Watching this for the first time in many many years with my poorly toddler and seeing Willow Springs & Laguna Seca made me think of GT6. The clincher for me was the way Herbie goes from back of the race to the front in 1 lap against superior machinery.

David Tomlinson as Thorndyke is fantastic, seeing the front half on RR car propelling itself is hilarious and the non-Herbie cars are utter classic car porn.

I love The Love Bug. I actually pop in the DVD quite often just to see all the old cars, and have recreated many of them in Forza 4. Willow Springs especially makes me think of GT6... Actually, it's the other way around. When I see Willow Springs in GT6, I think of The Love Bug.

You are very correct regarding David Tomlinson. He is absolutely brilliant as Throndyke... If you tell me the bubbles tickle your nose, I shall probably kill you!

I loved "The Love Bug" as a kid. I still do, though I have not seen it in years (I have had some trouble finding it on DVD). My brother, sister and I always got a video as a gift on our birthdays, and we always sat down and watched the film together. "The Love Bug" was one of the first live-action films I saw - possibly *the* first - on my eighth birthday, and I have never had an experience like it since. I'm an English teacher, and film is my favourite unit within my subject area. I've long felt that my love of film came from "The Love Bug". If I was a racing driver, my racing number would probably be #53 because of the film (or #71, because I think the SR-71 Blackbird is a brilliant piece of engineering).

A great great film! I'm going to have to go and watch it again :D

For me another incredible car film was Condorman. The film was awful, but I was already a bit keen on Porsches (in fact all cars) and the black 911s of the bad guys were incredible.

I learnt that you should never meet your heroes when I stood on tiptoes to look through the window of Condorman's car at the Birmingham Motor Show. It just had a speedo and a rev counter, no space-age-light-up-plastic-buttons or anything! :)

GT6 connection... well, I still always have a black 911 ;)
