Just been calculating how much this damn GT4 has cost me.. This is crazy, but thought I would share my cost's with you all...

1) Bought Logitech DFP, August 2004 = £110
2) Bought GameRacer Pro December 2004 = £300
3) Had my PS2 Chipped with Ripper3 chip = £40
5) Bought Asian version of GT4 off eBay. £63

Total cost = £513.00

Crazy money for one game. Was it worth it.. Oh HELL YES!!! :sly:

Yeah, it's sad in a way... the only reason I have a PS2 is for the Gran Turismo series. GT3 is my only game for that system. Soon to add GT4 and some accessories...

- PS2 [$250]
- GT4 [$50]
- DFPro [$140?]
- GameRacer Club [$400]
- Component and optical cables for PS2 [$50?]

Total just for GT4 = $890

Could add a lot more if you count the receiver/speakers and HDTV, but those are used for other things too.

Edit - I figure it's worth it, I get decent driving/racing thrills for far cheaper than the real thing. It would be pretty easy to spend $900 on just tires and entry fees for one year of the real deal with an inexpensive car. That doesn't count other consumables like brake pads, fluids, engines...

Wow .. Hundreds of dollars for GT4 .. hmm

I would rather just sit on the couch with a DS2 playing GT4 than spend all that money on it. Maybe thats just because I don't have that money to spend on it, seeing as how college makes you go broke,.

The DFP would be very, very nice however :(.

I shouldn't include the cost of PS2, which is HKD 3000 (as I bought it long ago)

GT4 HKD 550
GT Force Pro HKD 1380
Planning to buy a 'racing seat' HKD 3500

How about another
HKD 180 for GT4P and
HKD 130 for the 'The Playstaion' magazine that comes with the GT4 Preview Demo

...and the risk of losing another girlfriend :)

bah, screw the girlfriends, if they can't deal with your hobbies they are not good enough :P

you gotta let the broad know it's your way or the highway. ;-)

In China:

Chipped PS2 - On permanent loan.
GT4 Japanese Version - 10 RMB or about $1.25 / 1 Euro on almost any street corner.

That's it. $1.25. Not a bad deal.

BEFORE ANY SCREAMING STARTS:

In China most games are pirated and available days before they are ever released anywhere in te world. They normally sell for 10 RMB in a slip cover with no manual. Most people just buy the games like that - and unfortunately support the pirate market. Sadly, sometimes it is impossible to find legit copies of games or DVDs at all. If they had a well stocked EB here, I would be going.

I bought the 10 RMB version because I did not want to wait, but will be buying the legit US or UK version when available. If they offer a delux or limited edition version, I will certainly spring for it. I want the interface in English after all, and a manual would be nice.

More importantly, I don't believe in piracy. If people don't pay for their products, why should PD and others go through all of the effort and expense of making them. Many video game pubishers have all but given up on the Chinese market and don't try very hard to sell their products here nor price them appropriately. Somebody working in McDonald's (in this city) earns about $0.60 US per hour. To expect them to pay $49.99 for a copy of GT4 is totally unrealistic - that's two weeks of work. It's a shame, because as long as people have no choice, and prices for the real thing are high, piracy will not go away.

Okay I don't know why I brought that up.

On the flipside:

I have not been ale to find a DFP. And getting a Gameracer would probably be near impossible. You win some you lose some.

You can nearly halve the cost of GT4 if you go and purchase Richard Burns Rally aswell. ;)

That game/simulation is as/more worthy of that hardware than GT4.

Brilliant handling. Beats GT4's pseudo-rally into the ground.

Truth.

PStwo-$150
DS2 controller-FREE(well added in with PStwo price)
GT4=50(waitin for NTSC release, because i decied to wait like a good little boy)
FINAL COST=54.xx becuase the GT4 is 54.xx(HATE CA TAX), unless you guys are saying that the PS2 and DFP is GT4.

Mine will cost me £29.99 when it finally arrives... although I did go halves with someone for GT4:P and that cost us 20... so add 10 onto that... and you get full normal retail price.

Altho I'm thinking I could probs do with another controller as my 2nd player is still a DFI from PS1!! (But a sexy clear blue one!!)

Same here.

I brought a PS2 just for GT3, which was a little disappointing. It was not the "Drive of my life". I then brought GTP, and a couple of months later got my DFP. I got so far on GTP and then brought GTC to help tide me over until GT4's release. I brought my first none GT game for PS2 last week. However I can't really get into San Andreas, as I'm trying for all golds on GTP.

I would really like one of those proper gaming seats, but I don't really have the room and my mates would think I'm ever sader than I already am :O

No girlfriend at the moment. But knowing my luck, I'll get one just before GT4's release, and end up having to spend time with her instead of playing GT4.

Cheers, Jamie

What's the cost of blank dual layer discs in China?

PS2: $150
DFP: $150
GT4: $50
BRD Race Frame Pro w/Seat: $985

Future Frex Upgrades totaling: $1200

Expected Total Cost: $2535.00 (+/-)

I must be going crazy! LOL!

@j8mie Hate to nit-pick but it's not 'brought'...but 'bought'...! ;-)

Playstation 2 175 bucks (after taxes and extended warrenty)
Gran Turismo 4 54 bucks (when it comes out)
Newest logitech wheel 158 bucks
This wheel stand http://www.capitoldiecast.com/WSExclusiveOffer.htm

Anyone hear anything good about this stand? I just ordered one.

I know it isn't a full cockpit. I'd love to build one but I,
A, don't have access to a full set of tools and
B, have a girlfriend that I live with that would FLIP at the monster I would have created!
She actually has no problems with my videogame habits, heck, she'll play sometimes. But it's a little different when you think about putting something the size of a cockpit in a small apt livingroom. However, we've both agree'd that when we get our house we'll both be able to indulge our habits. Cockpit for game, third garage bay for my weekend warrior car, and "themes" in the rooms. Can you say Star Wars Tatooine? Sand covering the floor, paintings on the wall to continue the landscape where the real stuff has to end (confines of room) and more.
Yeah, I'm a loser. lmao.
In return I promised she gets to have a horse.
It's all good. What she doesn't seem to know is that I'm not against having the horse. LMAO. She's using all my stuff against me so I'll "LET" her have a horse and the entire time I want one too! hehehe

Anyway, yeah, back to topic. This game is costly..........ummmm...end rant. lol

In China most games are pirated and available days before they are ever released anywhere in te world.

The same happens here in Brazil... you can find a pressed DVD anywhere for $5 to $10... I also don't support piracy, my PS2 does not have anykind of chip (I only have DVD Region X for video purposes, once the PS2 is Region 1 and DVDs in Brazil are Region 4).

This is a catch-22 for me... PS2 is not sold in Brazil by Sony, they do not support PS2 here, so all PS2 sold here are imported, mostly from US. Sony says they won't release it here because of the piracy, where it costs at most $10 for a game, whereas the original ones (imported, so far) cost around $90 to $100 (all of this converting local currency to dollar). I think there's only so much piracy here just because Sony won't release PS2 officialy here, and we all have either to import games at a high price or buy the cheap ones...

As for me, since I bought my PS2, I only have GT3, MGS2, GTA:SA, and FFX and have enjoyed every single minute of all of them!

Can't wait for my GT4... :D

ps: I was at a store last night and they had an Japanese PSP to sell... the price? $740,00, with NO games... :(

My gt4 is going to cost about:

1: GT4 = $25 (for me ;))
2: DFP = $45 (for me ;))
3: Frex Shift+ = $80
4: Cockpit materials = 30$

Not telling u why the GT4 and DFP are so cheap for me :sly:

forget teh racing seat: = $160

welshgtlover .....

(hi.. im new)

anyway, you should check out Lik-Sang or Next-gen.co.uk

I picked up the Japanese version with that thick handbook (did you get that with the chinese version?) for £50, came four days after it was released in Japan.

well worth checking out these sites , if you didnt know them already.

I have a Japanese PS2, so no cost there, but thinking of picking up a wheel...

I never had one before, so a few questions.. does the GT4 wheel (logitech2 or what ever its called) fit between the legs or does it fit on a small surface or what?

last time I used a wheel was for GT1... lol, all those years ago, so im sure they have changed sumwhat.

cheers...

:)

cheers :)

I do love GT, and the fact that GT4 has gone back to the old days of GT1.. imo, thats fantastic.

I have posted a question, but its being moderated at the mo, so will check back monday to see if anyone knows anything.

cheers ears

Wow! that's alot of money! I would rather get GT4 for the PS2 without the DFP and use the spare money to get a PSP with GT4. Then I can play it anywhere. :)

My new widescreen TV came today :D - £800

Couple photos of Prologue running on it:

I wish I had a widescreen TV .. But sadly, I don't see one coming until a few years from now .. college isn't the greatest on cash reserves :-\.
