Ok.....maybe not one for the americans, but I think it looks really cool! (like a bashed in Astra) :) . This is the only picture I have of it now (its in the current Auto Express).....this is what the VXR verison will look like with the body kit and way to large alloys! They have gotten rid of the high mounted back lights (which was one of the things I liked about the corsa with its tinted carbon fibre look) in favour of astra style lights.....the whole car is new including the interior and looks to really start competing with the likes of VW small cars....

I have the current Corsa Sxi and I think Vauxhall (Opel) has been going in a good direction updating their entire range. Despite what people tend to say about Vauxhall's  Im sure all you owners, like me, know that they are good motors.....they have like german and american (GM) parts and have quite good build quality.....

What do you think about it?.......Its looks pumped on steroids :sly: and quite chunky......

Robin :D

Yeah, I read the article and it seems to be based more on the Astra range of engines with some new technology......the lowest being offered I think is now a 1.6 because it looks alot larger than the old one......however sometimes lots of specs change before cars get released.......I keep this thread posted :)

I think it looks like a clone of the Made for the US market micro from Suzuki passing as a chevy

Are you talking about the Aveo? Isn't it based on a korean car?

I think he means the Daewoo Matiz which has now been rebranded as a chevy....

oh and to sniffs, I think the new Corsa doesnt look anything like a Daewoo Matiz clone!!! :yuck:

It just looks like a squished astra. At least it doesn't look so...girly anymore.

I think 1.6 for a base engine will be a laugh. They have to go down to 1.2 at least.

it also looks like someone put a Vitz/Yaris/Echo in a vise and squished it.

British ricers will be dribbling over all the hideous possibilities that a new Corsa brings.

This car is quite nice - but from the rear i'm not sure of it, i dont particularly like vauxhall / opel too much just dont think they are mechanically that good!

heres a few facts aswell;

The three-door body scooped here will spawn two sporty derivatives â an SRi powered by a new 140bhp 1.8-litre engine and a VXR with a 180bhp turbocharged 1.6. Other petrol engines will include a 60bhp 1.0, 80bhp 1.2, 90bhp 1.4 and 105bhp 1.6, while the two diesels on offer will be 1.3-litre Fiat JTD direct-injection units with 75bhp or 90bhp.

The new Corsa is based on an all-new platform shared with the next Fiat Punto. Bigger all-round than todays Corsa, it still features conventional strut/torsion beam suspension, although the design is more sophisticated than that of todays car.

This new model looks almost like the new punto i'll post a coparison picture of the two! - (the points of comparison - look at where the wing mirror is situated the whole housing is identical - the shape of the wing and roof elevation - door shape) im sure you can see what im saying.

I'd like to know the connection between the two companies does GM own both F.I.A.T. and Vauxhall/Opel?

oh and i'd just like to add F.I.A.T stands for (Fix It Again Tony) because they are piles of crap - just take them to the yard please !

I don't think there us a connection but alot of manufacturers are collaborating on small cars designs.
e.g.
Citroen C1, Toyota Ayargo (sp?), Peugeot 107.

The Punto isn't a bad car, though the bravo was really badly made. Just ask 911_Carrera :indiff:

FIAT owns FIAT last time i checked. GM does own Vauxhall/Opel though.

Its not unusual for manufactures to share development on chassis which they then go onto produce their own versions which compete directly with their 'siblings'

In the late 80's FIAT's Chroma, Lancia's Thema, Alfa's 164 (all owned by FIAT) and SAAB's 9000 all shared the same chassis.

I agree with the bravo is a bad car - they have weak clutches, gearbox's - the punto i have seen so many broken down punto's not old ones mostly 03 - 04 - 05 yes even 05 - the problems? Blown head gaskets , imagine buying a brand new car with a few thousand miles on it and the head gasket goes, that is poor - the older ones were bad for it too but not as bad as the new ones - two of my mates has had them and one a bravo - both punto's head gaskets one was an N reg 1.1 48k miles, head gasket went plus beforehand was pumping oil into the air induction box, the other a 1.2 - 51 registration - guess what happened head gasket, not to mention it needed a new exhaust after 2 yrs old.

Thanks, i thought i was losing it, so many takovers in the car industry thought that was a strange one!

Heh. closest American got to FIAT after their pullout in 83 (I have the manual for a 83 Strada [american market name] as a collectors peice), was when the nut job that yanked the late John Z DeLorian's underpowered flop over here hauled over the Yugo...which, I was told, was an easytern Europe market version of some of Fiat's models.

YOU can "take them to the Yard", Barryl85...in the states, anything that isn't labeled BMW, benz, or from Volkswagen AG from continental europe is a collectors peice. things like the old imports from Europe, even the junk, now have "antique" plates on them, and would be getting a wash
and polish for a car show, plenty of garage time, and rarely driven.

in otherwords, especially in my area, fiat's are as rare as hen's teeth. I saw a gorgeous 60's ragtop go through the Maccys drive in while I was working there. antique plates and all.

you know what I've seen around here in the way of European labels?
one old XJ being used as a Daily Driver
a five series being driven by one of our richer doctors
several 70's or 80's 3 series for sale
a single 190d (presumed) that cant move
a single SL ragtop

now...you find something THAT rare around here from continental Europe, tell me. I saw an EDSEL before I ever saw my first European Automobile.

The Chevrolet Aveo is based heavily on the Daewoo Kalos.
