of ripping people off), if you have an "expert" on Casablanca pinball machines (just an example), or if this toy car is one of the rarest of its kind. Ancient Aliens is the only thing remotely worth watching. I know it's farfetched, but it's interesting to see what some people think. They also actually explore history, real history.

This hurt my eyes...

When you quote me does it say "Green" or "Lime"?

This is "Green". This is "Lime" Green is dark, not bright, therefore making it easier to read. You may want to get your eyes checked.

Back to the matter at hand. History Channel sucks. I miss WWII in HD. I can't remember their other good shows.

The alien show is hilarious.... all the Internet Memes it has spawned instantly gives it a Troll Status.

I'm surprised no one brought up how they mention the supposed 2012 apocalypse in every other show as well. It's supposed to be history, not the very unlikely future*.

*Although Life After People was awesome on many levels.

Does the History Channel ever show stuff from WW2 anymore or have they gone through all their footage?

*Although Life After People was awesome on many levels.

This is so true!! Life after people was epic!!! Remember the movie? Oh good times...
The Pilot of life after people was a great one too :)

I like Histoy channel, quite a lot of good shows, even without the history connection.

But 1 program just gets on my nerves. Lock 'n Load with R. Lee Ermey.

The guy is annoying to watch.
