It's not that far off base. Hell the whole thing about him wanting to drive for Ferrari made him seem a bit desperate. Imagine if he tried to pass Raikkonen and took him out of the race...

Wouldn't it make more sense to impress your future employers by beating them on the track?
And a driver that avoids winning is no racing driver. Fisi couldn't get past because Kimi was on the KERS button in the sections where Fisi had the advantage. It was also very clear at Giancarlo's disappointment after the race to not have won....

If anything, he would have been careful overtaking so that Force India would score points, not that he thought letting Ferrari win would get him a drive.

We came back from the ad break and they started talking about the next round of the MotoGP for whatever reason (probably because they're idiots), and when we finally hooked back into the BBC, all we got was the last five seconds of Louise Goodman talking to Jenson Button.

Just a quick note there, Louise Goodman works for ITV and not BBC ;)
Who you're hearing nowadays is Lee McKenzie.

I'm very surprised that other countries' commentary isn't as good but then I suppose overhere the popularity has always been greater because we've always had competitive drivers in the sport. Although, I would be interested to know what people think of the German, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian commentaries?

Well, we mostly get Brundle and Legard. It's just that the idiots from Channel Ten feel the need to offer their own material, which really takes the polish off the BBC presentation.

Its pretty useless.. i mean i cant even understand a single word they say!

I have a confession, however... this thread used to be something completely different, a redundant sticky in another forum. I removed it last year, but decided to create this as a joke/easter egg, and see if anyone ever found it... looks like no-one did!

Hence the edit tags in the 1st post 3 years after the thread was created?

I'm comfortable with our Varsha and Hobbs combo; David provides the color and insight, and Bob corrects him after it sounds as if he's knocked back too many gin 'n' tonics.

Plus, they never have to leave Charlotte.

Naturally I meant those who speak the language and watch F1 regularly.
I know that German commentary gets slated a lot, thanks to Niki Lauda's babbling. I've never heard comments about the Italian or Brazilian commentary though, I know Ivan Capelli does the Italian one.

It seems we get a little bit spoiled with the ITV/BBC, we complain a lot about James Allen & Co but in the end it seems we get a lot more pre-race, post-race and general content than most.

Does the Australian coverage provide free practice feeds? Do they cover qualifying in full?
What about other countries? Do they bother providing any pre and post race stuff?
I'm interested to know the differences from country to country.

I heard Varsha on Speed's online coverage of this years Le Mans 24 hour race and whilst he has respect for F1 drivers, he certainly doesn't think the sun shines out of their rear ends. I've got a lot of time for commentators like him.

I have the same problem when I watch Supernet GT racing from Japan on Justin.tv. I find it improves the pictures.

Reading the very first post. It looks like everybody who posts in this thread is an automatic member of The James Allen Appreciation Society
