Sorry for quiting without warning, but I really had enough. I wasn't going to participate in this event in the end anyway because I will be busy this weekend, but some issues cropped up that I think I should mention as they really peeved me off tonight.

1. It was shocking tonight how little people used their mirrors. There were many instances where I was on the inside or outside of a corner and ended up being ran into when it could have been avoided if the other driver had been paying attention. I don't think I was being particularly aggressive tonight like I normally am, at least most of the incidents were avoidable in my opinion. One in particular was a very clear move up the inside into the hairpin, it wasn't a fast move and I was alongside for a good second or so - enough I thought to make it absolutely clear I was there. I even braked earlier and gave room for the other driver to even cut me up a little, but nope, still managed to slam into me. 👎

2. What really annoyed me tonight was the lack of consideration with the PSN text chat. This can't be just me that gets very distracted with all the flashing messages on the top of my screen. I can put up with the odd one, just like with PSN signing in/out. However, in that last race I managed, it was rediculous. If you're going to have full blown conversations, please don't do it in the middle of races. If I was taking part, this would definitely put me off.

Ardius I'm sorry if it was me who stand in your way at any point...one of my main concerns tonight, after a long abscence from the game was not to disturb faster drivers...but most of the time i was struggling to keep the car on the track:scared:

So I'm sorry if I disturbed your racing, but you knew it was a pratice session in a game that most of us don't play anymore I don't think I hit you but if I did it was completly unintencional:tup:

Ardius, I am very sorry that you feel that way and for my part I fully accept blame for the Chat use during the race, I didn't realize the consequences, was totally focused in the discussion I was having with Shaggy about F1CE lobby settings and didn't even remember all you guys racing would see what we were writing. When I noticed your post there I still tried to write a "sorry Ardius will stop now" but when I posted it you were already off the chat and PSN altogether.

About agressiveness in the races, since you don't mention who you refer to, I can only hope it wasn't me also. I don't have any complaint from tonight's racing and from my POV I don't think also that anyone can have complaints about me, any litle contact that may have happened was not intentional and surely without consequences.

About you taking part, I understand whatever your decision may be. However, I'd just like to point out that the Event has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday (same hour), so maybe you can make it after all.

To all other participants in the GT5P test tonight, I want to thank you (Bullie, arvore, Shaggy, frawe, new soul) it was useful and I have a very clear icture in my mind now about "how to deal" with the moronic GT5P online system. Depending on the final number of players, I will split them in two or three groups. All in the same chat window, but all racing their different race. Then, a final with the tpo 2 or top 3 of the first races will define who wins the first "leg" of the competition. Stay tuned, more info will be posted in the coming days.

Thats ok, I was just getting a little frustrated last night. I totally understand and I'm not particularly angry at anyone.

Ok, no problem. :)
Not sure I really like that text chat still though - but I don't like voice chat either for the same reasons .

For the record, it wasn't you Hun. It was just the odd person and I can understand if they were still getting used to GT5P, I did think that at the time. It just got very frustrating to be ending up in contact no matter how careful I was.
The few contacts I had with you were entirely my fault when I hadn't practiced with the Viper brakes and was braking far too early for corners.

About you taking part, I understand whatever your decision may be. However, I'd just like to point out that the Event has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday (same hour), so maybe you can make it after all.

I'm busy over the whole weekend, so its not possible unfortunately.

Ok, let's consider this deal closed then, still you'll be missed in the Event. And I must say your Viper seems to have enjoyed getting rid of some dust ;)

Moving on to the continuation of practise runs for the main event, I am very sad to say that I won't most probably be able to play tonight.

So, and considering that yesterday we ended up never leaving GT5P, it would be good if tonight some SHIFT practise could be done.

I am very worried with Shift's stupid countdown playing a major part in us losing loads of time during the event (and time is precious, or else we will get tired long before we get to the last race).

So, my suggestion is this.

1 - Everyone in the XMB Chat
2 - Everyone in each other's friends list
3 - Everyone gets SHIFT up and running
4 - Everyone writes "ready" in the chat
5 - Host opens the lobby
6 - Host announces that the invites will be sent out
7 - Host sends ALL the invites at the same time
8 - Everyone accepts them immediately
9 Race starts ... fewww it isn't that hard, is it?

I already asked "arvore" to assume hosting duties tonight in my absence (since he is familiar with SHIFT Online) and if when I get home I can stiull join I will.

The purpose of this test, from you guys point of view, may be to practise SHIFT's physics. For me, what really matters is the practise of smooth lobby opening/ invite sending/ race starting :D so please do me that favour :)

As I've already said to Arvore, I'm in for tonight's practice in Shift.

I do not want to be a pessimist but I feel I have to say this: Although in theory this pentathlon thing is quite interesting I'm afraid it will be condemned to fail due to the "special" conditions under which the online races on GT5:P is raced. I think it'll be virtually impossible to get everyone on the track at the same time do to the stupidest thing online called "player matching"...

Private lobbies in GT5 is a MUST!

Sergio, I have a plan on how to deal with GT5P. Let's suppose we are 12 players effectively showing up to race the pentathlon next sunday, all taking part in the GT5P leg of it.

We all get into the XMB chat. I will divide all players in 3 groups of 4 players each (I guess more is risky). Group A, Group B and Group C. I will enter Group C

I do the countdown for group A and there they go. If they don't ALL enter the race, they quit (by quitting PSN in the XMB, if anyone has doubts on this please ask and it will be explained. Takes 30 seconds to be ready to match again) and try again.

Same with Group B, Same with Group C (I will only start Group C's race after groups A and B got their races successfully under way)

Then, we start the second race. This time (I still basing all this in the assumption we get 12 racers, if a different number this all needs readjustment) we split in 4 groups with 3 players each. Group A will be composed by the 4th placed guys in the first races. Group B by the third placed guys in the first races, Group C by the second placed guys and finally Group D by the winners of the first races.

Final classification will be:
1st - winner of second race Group D
...
12th - 3rd place in second race Group A

All in all, each racer will do 2 GT5P races. And that is unavoidable because as we saw last night, getting more than 5 or 6 guys in the same race is almost impossible and we have no time to keep trying that out until we - unlikely - succeed.

Once again, if you guys know how to do things and are READY for it, meaning:
- car already picked and properly tuned to your liking;
- no last minute "waits" for whatever reason;
- and some practise on how to quit a GT5P online race and get back to PSN, the chat, and to the state of readyness to start another matching attempt

This should be no real problem.

Thanks for the heads up on my profile Hun! After inspecting all the relevant info, I think Id like to join the fun... I will be VERY rusty since Ive only been playing FPS at the moment, but that wont dampen the fun! :) I own GT5:P, Shift and SCC.... my copy of F1CE is busted :( so I cant use that one anymore, a pity really and V8 Superstars I dont own. So I can participate in 3 of the 5 games! Sign me up and I'll try to be at the practice sessions... I will also add you to my PSN list! 👍

That's great, Blitz! 👍 Seems I was wrong with the last line of this post then!

arvore, I didn't find 700 PP tunes, but lots of 650 PP Suzuka tunes with a litle more power/a litle less weight ... they should work:

Check this:

And

Blitz187 and NLxAROSA, Dutch tuners FTW :D

(Pity none of them enters the Pentathlon :indiff: )

PS - Guys, we have a GT5P famous tuner taking part, if you want advice on how to get the better out of your crappy cars I suggest you harrass him! :D

I guess the obvious question, before we talk about tuning, is which car are you using, Blitz? :D

No problem ;) If anyone needs help, feel free to ask! 👍

I'm going to do some testing :D As I said before I havent been on track for a while now, so my car choice is unclear at the moment... but I will share the info when it becomes availabe and of course any setup I manage to make along the way 👍

Just an idea on the text chat. Why not leave the chat room before the start and enter on the finish. For those it annoys.
And sorry to be a pain in the ass but I should be ok with racing sunday. Sleep is for old people anyway.
Do we have a track / car line up yet so I can practice. As I have played F1 for 3 years, GT5 I can't even remember SCC I've only had for 3 weeks and I'm struggling on it.
GT5p Suzuka 700 PP (Any car)?
SCC SPA car?
SHIFT Green Hell car?
F1?
Also I have very little saved data for F1 or SCC (as I'm crap on that) as I didn't copy them when I got my 2nd PS3 does it matter?
(I will stop asking questions now)

Great to regain your presence! :)

I'll answer your questions inside the quoted text.

Just an idea on the text chat. Why not leave the chat room before the start and enter on the finish. For those it annoys.
- Using the text chat while a race is happening will not be allowed. All people not racing should either use the PM system or anyother way but NOT the chat

Do we have a track / car line up yet so I can practice. As I have played F1 for 3 years, GT5 I can't even remember SCC I've only had for 3 weeks and I'm struggling on it.
- Tracks are chosen. Suzuka, Nordschleife, Spa, Portimão, Interlagos. As for cars, see below

GT5p Suzuka 700 PP (Any car)?
YES

SCC SPA car?
TBA, I will think about it, reach a decision and publish it friday at the latest. Most probably it will be a race car. I accept suggestions btw, but the decision is mine and mine alone, there'll be no polls or votes on this :D

SHIFT Green Hell car?
TBA (same as SCC. Most probably a "entry car" in this one, Tier 1 or 2 ...)

F1?
From what I understand, all cars are equal in online mode, so you can pick what you like

Also I have very little saved data for F1 or SCC (as I'm crap on that) as I didn't copy them when I got my 2nd PS3 does it matter?

- It doesn't matter. Setups won't be allowed in SCC and all cars/tracks are unlocked for online mode. In F1:CE, the only time I played it - with Shaggy Alonso - all was ok and I didn't even start a offline career or done a single offline lap

(I will stop asking questions now)
please, ask away, as long as I can answer I will.

Thanks for your answers. I best get some practice in. (Where's arvore when I need him)
Looking forward to them all. Scc should be fun I've only 3 cars in my garage but drove others in the tutorials. Hope it's the 430scuda or fxx the only ones I could do a clean lap in. lol
I'll just try and stay out of every ones way apart from on shift, Think thats the only one I'll be competitive in.
It's tricky going from one game to another but I like a challenge.

ok i will give this a shot if that's ok ?

I have:
NFS SHIFT
SCC
GRANTURISMO PROLOGUE

I race with a g25 and all assists off on all games.

My psn name is THE--HOG.

Are we allowed to use the racing line in this event as i dont know SCC that well same with GT ?

I think things went really smooth not really great issues in getting everyone in the lobby after they were ready and mine main concern were the frequent Disconnections that usually occur during long races like this one( 2 laps around the green hell in slow cars=about 16 minutes of race) but aside one suffered by Bullie later in the evening no really great problems in this departement either-of course most of the time we were only 4 ,only 5 for one brief race, after TL_Bjorn joined us,but never the less...👍

And of course,in the racing departement,it was another fun night driving with friends.:)

Hmmmm.... looks like the golden cars at Suzi 700PP are the Clio and Cali.... two cars I dont like :( Im going to give the GTR a go too and maybe the NSX-R... 111R seems to be a good choice as well... This is going to be a difficult choice.

Hi THE HOG and welcome! Didn't you have F1:CE also?

EDIT: Blitz, if you like the 111R/Tuned, it's a fun car and despite poor speed, corners like no other. I am a litle faster with the Clio but the Lotus will be my weapon of choice here. Also, be sure to load up SHIFT before the event, if you don't use it for a long time you will have a BIG download to make first. Check also SCC and F1:CE.

(by "litle faster" I mean a couple of tenths per lap, not more)

EDIT2 : arvore, thanks for carrying out the test last night, I only joined you guys at the end but the relaxed athmosphere was a sign of smooth procedures. That's good news. About the racing you clearly showed your speed in this, I'm glad I was able to keep close in the last race we did but in reality I guess you and the Shift guys (there are a few racing the Pentathlon) will have your own race while us others will stay at the back trying to keep the grass proper

I was refering this yesterday to Arvore. I really don't understand this. From all the Ferraris present in the game (obviously apart the F1), the F430 should be the fastest in a circuit.

Hey Blitz:tup:

I know the cars you mentioned are probably the best and faster for the event, but I always liked the EvoIX,and since I am more worried with consistency then speed I was wondering if you can point me in the direction of a good tune for this car to race in Suzuka 700p?

Thanks.

I agree, I dont understand why the California is SSSSOOOOO good.. it also feels at home in other PP levels, but I just refuse to drive a car that was made for Ken & Barbie ;)

I was just mentioning what the "golden" cars are... in this case though they are two cars I dont really like to drive... the Evo is a good choice too though, Im not to sure how it perfoms in 700PP spec but I'll test that one tonight as well. I take it you mean the tuned version of the Evo IX right?

You guys are getting all "pros"; that's worrying ...

Anyway, back to business, in the continuous hard work that setting this up means ;)

EVENT ANNOUCEMENTS

1. The SHIFT race will be done with this car:

LOTUS_ELISE_111R.jpg

The Lotus Elise 111R, so practise at will with it

2.Tonight's practise session will feature THIS:

550_SUPERSTARS10_PS3.jpg

If it's started by me it will be around 9.30 GMT (that's 10.30 in PT, UK and IE, 11.30 in most of Europe and I think around 5.30 in the East of the USA)

I know it is a bit late for most europeans, but I can't sooner. If anyone is willing and able to start the practise session sooner, please do it, I'll join when I can.

But we won't practise V8 much, maybe just a couple of races, because ...

3. ...Tonight's practise will also - time allowing - be about THIS:

30749_SCC_Boxart.jpg

I am a litle hard-pressed - and still very undecided - on what car to pick for the SCC race at Spa.

And, with all respect to SCC regulars like Jeff, arvore, Bullie, new soul (just to name the ones that have been taking part in these last practise sessions), I'd like guys that are less or no experienced in SCC to help me out.

So, my plan is to host a SPA-SCC lobby (not before midnight my time, 1AM GMT, that's for sure) and do a few 2 lap races with several different cars - modern and classic, race and roadgoing - and get feedback from guys like adddictions, Shaggy, Blitz, HOG and any other non-SCC regulars.

So if you can join the SCC practise tonight, you will be very helpful for my decision on the SCC car!

My 2 cents mario would be that we definitely shouldn't pick too unstable a car. The reason I say this is because after practicing a few laps of the GT5P round yesterday and then firing up SCC at Spa in the F430 GT2 (I think that is the name) the first time I headed up Eau Rouge I crashed and it took me several laps to find my feet at all, the transition made me feel almost as if I was drink driving it was so extreme. And I do worry about about the first lap carnage this could create.

I did have all games but i traded them in, F1 was way to dark for my liking and did not feel right on my g25 the same deal with ssv8.

I will try and make the practice tonight all tho i only have 3 cars in scc but i may be able to get a game save for it.

I will also need a game save for Gran Turismo as i am not playing all that again lol.

Are people that can't take part in the pentathlon allowed to participate in practice if there is room? :dopey:

Of course, you're always most welcome! Why can't you take part in the Pentathlon, btw? Get a game, borrow, steal if needed! :)

You don't need a game save in SCC, all cars/all tracks are online-available from the start! 👍

About GT5P, you do need a gamesave. I suggest you try this thread, maybe the links still work:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=104303

EDIT: Shaggy, I read you! Report for duty tonight ;) and we will try to find a car suitable for this event. Can't be too easy, but of course can't be too hard also.

And that my friends, I believe is the genius (or madness) behind this whole event. It's really a brilliant concept. I'm convinced the winner will not necessarily be the fastest (although he or she will certainly have to excel in at least 1-2 of the games to stand a chance). But I believe the top 5 will be those who aren't ultimately the quickest but the ones who can adapt quickly enough and hold it together in these games with their very different play systems and opposing physics and sensations.

My theory is, I'll never be able to compete against the top Prologue players who have hundreds of hours around Suzuka. I'm guessing I'll be at least 2-3 seconds a lap down. If I can keep it on the track. Nor will I stand a chance against those V8SS regulars as I have all of 3 hours in this game. :scared: This I'm sure will be my worst showing. I only have the NTSC version of F1:CE but I haven't touched it in a dog's age so I'm almost relieved I can't take part in that roundn. When I first bought Shift in September, I played it quite a bit. For the first 2-3 weeks. But I rapidly grew disenchanted with it's subpar physics and for the most part it sits idle. SCC is a game I play regularly and I'm not one of the fastest guys but on my day, I can hold my own. But as well all know, the game is very unforgiving and one wrong move can effectively end your race. So I'm going into this event to have fun, with no real expectations.

And Mario, you already KNOW which car you want in SCC. And it makes sense. Just do it. And I DON'T mean the Corvette. ;)

I wont be able to make the SCC practice, too late in the evening :( Got to work on Friday still... I think I'm going to spend some time tuning on GT5P (try to find the car I want and help out arvore) and if you have another practice tomorrow or something I will join the party.

Of course, you're always most welcome!

Great! We have a test race for our upcoming Finnish SSV8NC league today (already 13 players registered 👍), but if it ends before the Pentathlon practice starts, I'll join.

Why can't you take part in the Pentathlon, btw? Get a game, borrow, steal if needed! :)

Missing too many games! And even though this event is really interesting, my application to the "government" didn't go through to order two new games just for that :) Though I did order SCC this week. Of course a bit too late, so it's still on the way and I doubt it will not arrive in time. But maybe I'll be able to take part in coming Pentathlons :)
