Ive seen a few things mention that the FT-86 is a lot like the classic AE86 and that Toyota was using that as their inspiration. Is that true?

If it is or not the similarities are easy to spot, both are very easy to drift and hard to tune for proper racing. Is the FT-86 really just a modernized version of the Trueno?

When I won the FT-86 I fell it love, it's one of the first great drifting cars you can win in the game, then I won the FT-86, metallic green, carbon hood, red rims, that just screams "Drift Me!"

Also don't suppose anyone knows a good drifting set up for any of the two cars? Whichever is best for drifting.

Not found a perfect setup for mine yet, and don't want to share a half done one. I'll have a play with it later and see if I can finalize it.

In answer to your first question, yes, Toyota have stated that the FT-86 is the spiritual successor to the AE-86 as a small, lightweight (realitively) front-engined, RWD coupe.

FT-86 was a concept car that Toyota used to bring back the RWD scene and was also targeted for young drivers.

It's not a concept, it goes on sale this year. I know this because I know someone who has already done a deal to get hold of one to be built into a drift car for the 2012 season. ;)

Really? awesome!

It's funny, the FT86 was the single car I was most excited about driving in GT5, and I've hardly run either of mine at all :(

I had a go drifting one stock and didn't like the feel of it..I should go back to it and spend some more time on it.

There's a very good chance I'll own a real FT86 somewhere down the line...tentative plans after buying my Miata this spring will be to get an S2000 when I can afford to...seeing as they're sadly out of production, though, I may be in the mood to buy my first new car and could easily be persuaded to go in on an FT86 when the time comes.

Agreed, I'm not a fan of mine at the moment, BUT this could be down to the fact that a full production version of the FT86 doesn't actually exist yet, Toyota are still finalising settings with road and track tests, so I'm not putting too much faith in the real life handling being anything like that in the game. :)

Do it! S2000 has a revvy N/A 2.0 litre engine with no torque, and not many drift parts available off the shelf. The FT-86 has a 2-0 litre engine, but has turbo-torque and, without a doubt, will be a tuners dream. :)

Well the S2000 wasn't planned to be a drift car, just as the Miata (obviously!) wouldn't be either. I'd actually like to snag an old RX7 or 240SX somewhere in between to get into drifting, maybe even a built drift car that needs a bit of work...All through college I was hellbent on getting into drifting, but now that the time comes I can actually afford a fun car for myself, I'm thinking the Miata will open more motorsports doors for me. I've already been invited to autocross not too far from where I'm living, and we've got a race track in the vicinity. Then down the line I could even go spec miata with it if I decided to.

Taking it one step at a time I guess :)

S13 or S14 will be cheaper than a Miata in the long run as tuning parts (such as diffs) are more readily available ;)

Yeah but as much as I love silvias, I'll just get beaten by Miatas at every AutoX :P

And really if I had an S13 or 14 I'd have to make it a drift car, and this needs to also be a daily :(
