So I'll be performing my annual, ritual pilgrimage to the Miami Beach convention center to drop off some cocaine attend the Miami auto show. Should be pretty neat. I'll try to get lots of pics. New Escalade is debuting here, and they also have the new Maser Ghibli. Figured I'd make this thread in case anyone wanted me to get pictures or info on anything specific. Here's the floorplan of attending marques:

If they're on the floor, I'd be happy to explore the cars and try to answer some of your questions, concerns, or curiosities. Just don't ask me to ignite a Tesla.

And now for a neat time-lapse from last year. (Nissan's exposition was totally stupid.)

:lol::lol: You meeting up with Tony Montana or the Diaz Brothers ?

Just don't ask me to ignite a Tesla.

You sure know how to take the fun out of everything.

Have fun and take lots of pics.

Convertibles and girls with beach tanktops and hoochi shorts. Didn't take too many pics. Was more interested in sitting in things and trying stuff out. I'll share my notes when I get home.

Will be back later in the week though. The place was slammed with kids since there's no public school tomorrow. Naturally, they were all over the cars. I don't like to take pictures with children in them, especially if I'm going to publish them on the web.

I'd like to know, once you've done the whole thing thoroughly, what cars stand out to you and what cars surprised you. I always feel like there are a few surprises, cars you didn't expect to like or liked until you sat in them.

@Omnis

Your allowed to take (1) car from this show and drive it for a year ... absolutely free of charge, no gimmicks, no strings attached, no nothing, just drive it. What would it be ?

If free of charge includes insurance and energy/fuel costs, I'll take the F12 Berlinetta. Otherwise give me a P85 Tesla and a supercharger install (still don't want to pay that insurance)

I think the best bang for your buck for a large, non-hybrid car is still a used G8, if you can find one.

I will have price bracket winners later on when I get home.

Was particularly impressed with Mazda and Cadillac. The Accord Hybrid was also very good. If the seat went back a bit more in the Honda, it'd be perfect. It might be the next car we buy anyway.

Mazda takes top honors for most comfortable drivers seat. It's positioned fantastically well. The Tesla seats were also superb, although the rest of the car felt like Ikea motors.

More notes to come later-- dinner time.

Holy crap am I a slacker. The 2014 show is already upon us. I will be in Miami Beach tomorrow at the convention center. Pray for me that the Wednesday show is slow, boring, and not filled with kids, douchebags, or hoochies. I'll tell you one thing, though. The organizers of this thing are a pack of rotten assholes. They doubled ticket prices and halved the discount coupon. Jerks.
Also, I missed the Ride & Drive events. Nice. Who knew that they'd only be on the weekends. That kinda blows.

News:

We here in Miami got to debut special... Fiats.

500Ls... that's right: special, large Fiat 500s with extra space built for Brazilians to haul around their cash. Word is there's also a Pagani Huayra at this show. Huay to go!

I don't really care so much about taking photos as I do about sitting in lots and lots of cars and testing how freakin' obese swole I am. That said, I'm planning to bring my Fuji for some better photos.

So what cars are out there that have seen significantly upgraded interiors or are worth my consideration? I'm definitely planning to check out the new FCA cars. The new interior in the scat pack challenger looks interesting. Also, 500 horsepower. Then there's 2015 Mustang. And new Genesis too.

Any others?

Oh man. Anyone in Florida... Don't go to the show. It is a complete ripoff. It's a total cock tease. All the interesting cars are out of reach on a pedestal or locked up. Jaguar did have unlocked F types though. Interesting car. Pedal box is quite cramped though. The highlight of my night was speaking with one of the Jaguar reps. Her name was Lorraine, and she actually used to be a QVC model. Talked about a lot of things, including the upcoming XE. She says they have a surprise for LA. It was so nice talking to someone intelligent with a great voice, not to mention tall and beautiful. Google her. Hate listening to these girls with these crackly Valley girl voices. And my neck hurts looking 4 footers in the eye.

So I'll go through the show each exhibit at a time, starting from Ram in the bottom right and going up to the far end of the hall, then left one and back to the near end of the hall until I've hit all the marques.

Ram: Nothing really new here. Promaster looks great in person. Looks to easily be the best of the large workvans. Transit was not present, however.

Jeep: Everything sucks except Renegade. Renegade looks like it could be a hit for Jeep. Too bad it was stuck on a pedestal where NOBODY paid it any attention. It should have been on the floor instead of the fugly Cherokees.

VCG6hMq.jpg

Y U NOT ON FLOOR?!

Dodge: Alright! This was the first interesting thing. New Challenger interior, new Charger... Oh wait-- where's the Charger? THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CHARGER ON THE FLOOR! But there was this darn thing...

x6aEO6i.jpg

Look at those curves

They brought a Hellcat, but they put the pussy on a pedestal...
I'll give FCA credit where credit is due: they always have the youngest, most smokin' booth babes.

Here's some more porn... (of the engine variety)

iCBlPXH.jpg

It's a HEMI and it'll give you a STEMI

Also, did they change the Dart interior at all? It's a lot better than I remember. Seats are pretty good for the segment, and my leg rests nicely on the contoured sides of the console.

pPPS7Pb.jpg

Legcellent

QcIqzZs.jpg

Kneervana

Remember: 6'4" Size 16 4Es up in the pedalbox. This will give me some problems later.

Challenger was improved greatly but still suffered from a leg area and terrible seats. The seats felt like I was sitting on a roll of carpeting. The suede/felt material is terrible and there's a very noticeable bump down the middle of the seat and seatback. It feels just like sitting on a rolled up rug.

Chrysler: Nothing new besides the 200. Not crazy about the 300. The seats are mushy and awful. Reminds me of the first Genesis mixed with Lincoln Town Car. The 200 seems nice but then you get in it and slam your knee on the AWFUL center console. This thing is so huge and stupid. It's completely in the way of your existence. It's like, "I'm the CENTER CONSOLE! I'm the center of attention here! HELLO! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION TO ME?!"

EU8zfSa.jpg

Knee cancer in the making

DFWZRbo.jpg

The console is a face. Its knobs are two eyes and a nose. The parking brake is its open mouth shouting, "HEY LOOK AT ME!"

I honestly don't understand how anyone could drive this thing. It hurts to sit in the driver's seat with your leg against the console. Just look at it bludgeoning my tibiofibular joint.

Fiat: Oh, look! 500s and 500Ls. I opened the door to an Abarth 500 and began ingress before absolutely smashing my knee right into the gearshift console. Oh my god did that hurt. I'm pretty sure FCA hates knees. I think they don't want people to be able to walk to the other brands' exhibits. The 500 is small and terrible. It's the car version of one of those awful euro washing machines that only uses a cup of water per cycle and only fits 5 pairs of underwear and a sock per load.

Then there's the 500L. Who the hell thought of this thing? I got inside and the windshield is so tall and far away that it feels like you're at the Georgia Aquarium. It's like driving a bus. You could build a 1/8th scale replica of Radio City Music Hall on top of the dashboard. The rest of the car is pointless and stupid. Buy a Jeep Renegade instead.

Memory Lane: Some cool classics. Nothing you guys haven't seen before. Anyone know what this thing does on this old Buick?

9wL4dCJ.jpg

Wot iz dis?

Looks like some kind of pump with a hose attached. There was only one hose attached to it though.

Topless In Miami: Convertibles. F-type. Very narrow inside for such a wide car. The interior has all the charming amenities of a standard-mill kayak. Coupe felt like it had more headroom. The drop top made me uneasy. Also, **** you guys that say you're over 6 feet tall and fit in a Miata. There is no way.

WYZF1Ex.jpg

"Yeah, but there's no room for my helmet."

8czILlA.jpg

Category: Cars in which you practically sit indian style. The answer is always Miata.

1ncMfI1.jpg

No room to operate pedals. Left foot won't rest on dead pedal without hitting clutch.

pFfbqxr.jpg

Console shunted my leg left. I shall call it Pastor Maldonado.
XXltzxb.jpg

Hey, there. It's a Jagggg

Also, they had this lady dressed like a hoochie working the attraction. I felt bad for her-- she was such an attractive girl and she had legs for miles, but they put her in these huge high heels and this hoochie outfit with her ass and tits hanging out. She did not fit in with the rest of the well-dressed promotional models. You can tell that whole deal was organized by some Miami scumbag.

That's the first column of the show floor. More to come later, beginning with Kia.

Dear Lord... those legs... all that hair...

Since you asked in the other thread... that's clearly not a mechanical speed sensor. Rather, it's a primitive wheel sensor whose pneumatic output shaft is connected to a Babbage antil-lock brake computer. Pull the punch card when you want to deactivate ABS for track work.

Good god, I miss auto shows. They're so predictably awful, and by awfully predictable, I mean I feel like a twelve-year-old who still thinks a Ferrari Testarossa or Lamborghini Countach is a wonderful and plausible first car for a lower-middle-class suburbanite.

:D It's still too hot to wear long pants. That November weather, you know.

Come on now. It's a speedometer. Although it would be cool if it were some kind of abacus-based rube goldberg ECU sensor.

Continuing...

Kia: Same old stuff, except for the new K900 and Sedona. The Sedona is AWESOME! It has recliners!

8XTXr2g.jpg

Drive yourself to soccer practice, kid. I'll be back here.

It's really a great setup. Equus comfort in a minivan. Too bad you lose a lot of utility for the ability to lounge. But it's worth it. I just don't understand why they use such a gas hog V6. Why can't they put the turbo 4 in the minivan? It only gets 19mpg which is terrible. What they ought to do is make a system like the Honda Accord Hybrid. You have a whole floor for battery space, and you can put a huge electric motor in there for all the grunt work.

The K900 is alright, but I still prefer Genesis/Equus. Was also impressed with the Forte 5 SX. Wish I could get a Forte 5 with the Ecoboost 1.0L. Otherwise I think I'd rather have the GTI.

Chevy: Same old crap. They brought the ZO6 and the Z28 though, as well as the new Colorado. Let's do trucks first.

I was super impressed with the Colorado. It's HUGE on the inside.

0QnWfdz.jpg

It's got technology and stuff. Legroom for days.

The seat extends back into the next area code. This is the car for you if you're a 7-footer. Much more room than a Silverado. Was also impressed with the simplicity of everything. It's well laid out. Seems like a good truck and it should be a hit. They ought to lower it and give it a car suspension and an LS7.

The SUVs and Silverado are still boring and meh. The only thing they have going for themselves is that they're absolutely enormous. If you're always crashing into everything or feel that you need to be surrounded by a few extra thousand pounds of steel, you'll want one of these.

I was disappointed that they didn't have the SS in attendance. What's the deal? Is that car dead now?

Z/28 was absolutely ridiculous. Look at these tires:

SwWfllhl.jpg

$2000 every 3 months. Good luck in the rain.

I can see how it would make a good track car though. Assuming the tires stay in place on the rim, anyway.

Blah, blah, ZO6 cocktease, blah, blah.

jQycyGU.jpg

"Sorry, fingerprints affect resale value."

More later.

Come on now. It's a speedometer. Although it would be cool if it were some kind of abacus-based rube goldberg ECU sensor.

Now you've got me thinking of how this steampunk ABS would work... gear drives a pneumatic accumulator that pushes the friction brake assembly closer to the wheel. Pressure dies out with wheel locked, the assembly is pushed away from the wheel by a spring. More pedal travel is needed to keep the friction brake locked, but since pedal travel is limited by the other three brakes still being active, that particular brake unlocks, the pressure builds back up and the assembly moves closer to the wheel again, allowing braking to resume.

If all four tires lock, all assemblies move away from the wheels, the pedal sinks a bit further to the floor, but all four brakes work at stopping the car.

Now all I have to do is travel back to the 19th Century and patent all of that, and I'll be rich. :D

Your F-Type photos are telling me I have to make my MX-5 photoshop roof even taller to fit you.

Well it's weird because headroom was just fine in the coupe. Legroom was OK too... just really narrow. I'd need to drive it in socks because my shoes are too wide to not catch on pedals, or on the arms attached to the pedals. (There was a car-- can't remember which-- that had the brake pedal arm bend towards the gas so that both arms were next to eachother at the hinge. Guess what? Every time I stepped on the gas, I stepped on the brakes too. )

Bet heavens to betsy that the Coupe's seats are lower set.

And... yup:

2015-jaguar-f-type-coupe-convertible-top.jpg

Roof peaks about half an inch higher than the convertible... according to Jag's spec sheets... though I don't know if the vert's height numbers include the top up or not. But that wouldn't be enough to make you fit. From the photos, it seems like the seats are two or three inches lower, and they're probably angled further back to increase virtual vertical space.
