The already well known Veyron Super Sports was unveiled today & regained the crown as the world's fastest production car by Guinness.

The official speed when averaged comes to 267.81Mph. But, here's a weird curve ball; all production models will be limited to 258Mph. Either way, what a car.

As production of the Bugatti Veyron winds toward its eventual conclusion, Bugatti has created what is likely to be the ultimate version of its world-beating hypercar: the Super Sports. Bugatti sent its official test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel out on Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessian high-speed oval with the first Super Sports to see just what it could do. With representatives of the Guinness book of records and German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) on hand, Raphanel made passes around the big oval in both directions.

With output bumped up from 1,001 horsepower to 1,200 horsepower, torque swelling to 1,106 pound-feet and a revised aerodynamic kit, Raphanel managed runs of 265.9 and 269.8 mph for an average terminal velocity of 267.81 mph and a new world record for a production car.

The first five production Super Sports will sport the same black and orange finish as the record car and all production models will be electronically limited to 257.9 mph to protect the tires. The Veyron Super Sports will be publicly shown for the first time at the Pebble Beach in August. Click past the break for the full details.

:odd:

First I've ever heard of this, but then again I don't peruse Supercars.net or any other informative database like I used to. Judging by this I need to pick up the pace again.

It's ugly, but I can't look away from it. It's mostly the color scheme...but it's attractive.

Somehow.

Umm... that must mean you like the Porsche GT3 RS with the same color scheme...:yuck:

I wonder if they'll adjust that power gauge from 1001 to 1200 now. :D

Can't wait to see video of the run.

Ha! So much about those one-off kitcars! Although.. I think that now it will run out of fuel in 10 minutes rather than 12..:dopey:

I believe Autoblog & 1 other have been the first to report on it. I really, though, would love to see what & where Bugatti improved on the Veyron to get to this point. The engine itself already produces 3,000Hp technically (the car itself ends up eating up 2,000), so I'd love to know where they've pumped out an additional 200 out of the massive engine. Would also like to know where Michelin improved upon the tires as well since they were cited as a major concern above 250Mph.

Aside from my somewhat general infatuation with the car, I'm personally glad it's bumped the Ultimate Aero TT off the map. I mean, I respect the car for what it's accomplished...but it serves no other purpose but to be faster then the Veyron. Like you, I wonder if the PAX's were improved at all.

They really ought to have removed all the luxury crap and made this one lighter.

Evo would be the other one - they put it on their Facebook page and blog yesterday as the press release went out (would have posted it but I was at a 4th July BBQ until very late).

Wonder if it counts as a production record if the car has been modified to do it? (shades of McLaren)

Sure... it was otherwise stock, but if customer cars are limited, then it's not the same, right? :D

Interesting. Amazing... but only because it's such a huge, heavy and relatively reliable vehicle... and street-legal.

Don't think they have. The production Veyron SS's will be electronically pegged to 257mph because of the tyre issues.

Did they need to create a new speed rating code for Veyron tyres, or is it still a Z or what ever it is for 300+km/hr?

The colour scheme kinda works but its associated with Porsche too much. I'm glad its retaken the title because the Ultimate Aero still seems like a kit car built from other companies bits to me and its really ugly.

I hope Mansory dont get their hands on it! :yuck:

Ah, now I can taunt Muscle Car fanboys by saying that Europe builds the fastest car in the world again.

Great to see, too bad they took away it's class with all that orange (I know only the first 5 will be like that).

Looking at it again it reminds me of an 80's style paint job, something you would probably see on a Hotwheels car!

I was also thinking, the most anyone managed to get out of the original Veyron engine was an extra 108 HP. If tuners got hold of this and managed to add the same amount to the new stock engine it would be 1308 HP, add all carbon fibre body panels and thats scary. :scared:

Robin.

I really want to know what it weighs. Please let it be lighter. If this was the original Veyron I would have been so much more impressed back then. 430km/h is a great achievement and well and truly outdoes everyone else.

I read on another site that was reporting this that they put on "bigger turbos" and some intercooler/piping work. It was very vague, so I don't know the credibility of that info, but that's what I had read this morning.

Ah, I see. So, these 2 runs were a bit of a risk-taker then on the tires & since they did fine, Bugatti feels they can run 4Mph faster.

Makes some sense.

I actually really like it. It's a stupidly fast car and it's now got a paintjob to match the insanity under the 'hood'.

This thing puts up videogame-style numbers and you guys want more. I'm gonna call "fast enough" on this one.

Well, come on. That many cylinders and those many litres, four turbo chargers and we only get 1200HP?

Even RB26's can output 1000 horses with 6 cylinders :P

This changes nothing about the Veyron to me accept now it's a little more ugly in my eyes with that paint job and slight bodywork changes(?). I've never liked the Veyron from day 1, I respect it's achievements but I still don't like it one bit. I just don't like most cars built by science to specific criteria, and I don't like the way the thing looks one bit. Add to that the way it's fanned up as the greatest car ever and it turns into something I really dislike.

I don't mean to 'troll' and try to cause a fuss as it often does when I say I don't like it to other people, I just wish to have my own say on it.

I don't....

I'm not following what you're saying there. That's basically saying you don't like any car for any reason - period.

And will Nissan warranty your imported R34 with 1000hp?

If it was pure horsepower they were going after, they would have had an easier job with half as many cylinders and 1/4th as many turbos.

Even RB26's can output 1000 horses with 6 cylinders :P
I can buy an old red block Volvo 240 and give it about 800. Doesn't mean I would be able to live with it.

Anyone care to tell me where they got orange from? As for as I can tell, nothing orange has been out of the Bugatti factory before this - and they seem to pride themselves on understated tastefulness (most Veyrons in the press were dark blues, reds and greys).

As for the car - I don't mind the orange bits and I like the revised front end, but I don't like the back of it as much.

And of course I approve of what it stands for - so all in all its awesome. :)
