...I still wonder if VW will bring the Fox here to the US, with the fit and all. Not to say that the MKV cars arent great, but they are almost as large as the previous generation Passat both inside and out.

...I wouldnt mind owing a Fox again, I loved my '93 Wolfsburg. (not THE Fox I had blow)

It is nice but this is in no way a new concept. My dad has the same kind of flexiblity in his Rav4 even though it's not as big. It's irritating when car companies do that.
Yeah, my '85 Civic wagon had all the same seating configurations... (and they call this progress)

Japan's third-biggest auto maker aims to sell the Fit hybrid as early as next year for around 1.4 million yen ($11,790), or about 200,000 yen more than the gasoline-only version, likely making it the world's first hybrid to cost less than 2 million yen ($16,840), the leading Japanese business daily said on Wednesday.
The newspaper said the Fit hybrid would have fuel economy comparable to that of the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius, which the auto makers advertise in Japan as getting around 35-36 km to a liter (82-84 miles per gallon).

The most fuel-efficient gasoline-only Fit, with a 1.3-liter engine and continuous variable transmission, gets 24 km to a liter (56 miles per gallon).
 Wonderful numbers!

The Prius gets 82 miles/gallon in Japan?
Must be different testing methods. I just checked edmunds.com, where it says 51 city/60 hwy.

Japan must be very stop-go. That's the only justification I can think of.

That's AWESOME though. I'm loving the fit more and more. It would be rad if I fit in one.

Yeah, I keep saying that, but, it's true. Haha.

I'm glad someone brought back this thread because back around the Houston Auto Show, I have my own update. I may likely offer some personal pictures for the first time in a post edit. I'd just wanted to show off two Honda Fit pictures I took at the 2006 Houston Auto Show. When I got inside it, I felt like I was sitting in a very, very small van. It felt pretty nice. I like the Fit/Jazz/City very much. It was a tad uncomfortable for my skinny 6'0" frame (even though my own family's telling me that I'm getting fat), though. I'm not complaining too much. This is going to sell pretty well.

I respect both the Fit/Jazz/City and the latest Civic. I think they will appeal to two different types of buyers. One looks for function, and the other looks for a classic name better known for its civil looks and affordable price... which also gets negative attention as being a popular base for "ricers." The 2006 Honda Civic already picked up Motor Trend's Car of the Year honors, not to mention the Ridgeline picking up Truck of the Year honors by the same magazine. I think the Honda Fit/City/Jazz is going to get many awards as well. Awards by the media and awards by satisfied customers. Can't go wrong with the Fit, can you?

I was going to say it was due to UK/US conversion, then I checked and it works out as a US conversion... you're probably right about testing methods.

When I had some time with the car at the Chicago Auto Show, I came away impressed. The fit and finish was pretty good on a sub $13K car, and the seats were amazingly comfortable for an economy car. I also got a similar feeling to being in a small van, but not like what you would find with the Mazda5. I'm excited to go test drive one when they come out around April...

I just saw the Fit for the first time yesterday at the Toronto Autoshow, and it was hands down the biggest surprise of the show for me. Outstanding build quality, nice attractive interior, good exterior styling (especially when compared to its competitors), the retractable rear seats are brilliantly designed (it took my friends about 5 seconds to have them folded to the floor), and even without the rear seats folded, there is tons of space for cargo. Factor in the economical 1.6 liter, 106hp engine, and the pricetag of $15,000 CAD, and you've got a superb car.

Well, Yssman... You know the new Fox doesn't even resemble the original one...

And I really don't like it. I'd take a Polo over it...

No, I know that the cars are completely different. I belive the Fox was the replacement for the Lupo, no? So it's a sub-Polo, big deal. But with the extra-small cars begining to make their way to the US, its a shame VW hasent sent either to the US as of yet...

Thats good news, as I was getting worried that the car might be a bit too much. So it looks like a fully-loaded model can go out the door for about $17K, and thats a pretty damn good deal when you consider similarly equipped Scions that would go for a bit more.

I went to a Honda dealer today, hoping to get a test drive of Fit. They don't even have one. It's one of the largest Honda dealer in the area, but the salesman said that it's pretty much sold out for next month or so. :guilty: I thought they'll probably have a couple left, but anyway, since I was in the area, I thought I'd go check out Yaris at the nearby Toyota dealer(another big one). They had just sold the last one. Only test drive I got was a Mitsubishi Lancer ES.:lol: Car itself didn't impress me at all, but if you are looking for a cheap, almost-decent transportation, they are giving those cars away!

Here in Grand Rapids, I've only seen one Fit, and I have gone without seeing a Yaris sedan or hatch as of yet. Apparently they are pretty popular, so lately I've been looking for the Versa as well.

BTW: I've noticed the same thing about the Lancer. It seems like they have all together given up on Mitsubishi outside of the Eclipse and the Evolution. Fox Motor Group, the largest dealer network in Grand Rapids, just dumped their Mitsubishi dealer after five years. In all seriousness, they actually gave up Mitsubishi for Kia, making them the third Kia dealer in Grand Rapids, and the only dealer to have both Kias and Hyundais on the lot as well.

I've seen a Fit around here, young guy in it going way too fast down the highway.

What is it with young guys and thinking that just because it can be fun to drive a slow car fast, that you should only drive them fast.

Someone at my school has a Fit, and I’ve seen two Yaris sedans and just this morning one Yaris hatch (cute little bubble thing, if a bit goofy).

I've seen a Yaris hatch or two and only one Fit...

...on the side of the road with it's hazards on.

The driver was probably just suffering over-excitement from the sporty driving style of Fit and had to pull over. :D So far, I've seen just one Fit and one Yaris on the road.

Fit on the side of the road? Might be an AT... there was a glitch in early models here, where, if you installed any aftermarket lights or horns, it would accidentally trip your immobilizer... ...probably nothing more serious than that... there are no horror stories about the 1.5 VTEC so far as I've heard (and yes, I hear a lot of things).

RE: Lancer... considering it's a really old platform... even older than the Sentra you guys are getting (we're getting the Pulsars here, rebadged as Sentras), that's not hard to believe. That said, it's still a good chassis, and lighter than many new generation ones... I've heard the newer 2.4 Ralliarts are a sweet drive.

God only knows if Mitsubishi will live long enough to make a replacement... :(

Quite frankly I'm surprised that Mitsubishi is still around to this day. Most of their cars are boring, built rather poorly, and are underpowered in comparison to their compeditors. I would much rather be seen driving a Hyundai before a Mitsubishi these days, unless it is an Evolution of course, but their cars and trucks just suck right now.

They need to make cars and trucks people want to buy, and I'm sorry, but they really only have two models that any serious buyer would consider. Sure, Evolutions are selling like Hot Cakes, and the Montero has always been a strong seller... But seriously, did they actually expect people to buy the Gallant, Endeavor, Outlander, etc?

I agree. Mitsubishi used to make cars that I  over. 3000GT, Montero, Eclipse, Gallant, Diamante. Last decade or so, their lineup in the U.S. has been absolutely laughable. In my case, I'd still rather drive Mitsu over Hyundai due to the brand name thingy, but I do regard Hyundai quality a lot higher than that of Mitsubishi.

...Well, I look at it this way. If they were to build models that were set to a higher performance standard as they once were, cut the prices down, and offered models people would actually WANT to buy here in the US, they might be somewhat successful. I really did like the Mitsubishi of the late '80s and early '90s, back when the company had a bit more attitude as was not completely watered down by Chrysler. I still have fond memories of cars like the Eclipse Turbo, Gallant VR-4, etc, as they were all great cars for decent prices that turned the other Japanese models upsidedown in comparison.

Are there new versions of both the XB and Fit coming out next year? I heard the Fit was coming out in hybrid form, but didn't know if they are changing the basic design. If Toyota brings out a new XB, I'll bet it has side & curtain airbags and cruise control.

...I havent heard anything on the "next-gen" xB, but there has been a rumored Fit for some time, as a "replacement" for the Insight.

I did read about the Hybrid Fit. I'm sure it is coming out soon, but I'm not sure if the article I read was referring to the North American market.....

New xB looks interesting. I think they call it Toyota bB or something like that in Japan? I wonder if they are still affordable like the current Scion xB. xB's a classic. They should build it forever(and fix the location of the instrument cluster).
