Corner too hard at only 40mph in Renault's new budget car and this is what could happen. These shocking pictures are of the forthcoming Logan, and reveal how the saloon flips over. What's more, the A-pillar on the driver's side caved in! The incident occurred during a handling test carried out by Europe's biggest automobile club, ADAC of Germany.

A number of medium-sized family cars were assessed, but only the Logan ended up on its roof during "a sudden avoidance manoeuvre". Testers initially blamed the newcomer's lack of stability control technology, but an ADAC spokesman explained: "Even models without ESP haven't rolled before in this assessment - the worst they normally do is slide." The collapse of the A-pillar was a cause of greater concern for the group, though. "In a more serious situation, occupants' chances of survival would be reduced," the spokesman added.

In issue 855, Auto Express revealed how the Logan - to be sold under the Dacia brand in Britain - gained only a three-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests, plus one star for pedestrian protection. The Logan is due here in 2007. A Renault UK spokesman dismissed the findings, saying: "This was a one-off. The car had already passed the ADAC test twice, but on the third run it got a puncture and the wrong tyre was fitted."

Wow. If they're going to sell the car here in 2007, Renault have some very serious issues to sort out.

They could try to do what MB first did when Robert Collin was the first journalist to flip the A-class. Blame the driver.

At least being cheap, it leaves a lot of money for a funeral.

The reason why is already stated.

that driver looks freaky :scared:

He's all like 'If I tilt my head it's like the car isn't tipping over lawlz' and stuff.

Why does that front grille screame Proton to me.

And Renault Logan? Who thought up that name?

The Logan is Renault's bid to get into the people's car game. It's Korean prices for a European made car. It's supposed to be really cheap when they release it...

Sucks that, they should have put cheaper tires on it. :p

I stared at the driver for half a minute, he looked like he knew what was going to happen and was prepared for it! C-r-e-e-p-y...

Nah - if he was expecting it, he'd be steering the other way to help prevent the roll.

I thought the driver was a dummy at first. Scary.

Does anyone else find it odd that they're performing a test like this and the driver's not even wearing a helmet?

Now, the roll could be tire-induced, but the A-pillar damage is alarming. Things like this are why French cars aren't sold on the US market, by the way.

OK, it's understandable that the car flipped over because of a tyre puncture, but the A-pillar shouldn't cave in! 👎

Let me reiterate... it's a CHEAP car. Sort of a budget special. I doubt safety was their number one concern when they designed it. It's probably on the list somewhere between plastic door cards and hubcaps... maybe around number 65 on the list.

But no way am I getting in one...

Renault's lead the way in Europe for crash tests. Often scoring 5 stars in the Euro NCAP tests.

And that driver looks suprisingly calm!

I also thought the driver was a crash test dummy! Its the wierdo glazed-over eyes and totally passive expression... Very plasticky looking face generally... They must model the dummies off of that guy. What a legend. :sly:

But French cars are generally pretty good now - Peugots are very smart IMO. I just wouldn't buy a European car cause they just cost heaps more to fix/service etc than locally made cars like Fords/Holdens/Mitsubishis/Toyotas...
