As much as I love the more "humble" race cars that participate in the N24, that's a terrifying thought. Going by the article, the Twingo makes even less power than the Dacia Logan that's been running for the last few years, and that car seems to always get into some sort of trouble with the GT3 cars.
Well, only time will tell....

I had no idea.
  • The event followed the success of the Celebrity Challenge format, which had been held at Adelaide's Australian Grand Prix between 1985 and 1995.
  • The 2001 Clipsal 500 race was part of a similar concept, but specifically for a field of female celebrities.

The current iteration of the Dacia has 280 bhp but the original had 200 bhp, and the Twingo is just about guaranteed to be smaller and lighter than it was. Probably won't be any kind of a problem as long as the drivers don't do anything stupid.

It didn’t actually race, but this Dune Buggy almost raced in the 1970 Daytona 24 hour race.

It did qualify, but the guy who entered it was a Porsche dealer and the car had an incident with one of the 917’s before the race. He backed out of the race to keep things cool with Porsche.

I just love all that fun stuff RB is doing. Best marketing ever! Those guys definitely had fun. Almost mowed down the camera guy😄 And damn, that truck sounds amazing!

That is the most fun thing I've seen in a long time!! Thanks for sharing it :)

Might be a can't believe they raced it in the near future.
At the moment, the TCR-powered Speedcar is in its proof of concept stage.

The team is awaiting homologation and Speedcars Australia Inc to vote on whether it can race.

Approval and demand for the engines will ultimately determine its cost.

“Essentially, what we are attempting to do is create a more affordable entry point into the category that is competitive but does not make the existing engine technology obsolete,” said Grech.

“We want to encourage new teams and drivers – and potentially new fans – to the Speedcar class.

“The TCR engine is a production-based motor that is more affordable to purchase and significantly cheaper to maintain with longer service intervals.

“The car has been through a rigorous test program on the dyno and has already competed at numerous events with positive results.

“The next step is to have the regulations updated across the country that will allow it to compete.

“We have presented all the relevant documents to the Australian Speedcar Association and are waiting on a voting process for approval.

“We are racers at heart and excited to expand our horizons into the action-packed world of speedway racing.”

The 2nd car in this shot is the first Honda ever to race in the British Touring Car Championship.

The car in question is a Honda Prelude (3rd generation). In the hands of Martin Wray, competing under the Hawes Group Racing banner, the car started 2nd from last on the 31-car grid (notably ahead of Mike Newman's Sierra) and finished 22nd and last of the classified finishers. It took 3rd place in the 1.6 to 2 Litre Class.

(Brands Hatch 1988 was the car's only appearance so footage and photos of it are hard to come by, the following image is the best I can find at the moment)

At last, a real proper image!

This probably doesn't really count but this here was the last Toyota to race in the British Touring Car Championship until the NGTC-era. Geoff Kimber-Smith raced this Toyota Carina in the Production Class at Silverstone in the 2000 Season finale. He finished both races with a best result of 13th (5th in Class).

I knew the story of the Peugeot 806 that competed in the 24h Spa when it was still a touring car race.

But I had no idea that this VW T4 with a 2.5 diesel engine competed in the 24h Nürburgring in 2000:

He managed to see the checkered flag in 123rd place out of 208.

As what normally happens when I'm looking at something and then that something winds up being something I wasn't looking for.

I remember seeing a Corvair Sport Sedan in some old footage, but never saw it heard of these Falcon Sport Sedans. Didn't even know Jim Richards raced one(the #25 Winfield sponsored Falcon)! Going against much smaller opponent's cars.

This is more about the engine. Now the Motori Moderni-designed Subaru Flat-12 engine that Coloni used in the 1st half of the 1990 F1 Season is well-documented.

TN_Silverstone-1990-05-20-041.webp

What isn't as well-documented is that the Motori Moderni/Subaru F12 was also used in the 1990 World Sportscar Championship. The car using it was the Alba AR20. But after the first 5 races produced 3 DNQs (nearly 27 seconds off the pace on debut at Suzuka), 1 non-start (due to the engine failing) and being banned from entering at Dijon, the Motori Moderni/Subaru F12 was replaced by a Buick V6. This didn't improve the car's fortunes much though, it didn't even start a race until Canada and didn't finish until Mexico, where it came a lowly 16th.

So the engine still never actually raced but, unlike in F1, it did manage to qualify.
