A guy modifies a car to make it faster, and more rare.
I don't see the owner of said car being luckier than Mr.Alkemade


Wouldn't this go in the rare sales thread or something?
 
That's pretty awesome! I didn't read the entire thread but I hope this car actually gets driven rather than becoming a garage queen.
 
I'd rather it be a garage queen. I'd be too scared to drive something that rare.

It was meant to be driven, not stored in a climate-controlled garage. I'd say drive and enjoy the hell out of it. Get out there and share it with the world.

So? It was meant to be driven 45 years ago. It's rare enough today that I wouldn't want to take the chance and wreck it. The odd car show maybe, but that's it.

Agreed. I feel the same way about people who collect video games, cars, or anything else. Games were meant to be played, cars were meant to be driven, comic books were meant to be read, etc.
 
And what happens when they are all worn out and unusable? Then there's no prime examples left now is there...

As long as you maintain them properly, I say all is good. Sure accidents will always happen but as a classic car fan I'd rather see an original Cobra wrapped around a tree or crashed in a tire wall then left to rot in a museum.

Except, cars can be rebuilt. Comic books, gaming items, newspapers, stamps, they all can be used until they are unusable and cannot be repaired, cars, on the other hand are a different story. As long as there is enough knowledge of the car, it can be rebuilt to new again.
 
I'm all for driving classics daily but there is a fine line that needs to be drawn. Speciality cars like this and one-offs are off limits.

Knowledge isn't everything. You can have all the knowledge you want for one car but it doesn't do you a damn bit of good if you can't get anything for it. Parts availability is vital. Rare parts like numbers matching crankshafts and intake manifolds cannot be reproduced.

Still, both are a sad death. No love in a museum or no recognition in the dump, pick your poison, sadly.

But what if it isn't going to be a #'s matching car. That would be great and I wish older cars were never taken apart, but in most times, that isn't the case.

Then what's the point of calling it a COPO Camaro then? I get what you are saying, but that drives me nuts when people to do that to cars like those (regardless of parts availability) to cars like it and the Boss 302.

I see where you are going to. I want the cars to be like they were from the factory even if it isn't all matching. Like the COPO, I'd like them to put a 500 HP 427 back in it, not necessarily the original one put in the car in 1969 but another 500 HP 427.
