I have just bought the Japanese version from www.asia-play.com I have a Sniper chip it reads all PAL and NTSC games perfect. Will it work on my ps2 ?

I had to delay my sleep!, I've just been reading about what modchips can play dvd9 disks, as far as I have read so far. Messiah 2, Magic 3 and Sniper3 mod chips all play dvd9 disks. So unless there are other unforseen problems everythign should be happy

I mean my PS2 has worked with Imported DVD-9 games in the past and I tested it with one last week to see if it still works and it did. err, I suppose that isn't good for you.

I mean it should boot into the game and not work if it wasn't DVD-9 compatible.
 
Hi me again 👎

since my last post I have tried several things to get this working

1, I moved the dvd level by 1/8th as suggested and it never worked ... all it done was make my cdrips not play and I never even touched the cd level ?? so i put it back to the original setting on the dvd level and they are working again ... thank god 👍

2, I took the laser from the Silver PS2 which is version 9 and put it in the old version 7 that has the chip to see if that would help by having a stronger newer laser? nope it still played dvd games with ease .. but no joy with GT4 👎 so I put it all back as it was originally and gave both consoles a clean and greased the laser poles, then at least something constructive had been achieved :dopey:

3, anyone interested in buying this fully boxed NTSC/Japanese version of GT4 can contact me by PM and I can have it to you in the next few days if you are close to the UK or even better living in it 👍 click here

Has anyone from Europe ordered a gt4 copy from playasia using a regular airmail shipment? Is it really 7 to 15 days or maybe bit longer?
 
Mine arrived bright and early this morning...

Sorry ot hear about your PS2...thank god I have a japanese systems so I dont have to worry about mod chips...
 
Ok it seems I was misled by the guy I bought the chipped console from :grumpy:
I was told it was a Messiah II, but I just stripped it down (which took ages btw with loads and loads of tiny screws holding the circuit board to the metal plates) only to find the mod chip is a Magic III vo v.7 :ouch: never heard of it ? but it wont play GT4 thats a fact for whoever has the same chip

Ok i'm gonna go and try to reassemble this mess :dunce:

I feel bad saying it but mines working ok...really sorry to hear of your problems, hope you find a fix! (or if everything else fails you'll get the pal version in the end anyway ) 👍
 
I just checked, to be sure. And my Ripper II chip works perfectly with DVD9 games. Atleast, that's what the specs tell me... *whipes sweat of forehead*

You got me scared here. But nevertheless, I feel your pain, it sucks to find out you're unable to play a such a great game on your console, after getting it :(

I think I got mine today. Can't be 100% sure because whatever I received was delivered at my neighbour's (I'm never at home during the day, don't really understand why I don't always give my work address as delivery address - makes mental note).

But that said, the only thing I'm expecting through regular mail is GT4, or it has to be a poster that I haven't been able to pick up from the postoffice for a few weeks now (sometimes they offer that one again).

It could be my package from Lik-Sang (containing a lost order of DDR Extreme, Lumines for PSP and GT4 Chinese) rather than Play-Asia though (one game which normally fits through the letterbox).

But last year, I received my Prologue from Play-Asia in about 6 days even, almost beating a certain delayed UPS order of a friend. :lol:
 
Still no sign of my two Asia version copies yet.

But I have the Japanese one, so bah!

Worked fine, there is a little lag on startup it tends to stick on the System Configuration/Browser page for 2 seconds and then it loads. Although that's exactly how Xenosaga loads as well.

Ok after todays horrible result with my chipped PS2 not playing GT4 ... we have ordered a new mod chip ( NEO 12 ) for our extra non chipped version 9 silver PS2 at a great price also, which should be with us in the next 3 - 5 days, I will fit this sucka into it 👍

I tried to IM you ewitspaul but contact was not online,

I will be fitting it myself which should be easy enough as everything you need including diagrams and wires ... even solder wire are included in the package 👍 ... should be a piece of cake ;)

It helps that I have been in many PS2'S cleaning them in the past so taking them apart and rebuilding is fairly easy .... but for someone who has never taken one apart I would advise caution as you have 3 or 4 little taper wires connectors under the PS2 laser unit that could come loose and are the most fidgety things to reconnect, so just be cautious mate ... If in doubt! ... get some qualified to do it 👍

Just recently I heard that most of mod chip's can't read duall layer disk but only some kind of new mod chip called Matrix....I'm not exactly sure.I will have to ask a person wich told me that but I hope you will fix this on some other way?! 👍
 
I have the aforementioned Matrix DNS chip installed in a very old (initial batch) PAL PS2 and the original Japanese GT4 works a charm. I guess I'm lucky though, because I got this chip installed over 2 years ago when I suspect there weren't many DL games around.
 
I have one of the first PS2's out and it chipped with Messiah, not Messiah 2, the first one!
It works on my PS2 no problem and has had loads of abuse over the years.
It did have some problems skipping on DVD disc, but I cleaned the laser with some whiskey and its fine! I would try cleaning the laser rather tha adjusting the laser.

But, this maybe be applicable in some circumstances.

I have 1 PS2 which I got on release day chipped with Messiah. Played CDR fine, was dodgy with DVD until I cleaned it, now fine.

Got another NTSC PS2 chipped with Messiah 2 that reads CDR fine but wont play DVD! Havet tried cleaning the laser etc yet.

I also have another NTSC PS2 and another PAL PS2, both standard, both work fine!

I'm pretty sure my magic 3 is version 7, but I think that just ment it works on a version seven play station, it was advertised as playing dvd9 when I got it. I installed it myself and I wonder if your installation was completed? you might want to check the underside of the circuit boad to make sure all the wires in the following picture G H D and I are connected. They are underneath the mainboard and I seem to remember they had something to do with dvd9

Missed postie this morning (Lik-Sang, free ship, sent 29th Dec). Like to think it's waiting at home, but from what you say b0bb1ns I reckon I've still got to wait :(
 
To add to the stats, I ordered mine on lik sang (way before xmas), it was shipped dec 29 and delivered (to Milan, Italy) the morning of Dec 31 via DHL. NO custom taxes paid.

I always recommend DHL over UPS for Europe if you have the choice as they seem to avoid the customs a lot more easily. UPS never fails to make me pay and delay the delivery (plus I reckon they did not deliver parcels at all on dec 31st).
